Premier Pro is brightening my videos when producing subclips or when exporting. How can I adjust this?

I didn’t take any special steps but it did choose to send some of these brightened clips to Media Coder. ISt doesn’t always require that. Can I ignore that choice when the red exclamation point shows?

Your issue really is understanding color management ... and then exporting details.

Are the clips “brighter” than you expect, when displayed on a timeline, or only after export, when viewed in another player? What color space and dynamic range are the clips? Such as Rec.709, or HLG or PQ? Are you working with a sequence of the same color space as the clip?

    All that matters.

Next, for exporting, the particular preset chosen will make a huge difference in the file size produced. And is not dependent on the original file size. Only on the settings of the chosen preset.

So you need to chose something that is the correct codec for your needs, and the correct bitrate for eventual file size.

    Everyone's mileage always varies ...

    Hi @Steve Whiteford

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums! We are glad to see you here. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue. Please see, How do I write a bug report?

When you mention “brightened clips”, I wonder what footage you’re working with and if it’s VFR or filmed on mobile (iPhone, etc.) If you could try to include screenshots like when the red exclamation point shows up, if any error codes, and all other details from our bug report link, that would be incredibly helpful and appreciated.

Sorry for the frustration and hope we can help soon!

    Happy to help,
    Katie

Thanks. I was wondering if it might be because it was shot on Mobil Phone. I has brightened other mobile phone shoots. It’s also creating really big files. As I said it bypasses to media coder and takes a very long time to process. I’m uploading for auditions and the limit is 600 mb. One of my rojects came out in GB.  I couldn’t get it to replicate the media encoder with the red !.

Is there a setting to use when using mobile phone footage to sotp the brightening? I’ll attach some screenshots.
