Premiere freezes when a submenu is opened from the timeline clip right-click menu (Label to Time Interpolation). The submenu highlight sticks and the UI stops repainting.

Premiere Pro freezes completely whenever I open the Time Interpolation submenu from a clip’s Timeline context menu. The freeze happens immediately when I hover over/open Time Interpolation — I do not need to click Optical Flow for the freeze to occur.

I first noticed this in my existing project, but I tested it again in a completely new project with only one video clip, and the exact same issue occurs.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a new Premiere Pro project.
  2. Import a single video clip.
  3. Add the clip to the Timeline.
  4. Right-click the clip.
  5. Hover over/open Time Interpolation.
  6. Premiere immediately becomes unresponsive and needs to be force-quit.

I have also tested after disabling third-party extensions/plugins, but the issue still occurs.

System: Apple Silicon Mac, macOS 27.0, Premiere Pro 26.0.2.2.

I have attached a screen recording showing the issue. I can also provide an Activity Monitor sample taken while Premiere is frozen if needed.

      I am experiencing the exact same issue with Premiere freezing when accessing the Time Interpolation submenu. Has a fix been identified yet, or is there a known workaround I can try while waiting for an update?

      ​@calm_Whirl2789 Can we get some more details from you? This is still being investigated, as we were waiting on a Sample file to have engineers examine but had not received that yet. Depending if you are on Mac or PC, we might like to request a Sample (mac) or Dump file (PC) and can provide you instructions and a Dropbox upload link to get that to us, if you’d be willing. Let us know!

      To better troubleshoot, I’d ask you the same details below - 

      • Premiere Version: Find the exact version/build of Premiere you’re current using.
      • Operating System: Specify Windows or macOS, along with the version.
      • Mac Chip (Mac Only): Please let us know what M-series chip you have. If Intel please include GPU.
      • GPU and Driver (Windows only): Please let us know your video card and driver version. We recommend updating to the most recent version; for NVIDIA users, we strongly recommend the Studio version of the driver.
      • Media Files: video, images, etc. and what types (can check under Media Properties)
      • Media Storage: Are your Scratch Disks set to your Documents folder or the same as project, and is this the same as the Media drive?


      Also, if you could please let us know the following, this is also helpful to know:

      • Does it affect all projects or only some? What about new, empty projects?
      • Do you recall which Premiere this was last working in, and what might have changed? Any plugins, update to computer, etc.
      • When did the problem first begin?

      A short screen recording showing us exactly what is happening on your side along with the Sample/Dump would be very helpful.

      Hi Katie,

      Thank you for getting back to me. I’m happy to provide the requested details and a Sample file if that will help your engineers investigate the issue.

      Here are the details from my system:

      Premiere Pro: 26.5.1 (26.5.1.1)
      Operating System: macOS 27.0 (Build 26A428)
      Mac: MacBook Pro 18,1
      Chip: Apple Silicon
      RAM: 16 GB
      GPU: Apple integrated GPU using Metal

      Issue

      Premiere Pro 26.5.1 crashes consistently when I right-click, particularly when accessing the context menu.

      The important point is that this also happens in a completely new/empty project. It is not limited to a specific project, footage, timeline, or media file.

      I have tested the following:

      • Created a brand-new empty project — the crash still occurs.
      • Reset Premiere Pro preferences — no change.
      • Cleared/rebuilt the relevant Premiere settings/cache — no change.
      • Completely uninstalled and reinstalled Premiere Pro — no change.
      • Completely reset/reinstalled macOS — the issue still occurs.
      • Tested without relying on my existing project or media — the issue still occurs.

      Very important comparison

      I also installed and tested Premiere Pro Beta 27.0.0 on the exact same Mac and macOS installation.

      With Beta 27.0.0, the same right-click/context-menu action works normally and does not crash.

      So at the moment the behavior is:

      Premiere Pro 26.5.1 → Right-click → Crash
      Premiere Pro Beta 27.0.0 → Right-click → Works normally

      This makes me suspect there may be a version-specific regression or compatibility issue between Premiere Pro 26.5.1 and macOS 27.0, rather than an issue with my Mac hardware, project, or media.

      Crash information

      I have also collected the macOS crash report.

      The crash is reported as:

      Exception: EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT)
      Termination: Abort trap: 6
      Triggered by: Thread 0 / com.apple.main-thread

      I can provide the complete .ips crash report/Sample file if your engineering team would like to examine it.

      When it started

      The issue is reproducible with Premiere Pro 26.5.x on this system. I have also tested after a complete macOS reset and a fresh Premiere installation, so the issue persists on a clean setup.

      Media / Storage

      Since the crash also occurs in a completely empty project, the issue does not appear to depend on any particular media file or media storage location.

      I would be happy to provide:

      1. The complete macOS .ips crash report
      2. A screen recording showing the exact Right-click → crash behavior
      3. Any Sample file or diagnostic file you need
      4. Any additional logs or system information requested by the engineering team

      Please send me the instructions and Dropbox upload link for the Mac Sample file if you would like me to provide it.

      Thank you for investigating this. Since the issue is consistently reproducible in 26.5.1 but does not reproduce in Premiere Pro Beta 27.0.0 on the same machine, I hope the Sample/crash data can help the engineering team identify the underlying issue.
