Premiere Pro – Unable to add clips to timeline after trimming source
I'm experiencing a reproducible issue in Premiere Pro 26.3.2 on Windows, and I've confirmed the same behavior in 25.6.6.
Premiere initially works normally. I can open a clip in the Source Monitor and add it to the timeline. However, after trimming/setting In and Out points on a source clip, Premiere suddenly stops allowing me to add media to the timeline.
Symptoms:
- Cannot drag source clips into the timeline.
- Insert/Overwrite also stops working.
- Existing timeline clips can still be trimmed.
- Existing clips can still be moved using the keyboard.
- Keyframes can still be edited.
- Tracks are not locked.
- Source patching (V1/A1) remains active.
- General drag-and-drop/UI interaction still works.
- The problem occurs across different projects.
- Restarting Premiere restores normal operation, but the issue returns after working with/trimming source clips.
- The same behavior occurs in Premiere Pro 26.3.2 and 25.6.6.
So this appears to be a Source Monitor / source editing issue rather than a timeline lock, source-patching, or project-specific problem.
Has anyone encountered this behavior, or found what specifically causes it?
