Premiere Runs SLOWER With ProRes 422 proxies activated

Hello, people from Adobe, I'm only starting to learn video editing on Premiere Pro and applied to a course (a great one) to better understand the workings of proxies and make the editing flow a bit easier.

I'm mainly trying to edit 2k at 60 frames, and 4k at 60/30 frames, both MP4 recorded in OBS.

Once I play the 2k footage at full resolution, (without any proxies) it goes well,

and If I play the 4k footage it does ok, and gets faster when doing the 1/8 downsize in the small Playback resolution dropdown at the bottom of the Program preview display.

But I still wanted to try using proxies because when diving into a longer project, the number of unrendered footage, effects, and graphics applied add up, and can get heavier and harder on the computer. Besides 4k footage also takes a lot longer to render on the timeline.

So, I tried to use the ProRes 422 Low-resolution default proxy preset and also checked the blue toggle button and watermark. On the timeline, the small blue icon also shows as active, and the green checkmark on Adobe Encoder is there as well.

But when I play the video it's completely stuck and won't play well for more than 1 -5 sec.

Also tried to do my proxy ProRes, and Ingest presets with the recommended settings and nothing seemed to work.

BUT Once I tried to apply the H624 proxy format, it played ok once again, (still worse than the 1/8 playback downsize). However, using this format drastically changes the footage's colors and it's not the optimum choice.

My sequence settings are using Quicktime, and ProRes 422 as well, the same video aspect ratio, framerate, and color space as the imported footage.

Here are my PC Specs:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-10850K CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti

RAM: 96.0 GB

-Windows 11 - desktop - 64-bit system

-Using a 1 TB external driver to store most projects and footage.

Software:

-Adobe Premiere Pro 2024 - latest version

At this rate, I ran out of ideas to solve the problem, it would mean a lot if anyone could try to help me solve this puzzle that I've been into for this week...

If the problem is on the PC itself I'll understand but I have to know... Hoping it was some configuration I forgot to set up along the way or even a format problem inside OBS. (Perhaps)...

If anyone needs I'm here to provide print screens and information about the settings used in any configurations.

Thanks for the info you provided, @Irise Flow and Hello @Aiden Soave. @Irise Flow, it's been a while since you reported this bug, are you still having the problem? Please let us know.

It sure sounds odd that proxies are not working for you. Is there any more info you can provide? How do I write a bug report?

To troubleshoot, can you try a different codec for your proxies, like DNxHR or HD? Note: you may have to create a new ingest preset to do this. See this article: https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/ingest-proxy-workflow.html

I hope we can help you. Sorry for the frustration.

Thanks,
Kevin
