Re-linking media makes every clip in timeline the beginning of source video - AUGUST 2024

I had a timeline of three layers - linked canva file (Background), Descript file (Captions) and a pre-exported video as a picture in picture (As in middle with background canva file showing around the video and captions underneath.

Needed to relink the content (and also use "replace with clip - from bin" option.) - This used to work fine, but is now making every cut through the timeline start at the start of the media rather than the sections of media I had all lined up /edited for all layers.

I'm finding that there are pages online from last year showing about this issue and then being fixed through updates.... but maybe that bug is back in recent updates again - I have the most recent update - I also tried opening the beta version as one of the pages suggested - cuts are still reverting to the start of media on that timeline. Without a fix means having to redo full edits from scratch.

While this method hasnt worked, it does seem like a few people have been pulling their hair out over this issue in the comments section https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuHx7ttcRKY

Hi. Whenever it is frozen, this is what shows in the task manager Wait Chain

Doubled the RAM to 32GB but problem persists

The problem is like this one I found someone else had https://www.reddit.com/r/premiere/comments/15din75/premiere_pro_playback_freezes_after_minimizing/

Apologies, thought that was another post relating to other issue. Yes all mp4 files. Seems to maybe struggle with 4 layers and shoots RAM use up over 80% of the 16GB available, so minimising project for simple edits in Descript then going back to Premiere just sends it crashing

Hi. They are all MP4 files. I had edited a timeline, making edits where I would cut all layers to remove parts. The media was moved but I relinked them. Usually if I relink (Usually more just with a slightly updated Descript file - ie changed a word or small edits and re-exported from Decript), works and keeps all the cuts in same places so flows on. What it did to this timeline was every cut it now starts at the beginning of the media, so instead of a 2 minute clip, it repeats the beginning.

Hello Dianne,

What are the actual file types in use, for that Canva file, Descript file, and pre-exported video?

Did the start time(s) of the actual media in use, change?

Please do not double post.

If you have something to add to the original post, just continue in the same thread. Thanks!

I use timelines of three layers - linked canva file (Background), Descript file (Captions) and a pre-exported video as a picture in picture (As in middle with background canva file showing around the video and captions underneath).

If I minimise premiere to work on one of the elements, such as Descript (I make changes then export as a new file so not overriding one linked in premiere until I relink the new one - By Replacing footage)... then jump back to Premiere, it shows as below, and sits frozen, and only after closing and re-opening the project maybe 5-10 times does it come right to continue editing. The problem is before even relinking so its like Premiere does not like sharing computer resource with anything else?

At the times of this happenning there is no "missing" or "moved media", it just decides to not read media that was working before.
