Selecting a trim and nudging nudges the previously selected clip, not the trim.

CRITICAL BUG:

Select a clip
Select a trim point using cmd/ctrl + lasso tool
Nudge left or right

Expected result: TRIM moves left or right

Actual result: PREVIOUSLY SELECTED CLIP moves left or right

This happens every time on the latest Premiere on both Mac and PC, it even happens when clips are selected out of view leading to blind mistakes that are easy to miss in QA checks, creating flash frames and sync issues that might sneak into broadcast.

This has been happening across different Mac systems on various versions of Premiere 26, and I don’t recall it happening in Premiere 24. Is a fix imminent? It is a a big issue for those of us who have “trim forward/backward” and “nudge clip selection” mapped to the same key. Since those two functions depend on different things being selected in the timeline (trim points vs clips), it has never been an issue to have them mapped to the same keyboard shortcut (which is the default keyboard setup in Avid, though not in Premiere’s Avid keyboard setup).

I was able to recreate the issue with Premiere’s default keyboard setup as well. With that setup, you select a clip, then select an edit point (which unhighlights the previous clip), then press nudge selection on the keyboard, which re-highlights the previous clip and moves it, while the edit point is still selected. The issue seems to be the re-highlighting of a deselected clip, which never used to happen. Please fix asap and this is both non-inuitive and a clear bug. Current premiere version 26.5.2 Build 5 on MacOS Tahoe.

A few more questions to help us narrow things down:
1) have you tried upgrading to v26.5 to see if the issue still persists?
2) Sounds like it’s happening across all projects then so far, but if you open a new one with just two sample clips, do you still see that happening?

Thanks for stopping by the Premiere forums and providing some details about your trim issue happening. In order to better troubleshoot, we need to ask for a few more details like if Mac (and what macOS) or PC (whether Windows 11/10, plus what driver version & build), what version & build of Premiere are you using, how’s your media stored (NAS/External) with our bug report details.

Premiere Version: Find the exact version/build of Premiere you’re current using.
Operating System: Specify Windows or macOS, along with the version.
Mac Chip (Mac Only): Please let us know what M-series chip you have. If Intel please include GPU.
GPU and Driver (Windows only): Please let us know your video card and driver version. We recommend updating to the most recent version; for NVIDIA users, we strongly recommend the Studio version of the driver.
Media Files: video, images, etc. and what types (can check under Media Properties)
Media Storage: Are your Scratch Disks set to your Documents folder or the same as project, and is this the same as the Media drive?

Also, if you could please let us know the following, this is also helpful to know:

Does it affect all projects or only some? What about new, empty projects?
Do you recall which Premiere this was last working in, and what might have changed? Any plugins, update to computer, etc.
When did the problem first begin?

Premiere Version: 26.3.2
macOS Tahoe 26.5.2
M2 Max

All files are on the MacHD in this case, including scratch disk.
It affects all projects, video and stills, different video formats and frame rates.

I’m not sure when it was last working. I’m working on two projects right now where I’m cutting down long-form interviews, on two different computers, and this is majorly affecting my workflow.

@Editosaurus Thank you for that additional information as it helps the engineers further investigate from our report made, especially the version of Premiere, as ‘latest’ could have been v26.5. Our team was able to recreate this issue, and it appears that a temporary workaround is v25.6.6.
