Text-based editing not working

Trying to use text-based editing by loading a sequence into my Source panel so I can pick a choose sections from it in the text panel and insert them into the sequence I have loaded on my Program panel.

First I load my sequence into the Source panel, them I open it in the timeline (pancake mode editing) and then when I go to the Text panel to select the portion of text I want to insert into the sequence I loaded in the source panel, the system automatically closes the sequence I had loaded in my source panel.

    Hi @GT_CarmintaFilms

Thanks for reaching out. Are you trying to re-insert into the same sequence you are editing from? If so, that would explain the behavior. If not, we’ll need a bit more information to help investigate why text-based editing is closing your source sequence. Could you let us know:

    • The exact version of Premiere Pro you’re using

    • Your operating system and version

    • Whether this happens with all sequences or just certain ones

    • If it occurs only in pancake editing mode or also in a single timeline setup

    • Your workflow for loading sequences into the Source panel and Timeline

Please also see:  How do I Report A Problem?

Sorry for the frustration, I hope we can help you soon.

Hi Rach! I’m not trying to re-insert into the same sequence. This is happening with all of the sequences I try to used text-based editing with. It happens in both pancake editing and single timeline setups. What’s crazy is that even if I don’t open a source timeline, when I go into text-base editing mode, as soon as I select some text, the system will open the sequence I have in the source monitor but in my program monitor, so all of the sudden I see the same sequence in both my source and program panels.

I usually load sequences on my Source by dragging them from the bin into the source panel and to open the program one I double click on the sequence I want to work with on my timeline. Then, I go to the text panel and select text to get In/Out points and then I insert into my timeline.

I’m using Adobe Premiere 26.2.0 BETA on Sonoma 14.5.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi @GT_CarmintaFilms,

Thanks for the detailed steps — that really helps.  I wasn’t able to reproduce this behavior on my end based on the steps you provided.  To help us figure out what’s happening, could you share a quick screen recording showing the workflow? Seeing exactly what’s happening when you select text and the sequence pops into the Program panel would make it much easier to troubleshoot.

If possible, a small sample project that reproduces the issue would be super helpful as well.  Please also see:  How do I Report A Problem?  Appreciate you taking the time to provide these — it makes tracking this down much faster.
