Waveforms not generating fully

Seeing it multiple times this week in in premiere 25.3 25.4 and 26.0.1.  Importing a .2+ hour gopro video at 1080 resolution.  The audio is there, but it processes the audio and only shows me the first half of the waveform. I have deleted the peak files dozens of times, and it craps out after the long reopen/generate process, only to crap out with less than half the waveform available. The recent changes absolutely SUCK!!! I have to wait at least 5-10 minutes for the waveform to generate to become visible (unlike the old version where it would start showing you the parts of the waveform that had processed as as soon it is available

Also “Generate Audio Waveform” function has never done anything.. absolutely nothing hapens. “Render selection” or Render Audio sometimes kicks it into working but not lately This program is SO fucking maddening--without this visual ability to see where the songs of the band stop and start, it is insanely time consuming to chop up and edit video.

    Hi @chaunceyc,

Thanks for posting — that definitely sounds frustrating, especially if you’re waiting several minutes only to see the waveform stop halfway through.

To help narrow this down, could you share:

    • The exact GoPro codec (H.264 or H.265?)

    • Whether the clip is variable frame rate

    • Your OS version and full Premiere build number

    • Where your Media Cache is located and whether it’s on a fast local drive

    • Whether this happens with all long clips or only certain ones

    You can also try:

    • Preferences > Media Cache → Delete all media cache files, then relaunch

    • Moving the Media Cache location to a fast internal SSD

    • Turning off “Automatically Generate Audio Waveforms,” then right-clicking the clip and choosing Generate Audio Waveform

    • Testing with a shorter clip from the same camera

If possible, a short screen recording showing the waveform stopping partway through after processing would be helpful or a sample file of the problematic GoPro for us to test with. Please also see  How do I Report A Problem?  Including your system specs and exact steps to reproduce will help the team investigate further.

I know this kind of delay can really slow things down — hopefully we can get to the bottom of it soon.

Has happened on multiple clips, usually long ones over 2 hours. I have my GoPro 13 set to the 30 fps, 1080p 8 bit in order to have it save in H.264 (compression not a separate setting anymore on the GoPro, only by choosing certain combinations instead of the old h.264 + HEVC option).

Premiere version 26.0.1 (also happens in 25.4,

I have turned off the automatically generate audio waveforms, but right clicking the clip doesn’t give me the option to generate audio waveform, but the Menu/Clip/”Generate Audio Waveform” does absolutely nothing any time I encounter this issue. The attached screenshot shows the half-rendered waveform. The green one is external audio from a Zoom recorder that I imported and aligned just to be able to see my wavforms for the later footage.
