Opt-out of the installation of Cinema 4D R21 when installing After Effects

Add a checkbox or something to allow users to opt-out of the installation of Cinema 4D R21 when installing After Effects.

I already have a valid perpetual license for Cinema 4D R19 Studio. R21 is pointless as it only allows me to use a trial license or purchase a license. The application is useless for those who already own a commercial license.

To make matters worse, I must uninstall it every time there is an update for After Effects. Quite frankly, I consider it bloatware. It useless and it wastes space on my hard drive.

I understand that there are people who don’t already own C4D who would find this useful which I why I think the ability to opt-out would make both sides happy.

I like C4D. I use Blender myself, but I have used C4D in the past. What ****** me off is not the lack of warning from adobe about any of these hidden software instaling itself wihthout my permition, that's not what an update is for, and it's not the fact that adobe leaves a mess after every single update. It's the fact that Adobe, as a company, pays people to act like monkeys on the forums, trowing **** at answers. I DO hope they pay them to act like this, otherwise please, you have your warning here adobe. Dodging the questions while praying for the almighty functionalities a program I will not use will have on my computer. What's next? I pay for Photoshop and get the entire Adobe packages JUST IN CASE I buy them 5 years later?

The 16 (now 17) comments here are not the only ones who are bothered by this feature.

The program costs almost an entire GB of space, and again only offers a trial run of the software.

I don't care if "many professionals" use it in conjunction with AE. I don't. I am also a professional and shouldn't have to be bothered to go in and uninstall this program over and over.

Stealth installations are bad. Stop doing bad things. I don't want Cinema, and I'm upset that I didn't notice it until 4 *months* after it had been installed.

Stop doing this.

I've been using C4D at a Studio I worked for and it was a brilliant Software. Seeing how Adobe is treating it now is just a shame cause it makes C4D look bad and pretty much malicious.

I randomly found it on my pc after installing AE to see how it runs on my new private pc. Never noticed a C4D install on my Mac at work until I searched for it and found a hidden stash of what felt like 5 different FULL versions of C4D each being a new update instead of replacing the old one. Even after the AE trial was uninstalled from my personal pc it keeps downloading C4D. It's like a curse!

I'm about do deinstall the whole creative cloud and cancel my private subscription to get this madness to stop it they can't give us a choice.

Again to be clear: I don't think C4D is bad and after reading into this I'm aware of the benifits AE is getting from it. I actually fully that. It's the way it is delivered and forced without giving the user a clear notice or choice. Since adobe moved to the subscription based pricing a lot of weird stuff has been happening and I struggle with finding good reasons to stay with their service...

Finding Cinema 4D installed on my computer without my knowledge or consent gave me a scare.

Thankfully I'd heard of the product before, but the fact it had suddenly appeared was concerning. There was certainly no way I was going to open it without being sure it was genuine.

Installing anything without consent is unacceptable, no matter how great the software is or how well-intentioned the motive.

If the Cinema 4D integration is so good, Adobe should talk about it up-front, selling the benefits and allowing customers to opt in, not sneaking it in round the back like some shady browser toolbar. To say it was explained in the EULA is like saying the plans were on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard'.

Furthermore, the response of 'Adobe Community Professionals' on this has been appalling – wilfully misunderstanding the concept of consent and why it's necessary. If that's reflective of Adobe's attitude in general it's not surprising something this misguided has happened.

What else are Adobe installing without my knowledge?

It's not a trial.

If anything, it would be amazing if Adobe came to an agreement with Maxon that allows for our Creative Cloud subscription to include Cinema 4D Broadcast or Cinema 4D Studio.

I would down-vote this if the User-Voice forum allowed for it.

Really, it's a simple common sense thing. I don't want any bloatware installed on my computer without me even knowing how did it get there. It took some googling to figure out what was going on. I'm not using Adobe Effects, I just installed it for a trial, but as it turns out I also installed something I'm not interested in or familiar with.

And what I think is an even bigger problem here is that Adobe don't even see it as a problem...

The "we know it's good for you" approach just gave me a scare. I installed some software on my machine and when I check it out, surprise, Maxon was there, among the last installed. Since not in my wildest dreams I imagined Adobe would install something without my consent, I immediately blamed the new software.
An hour later of searching for the wrong staff, I finally started searching for "who installed Maxon on my pc" and found the Adobe forum page https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects/prevent-maxon-cinema-4d-force-install/td-p/10695447?page=1
I agree with the comment below that mr. Warren Heaton is condescending in that discussion. By no stretch, one could easily consider the installation of Maxon abusive. Apparently, there are quite a few.
So, now that I know it's not malware / bitcoin miner / virus etc, I can DECIDE FOR MYSELF that I do not actually need Maxon and can uninstall it. Looking forward to uninstalling it again and again after the next Adobe updates...

It is a very cool idea to have C4D tightly integrated in AE however the way it is installed is completely wrong.
The functionality should either be completely integrated into AE without the 3rd party application being installed. Or there should be a clear prompt asking do I want C4D to be installed as an additional application.
The fact that the old version of this secretly installed C4D is just left on my system and a new one is installed on update is just sad case of bad software development or total disregard for customers you choose.

Just noticed C4D installed and thought someone had somehow been at my PC. Genuinely scared me to think a piece of software, legitimate or not, had just appeared on my computer without any intervention from myself. Having the option to install it is one thing, but deliberately forcing a piece of software without any real indication to the end-user that you're doing so just isn't right. General installer best-practices involve letting the user know what is being installed and when it's being installed. Is it really so much to ask for a "Hey, would you want to install C4D as well? It'll help you do some neat stuff!" like thanks, maybe I do, and I appreciate you asking me Adobe.
