Opt-out of the installation of Cinema 4D R21 when installing After Effects

Add a checkbox or something to allow users to opt-out of the installation of Cinema 4D R21 when installing After Effects.

I already have a valid perpetual license for Cinema 4D R19 Studio. R21 is pointless as it only allows me to use a trial license or purchase a license. The application is useless for those who already own a commercial license.

To make matters worse, I must uninstall it every time there is an update for After Effects. Quite frankly, I consider it bloatware. It useless and it wastes space on my hard drive.

I understand that there are people who don’t already own C4D who would find this useful which I why I think the ability to opt-out would make both sides happy.

I don't know why I didn't know this was happening before today, but I find it completely inappropriate to force install a piece of software from another vendor, because it "makes things easier".

I don't use 3D objects in my After Effects workflow too often or usually I'm just compositing in AE.

I honestly thought my system was compromised until I found the rabbit hole of users complaining about this.

Please allow for an opt out. With a small SSD, that space is carefully managed. Being forced to install another company's software package without being prompted is just rude.

Quick update, so I recently installed the new 2020 version of After Effects and I'm starting to realize that Adobe somehow developed the gift of making an already bad situation worse.

I knew they were probably going to install the new version of C4D (and I was right), but they're too lazy to uninstall the previous version they forced on to my computer. They're spreading like rabbits. Yes, I can manually do it myself, but that's beside the point.

Also to those who pointed out that the version installed by AE was not a trial version, You are right. I was opening it from the start menu which opens C4D normally. I hadn't realized that I had to open it from within AE to load C4D Lite.

That being said, I still don't like what Adobe is doing.

There was a comment here, which has now been removed, by a 'Warren Heaton'. This person is a 'community professional' over on the Adobe user forums, and he's been often quite condescending there to anyone opposing this forced C4D integration. Apparently, that wasn't enough, so he also continued here, saying that C4D integration is great and that he would down-vote this issue if the forums allowed it. Below is my response to that comment. I'll just leave it here for reference.

Warren Heaton the 'community professional' again. Trying to influence a vote here really is very inappropriate from your position and not in the best interest of the community. You should be here to represent us and help us.

This 'I would down-vote' snide is another cherry on the cake of your inappropriate comments. Did Adobe really hire you to make contributions like this? I am very curious what your deal with Adobe is and what you are instructed to do.

For anyone interested, there is a thread about this issue on the community forums where this guy is showing his finest qualities: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects/prevent-maxon-cinema-4d-force-install/m-p/11220030

It's asinine that I wasn't notified that it gets installed. If Adobe is bold enough to do this without a mention, what's to stop them from installing any number of other software packages on my machine?

I am interested in getting C4D myself but this forced install is truly disgusting. This is not how you integrate third party software into AE, you should not have to rely on the full original install to include a small part of the software integration in AE itself, or it should not present itself as its own application. I had no idea where this piece of software came from when it appeared in my computer and had to search online to find out it was installed by adobe. This is totally messed up and you guys should know better.

There isn't any two ways around it, this is wrong in too many ways.
1. I need to be informed that software is being installed into my computer
2. I need to be given an option of what gets installed on my computer
3. You shouldn't require this much bloat in software to integrate just the rendering engine of something else. This should've been a plugin that you can download if you own C4D, not an integration that you cannot opt out of.

Find a way to make sure users know that new software belongs to your installer so we don't immediately assume we've got a virus, and don't be using up our storage space randomly to include unrequested things like this. Adobe doesn't serve the one community, we are individual paying customers, you guys seem to forget that. I have better support from free subscriptions and software than this. Its easy to forget that I am paying a ton of money for something that should be better.

Adobe is not a company who cares! They are known for their bloatware! When a company uses its own super slow dumb installer rather than InstallShield (with no fully working uninstaller), what do you expect from them?

C4D should have a separate installer in the CC suite. It's third party software that I didn't ask for, is forced onto my pc and requires a separate license for full functionality. This really stinks of an inappropriate business deal made between Adobe and Maxon.

And it's clear Victoria didn't even read your comment, since she doesn't address any of your concerns

The version of Cinema4D that comes with AE is not trial/purchase only: it gives you access to the C4D Lite feature set as part of your CC subscription. You can also choose a time-limited trial of the full version when you register, and it will revert to Lite after that. Some newer functionality is enabled in Lite, however, so it's worth a look if you want to use features that aren't available in your perpetually-licensed version.
