P: Revert UI to older Camera Raw UI (12.2.1) after Interface Changes

after updating photoshop , when i opened it for the first time there was option to use camera raw as it is (vertical film) or to change it to new UI (with new look and horizontal filmstrip ), i just clicked new UI to see how it looks , i thought if i dont like it i will just go back to using older UI but there is no option to select older UI , i contacted adobe but person who was helping me just suggested that i should install older version of camera raw or ask for help from this forum , i found it bit frustrating that if there was simple option to choose new UI so why not give option to revert back to older UI with newly updated software. maybe its bug or adobe forcing people to use new UI even if they dont like it

For the past year and 2 months the Crop Tool in Adobe Camera raw has been 'broken' and many extra steps are required to gain the functionality it once had.

Thankfully a 'Classic' mode for the crop tool in PS was added when it was 'broken' but this has not been the case with ACR.

The Photoshop Family forum has been the repository for hundreds of comments related to this which include suggestions of adding a 'Classic' mode just to restore the workflow that was once enjoyed before the change as well as tutorials about how to roll back to the prior version to gain that crop funcionality that completely negates all of the work and advancements that have been made in the past 14 months.

You can see some of the comments here: Camera Raw 12.3: Crop Tool is sticky and jerky and can't select edge to edge in one pass | Adobe Photoshop Family

I would urge you to revisit this and to please add a Classic Crop Mode to ACR so we may get back to a significantly more efficient workflow and also enjoy all the improvements that have been made since that change. .

I welcome a discussion about this anytime - and thank you very much for looking into restoring / adding this feature.

The work you all do is amazing and to think this one aspect has been broken and not addressed for 14 months is a little appalling - with every update I do keep my hopes up that this will finally be 'fixed.'

Thank you.

I don't want to let this issue die.

Every now and then, I update ACR hoping to try "the exciting new features!" I am then immediately reminded about how the crop tool was hit with a wrecking ball in order to bring ACR in-line with Lightroom.

Is it too much to ask for a classic crop mode? I could learn to find the tools in their new position (ugh), but this new crop tool is like asking one to learn to write with their weak hand.

So, I'll keep updating and reverting back every couple of months.

Maybe I should just put all my money into Adobe stock and start pestering the investor reations team about this.

PLEASE Bring back the old layout! Or at least let us use a legacy version on new OS. I hate this new layout. If I wanted to use Lightroom I would. This is overly complex and not intuitive~

Charles it shouldn't be called CameraRaw 'Classic' it should be called ACR PRO. The LightRoom UIX that the GUI of ACR was replaced with is a consumer based internet layout. ACR 12.2.1's GUI is for Professional Photo editing i.e. ACR PRO. It abides by the basic principles of the HIG's.

How long until we can no longer use ACR 12.2.1 any more is the real question? With the new M1 Mac's out that might not be to far down the road. ACR 12.2.1 as is will never run native on M1 machines. How long will Rosetta 2 run it?

@Jerry_Syder I've tried reverting to 12.2.1, and then it no longer "works" with current versions of Photoshop or Bridge.

I think it is still possible to revert to the old interface but without the new features. Adobe has confirmed that there are no plans to bring back the old interface, sorry.

The 12.3 interface is really clunky and unintuitive, could we get the same new features in the old interface?

I am a proffesional photographer - weddings and fashion.  My work flow is select in Bridge maybe 500 images from 7000, adjust and crop 500 in raw, save and rename, maybe tweaks using photoshop on 20 images.  Despite trying my hardest to get used to 12.3 my producivity has halved at least... even cropping is really slow and cumbersome.  This is a huge backward step in my opinion - if I wanted the new layout I would have chosen lightroom.  Please consider getting back to the type of performance and UI layout out the earlier versions.  To be frank if it stays as it is I will be looking for another solution - I used to enjoy editing - now I hate it..  Andrew

I totally agree. A sad example of redesign without any visible progress. Please reconsider this mistake Adobe!

Cropping behavior in Adobe Camera Raw (12.4.0.55) changed a few months ago, and for me it is very frustrating. The photo behind the cropping frame moves instead of the cropping frame resizing while the photo remains stationary. It's inefficient, hard to control and aggravating. Adobe needs to change the behavior back, or offer a legacy option. I've been using it for the past two months plus, and I'm not used to it. Please change it back or give us a legacy option. Please hit the up arrow on the left side of this post to vote to make this change. That count ties directly into Adobe's bug/feature tracking.

I am sorry that some people do not like the change to the crop tool in ACR. I like the change much better than the way it used to work.

ACR 12.4 is perhaps the worst update of software I have experienced, with the possible exception of windows 8.  That may sound like hyperbole, but it took a product that has been a mainstay of the photographic community for 15+ years and made it arguably unusable.  I'll give one singular example of a change that encompasses the design philosophy - panning.  On my Mac, I previously panned using the Magic Mouse, which was the way it works in literally every other program.  Now, it pans until a tool is selected, then it changes to altering the size of the brush, and to pan, I have to jump to the hand, then slowly inch my way across the image, then go back to the tool.  I am at a loss as to how could have thought that was a good change.  What's more, that you didn't even include an option for the user to control their tool response is beyond stupid.  And that is just the tip of the iceberg.  Terrible decision making on Adobe's part.  I will revert to the old version, but there will be a point when that workaround is not sufficient.  I have started looking for new software to break Adobe's monopoly, because they have shown they are not a reliable partner.
