P: Support for Canon .CR3 Camera-matching Profiles

There is currently zero support for .CR3 camera color profiles in Lightroom... especially since the newer Canon cameras use a .CR3 format... making it difficult to get work done. Only slightly surprised that this wasnt planned for beforehand since there still isnt a 64bit version of the adobe programs that i can use on the most current version of MacOS.

The problem is also a hot topic in Japan.
I will use Capture One from now on.

DPP and Camera Matching profiles are similar but have some small differences. DPP is literally 30-60x slower on my very fast, top of the line PC than Lightroom which makes it a no-go.

@noah_wardrip DPP is technically the same as camera profiles, didn't that solved your problem ? A funky solution, but a solution nonetheless.

@noah_wardrip perfectly said and wholeheartedly agree.

@Rikk, the people here would not be complaining if we were all willing and able to have your workflow. Our workflows depend on the Camera Matching profiles in Lightroom and as others have said, my R5 and R6 are literally paperweights for many different shooting scenarios because I can't trust the post-processing in Lightroom to look good. As I have mentioned in previous posts, I have done all the suggestions (Color Fidelity, Color Converge, spun my own with X-rite, tried Capture One, tried DPP, etc) and none look like what the Adobe Camera Matching profiles give me for the EOS R, 5D Mark IV, 5D Mark III, 1DX Mk II, etc.

*tristan_gulyas  While I have no update information to provide at this time I can tell you the following on strictly a personal note.

I shoot a Canon R5. The first image taken with the camera was a color chart and the first stop made with that photo was the DNG Profile Editor to create an accurate profile of my particular camera.  I never use Canon's shooting styles and have never sought to emulate them either. Accurate color is my first goal.

I share this as a workaround for those who find Adobe Color not to their liking.

All of that said, if you scroll to top of this post you will see an Planned badge on this thread.  That means Adobe plans to release select CR3 profiles when they are available.  As with all future enhancements ETAs are not  provided.

*tristan_gulyas It seems like most of us agree with you 100%. I do. My 1DX2 camera is the best camera I’ve ever used and the reason for that is the color I can get out of it with camera standard.  My newer cameras are literally paperweights and useless to me at this juncture with those canon profiles.

@Rikk Appreciate the feedback, however my patience has practically run out in this regard.  I spent months trying to figure out why I was getting terrible results out of my R5 until I realised it was the camera profiles - even Adobe's inbuilt profiles seem to be giving me significantly worse results compared to my 1DX II.

I realise that the "official solution" is to simply state that camera profiles may or may not be released, but I just want to make it clear that LR is becoming far less useful to me as refresh my camera fleet.  So I'd like to request that Adobe consider working on this one.

Thanks!

I sold my Sony gear, so not sure. A1 is on the order of the 1DX3. A7R4 is on the order of the R5.

That’s interesting, so Sony doesn’t release those either? Are there Sony profiles now for the A7R4 or whatever the camera body is that’s equivalent to the 1DX3?
