P: Support for Canon .CR3 Camera-matching Profiles

There is currently zero support for .CR3 camera color profiles in Lightroom... especially since the newer Canon cameras use a .CR3 format... making it difficult to get work done. Only slightly surprised that this wasnt planned for beforehand since there still isnt a 64bit version of the adobe programs that i can use on the most current version of MacOS.

@Rikk I realise that it takes time to develop the right profiles.
But other manufacturers, such as Capture One, already offer suitable profiles.
After all, the R5 has been on the market for over half a year now.
The Adobe Photo subscription is not cheap and I would like to see a solution a little earlier. Unfortunately, the Adobe profiles are not satisfactory.

Adobe hasn't created any camera matching profiles for Canon's R-series cameras. Endless numbers of threads about this have been all over the internet, but I haven't seen any responses from Adobe indicating that they will be adding them any time soon.

The only alternative I know of is to buy 3rd-party profiles. Color Fidelity offers some for $25. The ones I bought were good. There may be other developers that also offer them, also.

I've not seen any satisfactory explanation for why Adobe is not supporting R-series. It shouldn't take this long. It certainly didn't take 3rd-party developers very long.

Hello,
I recently got the Canon EOS R5.
I don't have the camera profiles in Lightroom for it.
How can I set these?
Thank you
Johannes

@franz Grus DNG Profile Editor; free. See previous page for a visual example using that solution.

Far more powerful but not free: Lumariver Profile Designer.

@712389 rodney: what software would you use to create those matching profiles?

I must disagree, i find the colorfidelity profile totally terrible and useless.... Furthermore, I've tried different software packages and it seems not be an easy task to get a matching profile. And I am not really interested to have a match to the "real" color, I need a match to the canon color engine (like in their jpg files), because usually these are the colors people like most. The "grading" between the RAW and the jpg seems to be not constant, kind of depending on the content of the image... However, the camera specific profiles from adobe we used before with other cameras were usually quite good...

@andrew_rodney

I saw that - thank you. Unfortunately, it's not the color matching I'm really worried about. I have Color fidelity and they look good, but the problem is all of my presets were made with camera neutral/camera matching profiles. I didn't make them, I purchased them a while ago and now my entire workflow is based on those presets. without camera matching/camera neutral profiles, I'm out of luck to use them because they aren't compatible with Adobe, CF, or anything else.

Old answer but still the case.

Support for a particular flavor of a camera’s raw file does not necessarily mean that there will be Camera Matching profiles for that camera at the time of raw file support. It is normal for Camera Matching profiles to follow raw support by one or two releases. In the case of some camera manufacturers or the event of major changes by a particular manufacturer, that time may be greatly increased.

Note: Not all cameras will ever receive a set of Camera Matching profiles.

You can make your own, and get pretty great matching if you have the time and software to do so.
