Create Adobe Specific Devices

Full disclosure: I'm not super computer savvy, so if this sounds completely ludicrous, I would like to know WHY so I can learn.

Now, I don't know if this has been brought up ever or if it's even feasible, but that's why it's an idea, right? I also didn't feel like scouring through zillions of posts to figure it out... Why doesn't Adobe either collaborate with someone or just develop Adobe specific devices? In other words, create a device, whether it's a laptop, PC, or tab, that is fully optimized for program usage. I feel like I'm always reading how photoshop causes crashes or runs slowly etc., even though the person's device is supposed to be compatible. That way, whenever Adobe decides to do an update, there's no fluctuation in quality or multiple bugs to fix over however many platforms or systems people are using; everything just updates as one. Personally, I usually use Photoshop with plugins and camera raw to edit my workflow and just running photoshop alone takes up most of my memory or creates other problems in which I am subjected to the surprise BSOD and losing my progress. Lightroom is more "user-friendly" but still can be just as confusing, I feel. Adobe could also include easier tutorials within the device and a help system that uses more beginner-friendly vocabulary.  If they wanted to keep the subscription service, they could do so within the device or, for those who already are subscribers, just log in and go. The device could also include the availability of plugins for other editing software, as it already does.

For me, it's been extremely frustrating that after doing a ton of research on the compatibility of adobe programs with various laptops and pcs, purchasing one that supposedly was deemed "compatible", then trying to utilize photoshop only to have it cause BSOD and constantly run slow during. This might be an issue with my internal system or whatever, but I feel like lately I'm spending less time getting work done and more time trying to figure out how I can optimize my laptop to run more efficiently with Photoshop. I do know there are other editing programs out there and have tried MANY of them. However, in my experience, each program has a very limited number of tools that are comparable to Photoshop. Therefore, I always find myself going back to be able to produce a more "quality" image.

I wrote something similar as nVidia Geforce Now, or Virtual PC

Or maybe a better solution would be to switch to full streaming, like nVidia with GeForce NOW? Something like Virtual PC? 🙂

My observations are a little bit different. There are a couple of folks on the Photoshop forum who build their own PCs who have systems much more powerful than my very new Mac. Plus they can install multiple internal hard drives and swap out components that become outdated. One Community Expert installed three fans in his computer. I don't have that kind of expertise and won't be building my own.

Isn't GeForce NOW for gaming? For Photoshop it is recommended that you do a clean install of the Studio driver and do not use the gaming version. For details, ask on the Photoshop forum:

Best not to ask me what to do with your "unfortunate PC", hahaha. You wouldn't like my suggestion! 😊

perhaps there's a language issue.

I know, I worked on MAC for over 20 years and I miss it, because everything always worked fine there. But what to do with this unfortunate PC? A PC needs several times more power to do the same thing as on MAC, that's what my observations show. Switching from MAC to PC is about saving money, so a powerful PC at the price of a MAC is out of the question. There's a gap here, but is it worth doing anything? Or maybe a better solution would be to switch to full streaming, like nVidia with GeForce NOW? Something like Virtual PC? 🙂

But if Adobe entered into an agreement with Dell ....

...[and] clean Windows of unnecessary services.

Thank you for the clarification, which confirms my personal opinion that I would not be interested. I've been using Adobe apps on macOS for over 30 years. 😊

what is it that you think that pugent systems hasn't done already?

Ableton before it started making its own device, Akai first made their first version. It was just an example, maybe too distant though. But if Adobe entered into an agreement with Dell and marked these versions of Precision as Adobe Workstation, it would be enough to adjust the hardware to Adobe, a high-performance 3D graphics card is not needed, but a strong CPU, a lot of RAM and a lot of disk and efficient cooling, clean Windows of unnecessary services. Everyone has probably heard of Windows 11Tiny? I don't know if it's a good idea, but the fact is that when we get down to earth, the company has to buy laptops for 60 graphic designers in the company and these are not efficient Precision, but price-wise Latitude. If they had such an offer from Adobe, who knows.

So the idea is definitely good. Then such a Workstation does not have to be so universal, but more tailored to Adobe.

Your post is in Ideas, so Adobe staff will see it whether or not they choose to respond.

I don't totally follow your logic and that may be because I am not familiar with with the other devices you mention. Do any of them run other apps or is each device for a single app? Will Akai run Microsoft Office or QuickBooks? Will Ableton run Photoshop?

  • If you are thinking of a workstation tailored to Adobe, would it also run Ableton, MPC, and Microsoft Office?
  • Or would it only run Adobe Apps?
  • Would the OS on this workstation be Windows or macOS or do you want Adobe to create a new OS and rewrite all of their apps to work with it?
  • Would the Adobe apps still run on current systems or would everyone need to purchase a new dedicated system?

For me personally, I would not purchase a workstation made by Adobe, as I am quite happy with the choices that are currently available. Others who agree with you can upvote your post.
