Ability for Disable Program Monitor Zoom Settings

Please add the following settings
1. Ability to disable zoom on the program window or change mouse scroll wheel behavior. While scrubbing on the timeline with the mouse wheel it's prone to accidentally moving the cursor over the video and unintentionally zooming causing a frustrating experience.

2. Setting to disable the nodes on audio transitions in the sequence timeline. They make it more difficult to make edits in the timeline.

Hello again!

Recently, I had to finish a project started by a colleague in Premiere Pro v26.2 (without the possibility of downgrading the project to v24), and this issue — which is painful for many — has become relevant again!

Some new functions seem promising, but ZOOM (what is the purpose of it there anyway?) instead of SCROLL in the Source Monitor still makes this version practically unusable! How much time do you need to add a checkbox: "Remove zoom in source and return scrolling"? Why was this done in the first place? Personally, for me, this basic function is the MAIN factor why I haven't switched to Resolve yet... if I have to get used to working without it, I will do it in another program (and I’m sure I’m not the only one).

Please note that the last fully functional version (24.3) is currently the last one on the "Other Versions" list in Creative Cloud. This means that with one more update, it will either be lost or hard to access... only broken and useless versions will remain!

Do you plan to fix this problem? Please answer briefly in this format:

1 — "Yes, this annoying bug is scheduled to be fixed in patch N.... expect it soon."
2 — "No, there are no plans for a fix — cancel your auto-renewal."

Thank you in advance! This is a final cry from the heart, I hope you finally hear us!

Congratulations on the forum update!) Let's also update the thread about the unfixed issue that's preventing many users from fully using your product and updating to new versions (higher than the latest working version 24.3)!
I'd like to know what the prospects are for this long-awaited fix?!)

to deal with this annoying adobe issue set up a new shortcut for the function “fit” under magnification.

Hello, albiong22718917

I am advicating for this. Again, I am not on the team. I can only voice concern about the issue. The decision is in the hands of the product management. Sorry for the frustration.

Thanks,
Kevin

And respectfully, I see no difference really between different firms. Both have things that some users feel are ignoring those user's needs. It's Life. Sucks at times, yup.

And as an active participant in both ponds, there are issues for both firms. Is it maddening? Sure, especially if you're someone who's got stuck with an issue.

And as noted, I agree this  behavior in Premiere should be changed. I have posted about this myself, and have upvoted every Idea post requesting it be changed. Period.

That said, I make no excuses, for any of the company's making the hardware and software we all use, as explanations are not excuses. I do explain things at times. It does not mean I agree with, sympathize with, or excuse anyone. I do separate my feelings from those that others would have. As we are all different.

Thanks for the elborate response. I will read it when I have more time on my hands. This topic isn't about Resolve or Blackmagic. Plain and simple, users don't care what internal struggles lead to things not working like they should. If Adobe needs extra capital to add a checkbox to their preferences, they should launch a Kickstarter.

I honestly don't understand what you're trying to achieve here. We have established that there is a very simple solution to this issue. The only apparent reason why this has not been resolved to everyones benefit, is because it is simply not a priority to the devs.

Therefore, users will keep raising this issue and vent their frustration until they can use this essential feature like they used to. Continously deflecting, invalidating the issue or highlighting the shortcomings of the competition adds little to no value and detracts from the topic at hand. Respectfully.

I agree that the timeline scrubbing is a ton more picky now, and I don't like it.

That said, you also have to understand that BlackMagic makes a different basis ... they do not make Resolve as a product, but as a loss-leader for selling hardware. They don't make enough on the few actual sales of 'Studio' a year to probably cover the cost of the sales.

And ... I've got enough BM kit that I've got extra licenses in a drawer. Love my BM cameras.

But ... Resolve is a very closed-loop app. They do NOT allow other hardware makers to have access to their API, that is only for BM made devices. Whether the color, editing, or audio panels ... and they grudgingly gave Tangent the ability to have the Elements and Wave panels work within Resolve in a very, very limited fashion, totally controlled by the Resolve devs.

Such as ... my Elements panel, which in Adobe apps is a jack of all trades tool, not just color but audio mixing, sizing/rotating/repositioning any screen element, you name it.

But in Resolve? By design of BM ... that marvelous panel is limited to a few functions for colorist work, in a bizarre 'menu' system that makes no sense (you simply have to work with it for months to get the thing in physical memory), half or more of the panel's tools are simply not set to do anything at any one time no matter where you are in the bizarre system BM set up ... and it hasn't had any updates in tools it works with since around R15.

The Tangent people had been trying to get any updates from BM for years, finally gave up and created their "Warp Engine" options last year. Which allow the user to make screen-based uses of tools that have scrolling numerical controls ... which are rare but do exist on the color page.

So now I've mapped that Elements panel to work with the HDR panel and the Color Slice panel, and that does an amazing job. Pretty spiffy, though of course, as basically it's 'mouse emulation', like with mouse work, you can only do one tool at a time.

I'm used to working two or three tools at a time on that panel. But ok, at least the use in Resolve makes R more interesting to work in for color.

But as nothing really on the Edit, Cut, or Fairlight pages can be Warped, and none of their controls are mapped to the Tangent panel, I can't do any panel work in any other page but color.

To use a panel on the other pages, I would have to buy mulitple panels ... because Heaven forbid one panel works in Resolve on more than one page! ... so a separate panel for Edit, another for Cut, another for Fairlight (audio) ... and past the blame expense, where on my standing desk would I put all of them?

Have you checked the price on the Fairlight panels alone?

No, while I love my BM cameras ... in general, Adobe makes something I can setup for working in much faster than Resolve.

But of course, a good friend thinks Resolve is the most intuitive app ever designed by humankind. Shouldn't ever even need the massive manual.

While ... after years of use, I still struggle to remember where all the stupid context menus are hidden on various pages. "Intuitive" my donkey.

As I do heavily comment though, we are all different. Every flipping one of us. Noboby ever works like 'we' do. Ever.

Since you brought up Resolve:

I've been using Resolve for years as well and – while there is always room for improvement in any app – Resolve has a MUCH better handle on performance, preferences, stability et al.  All the while being a more complex piece of software.  The percentage of disgruntled users between these apps doesn't even remotely compare.

All that being said – every app has bugs, but we are not even talking about bugs here.

To bring it back to the tpoic at hand: we are talking about an editing software that has removed the ability to scrub through the timeline via mouse wheel hassle free.

I'm always a fan of user options, especially when changing something that would affect the users in many different ways.

I use Resolve and other apps on a daily basis, have for years. Every major colorist has a list of bugs and bad behavior choices that haven't been addressed for years. Why?

Because there are so many different things the makers of these complex and complicated apps are having to work on, that none of them fix everything.

The closest would be Baselight ... but for that app, you buy the computer from them, typcially three choices from $13,500 to $19,500 ... you never ever EVER add any other app whatsoever to that computer ... and you pay a yearly license of something like $1,500.

You get rock-solid performance, though ...

Thanks for the informational round-up.

What I gather from this, is that Adobe shouldn't simply change and restrict established workflows but instead offer their users a setting to go back to the old behavior, especially if it's a simple checkbox.

This isn't the first time that Adobe software takes one step forward and two steps back. Other companies apparently have better systems in place to not annoy their user base on a regular basis. Respectfully
