Interpreting 1.33 Anamorphic Footage Not Working at all

I've done plenty of projects using the footage modify features to interpret to a 1.33 HD Anamporphic ratio, but it's not working anymore in 2025. Is this a known bug?

Hi @Wes5C4F,
While we investigate this issue further, a colleague suggested a workaround that might help you temporarily get by.

Did you rotate your images in Finder before importing them?  If so, rotate them back; if not, rotate them all 90'.  Then import them into Premiere "sideways," apply the 1.33 squeeze as before, and then it should apply.  You can then rotate all your shots back to how they were.  Not the best, but hopefully this can help speed up your process.

Hi @Wes5C4F - That is strange. You should at least be seeing a shift with any of those settings.

Can you try and hold down "SHIFT" while launching Premiere and check the boxes
"Reset app preferences" (Backup Preferences first)

Let us know if that helps your issue.

  • Issue - Modify > Interpret Footage is not conforming to 1.333 HD Anamorphic
  • Adobe Premiere Pro version number: 25.1.0 (Build 73)
  • Computer Specs attached
  • Video format: Sony FX30, XAVC S 4K, 422 10 Bit
  • Workflow details: See video
  • Steps to reproduce - See Video
  • Expected result - The footage should have registered as desqueezed to 1.333 HD Anamophric
  • Actual result -  Nothing happens.

Thank you for your reply Ann, I neglected to include some key details. The footage is being shot as vertical HD footage at 2160x3840 and I'm trying to desqueeze using the built in Modify > Interpret Footage > Conform to: HD Anamorphic (1.333).

I've done this exact workflow many times but it's not longer desqueezing the footage.
