Add "Align to Key Object" option to Photoshop alignment tools

Please add a native "Align to Key Object" feature to Photoshop's alignment toolset, identical to how it functions in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. Currently, aligning multiple layers averages the distance between them or forces us to use a tedious Marquee tool selection workaround just to lock a single reference layer in place. Adding a "Key Object" option under the "Align To" menu would save massive amounts of time for layout, UI, and graphic design workflows.

That being said, as much as I love key objects first in Illustrator, and many years later in InDesign, I wonder how it would work in Photoshop which does not have objects. I just can’t see it, although I would be thrilled if it could work.

What I do in Photoshop is position the far left and far right layers, then select the appropriate layers. I align tops (for instance), then distribute to get equal spacing.

When I position the far left layer, I move it to the edge, then use Shift with the right arrow key and count how many times. Then reverse the directions for the other side. There are other ways, with guides, et cetera.
