Title: Non-destructive spot color workflow in Photoshop
Hello,
Please add a way to apply spot color to objects in Photoshop that stays live and editable, so corrections don’t require rebuilding the spot channel.
Applying spot color to specific objects today means painting or filling artwork directly into a spot channel. That channel is a static raster, so any correction, such as a moved object, a revised mask edge, or a change in coverage, means deleting and recreating the channel from scratch. Layers, smart objects, masks, and adjustment layers all support non-destructive editing, but spot channels don’t.
Corrections are routine in print production, and rebuilding channels adds rework on tight schedules. It also invites misregistration and ink-setting errors that can reach the press. Spot color is used across varnishes, foils, metallics, white ink, and brand colors in packaging, book covers, labels, and commercial print.
Allow layers, groups, or smart objects to be assigned to a named spot channel (with ink name, solidity, and opacity controls) so the channel updates automatically whenever the source artwork or mask changes, and exports correctly to PSD, PDF, and TIFF.
Thank you,
Felipe
