Please change "Create a Post" dialogs

The new forum design leads to a lot of confusion when some users click on “Create a Post” and then they don’t understand what is being requested. Here is what they see:

Nowhere does it say “title” and so some users go ahead and enter ridiculously long titles, and sometimes there is no text because they put everything in the title. Here is an example

This is not an isolated example, these ridiculously long titles happens often. Another example:

The dialog box is very confusing and misleading. Perhaps a better dialog box would say the word “title” which I think is much more well understood than “Briefly describe your question”. In its place you could say something like “Please enter a title (a few words) for your question”.

Please consider making this change. This would make the forum much more usable for people who use the forum regularly, and this would lessen the confusion for new users trying to create a post.

Hi @dj_paige - First I like to acknowledge the issue - I have seen these instances of long titles as well.

While the current flow was designed to help users to see existing posts (and avoid duplicates), I also think that it adds complexity that is not needed. Rather than doing a copy change we should simplify the flow and simply have one dialog that lets the user enter their question/request.

I think you have missed the point. The solution is not to combine the dialogs onto one page. The solution is that we need to ask the user for a TITLE (and we need to use that word TITLE). And then ask for the body of the message. Most people understand the meaning of TITLE as every newspaper, magazine, book and website uses titles. If you continue to use “Briefly ...” everyone has a different understanding of “Briefly”

One dialog is fine, as long as it says TITLE and not “Briefly Describe Your Question”.

I’m thinking more along these lines, which will fix both - name it title and remove a complicated flow.

I note that this requested change might take 10 minutes of time for some Adobe person to make the change, and in the month since I made the request no apparent action by Adobe has taken place.

In the lofty justification for the new forum, we are told lots of great thing that the forum will provide, but yet the new forum does not encourage clear written communication, in fact it inhibits clear written communication. This title issue is just one example of inhibiting clear written communication. There are others, one of which I will post in the next few days when I have time.

It sure seems as if Adobe doesn’t care about the titles. It sure seems like trying to enhance clear written communication is not a goal of this forum. And yet since most of the communication in this forum is written (some is visual via screen captures or videos), basic rules about written communication should be encouraged by the design of the forum.

the list of forum problems is long and whenever an employee is asked we’re assured they’re making progress.  otherwise, we see no progress and get no updates.
