FrameMaker

I have a 63 page publication. I added a few more illustrations and listing them as Figures. Performing the "Figure Title" Numbering goes well until Page 27 when the numbering resets. I inserted another "Figure Title" on Page 26 and it numbered correctly (Figure 7-9). But insetting the Figure Title on page 27, it resets to "Figure 7-1". I have tried every trick trying to get this to work, besides rewriting the publication. Please, can someone tell me what could be the issue? Last Framemaker Version I used was 5. So, I am fairly new to 2019. Thank you!!

Hello, I am trying to import an rtf into an unstructured Framemaker 2020 file. In previous versions of Framemaker we could click to import 'other format overrides' but I cannot see this option in Framemaker 2020 - the Advanced dialogue box in 2020 offers removal of manual page breaks and empty paragraphs. I see it mentioned in the 2020 help - but cannot see the option when I import (Eg the line spacing for some styles in my Framemaker 2020 document is set to 9pt, but when I import I get 17pt. All styles are affected.) Any help gratefully received. Apologies, I know I must be missing something obvious!

I found this info in the Adobe Technical Communication Suite (2019 release) Installation Guide Set-up.exe --silent=1 -uninstall=1 -sapCode=FRMK -productPlatform=win64 -codexVersion=15.0.0 -deleteUserPreferences=true When i run this from the command line it has seems to be doing something and shows a progress percentage. However, when the it is done with exitcode:0, FrameMaker is still installed on the system.   I have also tried the uninstall command from the registry but cannot get it to go silent. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Desktop Common\HDBox\Uninstaller.exe" --uninstall=1 --sapCode=FM --productVersion=15.0.2 --productPlatform=win64 --productAdobeCode={FM-15.0.2-64-ADBEADBEADBEADBEADBEADB} --isNonCCProduct=true --productName="Adobe FrameMaker (2019 release) 64 bit" --mode=1     Any info on how to uninstall this silently is appreciated.

Hi,   Just for those who work with FrameScript or ElmScript. Elmsoft published an update which works with FM 2020. You can download it here: https://framescr.com/wb/downloads.html   I had installed their beta version for FrameMaker 2020 which had expired a few days ago. Now the official update did not add the correct path in maker.ini. I had to change this manually in c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe FrameMaker 2020\maker.ini   Best regards   Winfried

Here's an oddity.   I use a Unicode typeface (Source Sans Pro) that has a fair number of glyphs in it. Yesterday I wanted to add the "Heavy Check Mark" (U+2714) to a document, and it came in as "??". Applying a number of other Unicode supporting fonts didn't change that, either. Strangely, the regular Check Mark (U+2713) worked just fine. Not the look I wanted, but I can live with it.   I just thought it odd that FM couldn't display the glyph at all. In fact, there are a lot of glyphs in that section that FM can't display. 

I'm trying to wrap an xml element within a fm element. The Dev Guide describes how read/write rules could unwrap, rename  elements,... but nothing like wrapping an element. Is this possible to do with r/w rules when reading an xml file?

HiRecently we have had problems with pdfs generated from Framemaker 12, edited in Acrobat, uploaded to a web portal, and then opened in Google Chrome browser. Only the first page is shown, the rest is blank.  The reason for why I think the problem is Framemaker is because I have the latest version of Acrobat and Chrome but an old version of Framemaker. So some change might have made them incompatible. Has anyone else experienced this? Or anyone has a solution?One workaround is to download the pdf first, then open it, or open it in another browser, but I get people error reporting on this all the time and I can't tell them one by one how to open it.

I am working with an Index. What I want at the top of the page is to show the text from the first GroupTitlesIX on the page followed by a dash and the text of the last GroupTitleIX on the page. For example, if the first GroupTitlesIX on the page is A and the last one is E, I want to see A–E at the top of the page.   Unfortunately, what I'm getting is A–   The master page is set up using two different running header variables:   Running H/F 10–Running H/F 11   Running H/F 10 is defined as <$paratext[GroupTitlesIX]> Running H/F 11 is defined as <$paratext[+GroupTitlesIX]>   Am I missing something, or is this just not possible to do?

Hello there. I'm using FM2019 and when I tried to convert XML and SGM format to PDF, it doesnt work. I opened a XML or SGM file and press "Menu - Save as PDF".Then a pop-up showed up and said "PDF successfully generated" while in the background the console said "Cannot save C\Users\[user name]\Appdata\Local\Temp\[file name.tmp]".Then I cannot find the PDF file anywhere and when I press the "View PDF" button in the pop-up, nothing happens.I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat and FM 2019 and reinstalled only FM 2019 but it didn't solve the problem.Also I tried everything the solutions in the help pages but the problem stays.So PLEASE HELP!!! I currently work in Windows10 64 bits and no Adobe Acrobat or Distiller. Thank you. 

I'm brining a batch of FrameMaker 8 files into FrameMaker 2015. When I am done I will need to archive the updated files and make MIF - or the equivalent - from the new files. What is the process? Thanks.

Hi all,I'm converting a bunch of files from FM 8 to FM 2019. When I open the FM 8 files in FM 2019, the images that were imported and copied into the FM 8 files are corrupted and appear as gray boxes in FM 2019. I don't have the source image files to import by reference into FM 2019, so I really need the images to survive the conversion to FM 8. Any suggestions? (PS The images that were imported by reference are fine, of course. The paths are retained.)Thanks!

Dear Framemaker community. I have a big problem with that, I spent a long time researching and couldn't find a solution. I don't know how to find too long words in tables, too long for a column width. It's not about a text overflow in table cell. I already scripted that. Here are a cells that are not overflowed in normal classic way. FM just breaks too long words into pieces without any warnings. I know I could hyphenate these places but I would love to know how to find these first. If you just give me a little clue how to find these places, I could script it for my needs, big thank you in advance! Les

I am building a small catalog in FrameMaker 2020. It is a product catalog and I create a separate fm file for each product. These files are then imported into the catalog file. When I import the product file I get an option to use the stylesheet of my catalog file and map it with that of the imported product files. This works fine for paragraph and character properties, but less so for object properties. It seems that FrameMaker does not do any mapping when it comes to object properties tags.Am I the only one to experience this? 

HelloI am trying to update a chapter in a framemaker book. FrameMaker keeps inserting a odd-numbered page (page v) for no reason. I've tried to delete the page and updating the book, but Framemaker (2019, by the way) keeps re-inserting the unwanted page. I've tried to delete the page by: 1) Right-clicking on the file, selecting "Pagination" and then in the "Before Saving and Printing" dialog, select "Delete Empty Pages.2) Format - Docuemtnt - Delete Pages FrameMaker keeps adding the page. Should I try deleting in the file outside of the book? I'm stumped. 

We are using Adobe Framemaker 2019 with Adobe Professional 2017.  For the past week, we have been having issues with the Adobe pdf printer inadvertently disappearing.  The only solution we have so far is to uninstall and reinstall Adobe Pro.  We cannot keep doing this so I have reached out to Adobe support for a solution but have not heard back yet.  This seems to only be happening to those of us in the company using FrameMaker 2019.  Is anyone else having this problem that can offer a solution? We don't know if there is a company involved script or something like that causing this. 

Hello using Structured Framemaker 2017 w. an S1000D imported template. Can not change xref colors to blue. I change it in Character Designer and when I setup to print to postscript, it changes back (before even hitting the Print button). IDK if it's the rules in my template, IDK how to even view my template. The pull-down box at the top right reads "XML/Structured." Found this prev link: https://community.adobe.com/t5/framemaker/how-can-i-color-xrefs-in-fm-2017/m-p/9869861?page=1#M55405 but it is of no help. I do not get the tags shown in the screen caps.

I downloaded and installed the 2020 FDK to checkout some property defintions to see if there had been any change. Of course you always open the fdkreference.pdf to look there first. It was the 2017 document, not the 2020. In fact all 3 FDK documents are for 2017 (I compared them). The other two remain as 7 documents, which is another problem all together. The .h files I checked, appear to be correct (#define FDK_LIBRARY_VERSION 0x16000000), so it looks like only the documentation is not 2020. The Reference guide available at this link, The complete API reference , does appear to be for 2020, but, bizarrely, has no version reference! For what it is worth I have created a bug, FRMAKER-9169 , which you may care to vote up. I have attached two screenshots showing the 2017 reference from the 2020 FDK and the reference downloaded from the link above. Jon

When "saving a Frame 2015" file as a PDF the square bullet character defined in the Bulleted paragraph tags does not display in the generated PDF file. This is a new issue since PDFs were generating fine up until a month or so ago. I did have to swap out the original Zapf Dingbat font (old post script font) that produces the square bullet with a different font, ITC Zapf Dingbat.First screen shot w/bullets, second one no bulletsAny suggestions how I can fix this?

HiSomething has been bugging me for a while.Let's say I import an image called screenshot.png. Later, I find I am not happy with the image so I take a new screenshot. I rename it screenshot.png and replace the old one in the folder. In Framemaker, the image is then replaced as well. But, as the dimensions are not exactly the same, the image doesn't look good in the document. So I have to delete the image and the anchored frame in Framemaker and import the image again. I wish there was some way to mark the anchored frame and say "adjust to image original dimensions" or something like that.  (I don't know the correct terms, maybe dimensions is not what you would use)

Anyone know an easy way to find all images, in a book, that have more than one reference to them. To import FM books to RoboHelp, we're finding there must be a seperate instance of each repeated image. 

I'm practicing with CourierNew box drawings characters.Before, looking just fine:  Then I replaced the XYZ with new "light horizontal" characters. (copy and paste from same line.) The html5 (or chm) output suddenly has replaced the "down and horizontal" character with something unknown - even though I didn't touch any of the characters in that area.    I can't understand why this happens, and how to avoid it.
