This may be another no-brainer, but I'd like to create a cross-reference to a step number. The problem I'm encountering is when I want to reference, for instance, "step 14 and step 15." I can't seem to figure out how to exclude the period behind the first step so it looks like "step 14. and step 15." Anyone know of a workaround? Thanks,Leanna
I have searched for the answer but I do not get the answers posted! I just need some steps to do this.I have usually inherited templates so has not come up before. I have a document with different sections. On the first page I need a text frame or flow with a single column width across the width of the page. Below it on that first page I want to start another text frame or flow with two columns. And then later on revert back to the one column followed by two columns. Not sure how to do that whether on a regular page or master page.
Hi, I am converting a Word document into FrameMaker.I have to insert a few long columns (sometimes over 150 lines per column section) at specific places in the text. There might be a very easy trick to do that, however I haven't found it yet! Basically, this is the document structure I want to achieve: Column sections (in green) that start and end within normal text sections (just like we would do it in Word). I have tried to divide my basic text frame and convert specific divided sections into column sections. 1 chapter divided into 5 sections: section 1: regular text and graphicssection 2: 2-columns sectionsection 3: regular text and graphicssection 4: 2-columns sectionsection 5: regular text and graphicsHowever, these sections do not automatically adjust when I paste large amounts of text into them. As a result, I end up having to manually ajust every divided section (stretch them vertically and push further down the next sections, as they do not move from their initial place (no "s
Hello all,I have not used PDF in a very long time, as all of my work is online. But now a client asked me to solve a couple of problems with their structured FM setup and one of them is making the links in the index work in PDF. Generating the PDF with the usual job options makes the hand appear over the page numbers, but the click does not lead anywhere (not even a non-existing target). I have tried switched on named destinations in the PDF settings but no difference. Can anyone tell me how the PDF generation is supposed to pick up the index markers ?Thanks4everJang
Hi again. I'm getting it down, however in structured when, I click on the red graphic box to add my graphic. Select the image, make sure copy into document is checked, select "fit in selected rectangle", click set. I look at everything "figure title, graphic, fm.graphic, fm.title, fm.titleref" , everything looks great. I put in a cross-reference, everything looks great. So, I save and close, then reopen. The graphic is missing, and error for unresolved cross-references come up.Why won't it save the image?
How do I get a word count? In the older versions we had a utility to count it.
I have a self published book that I wrote in Framemaker 10 (based on previous version even older). I'm updating the book and since I haven't touched FM in five years (and was never really an expert anyway) I have a few questions that someone experienced could answer pretty quickly. Anyone out there I could hire for a couple hours of questions over the summer?I'm in Brooklyn and someone nearby would be great, but of course google hangouts would also be fine. The end product is a print book through Createspace and Amazon Kindle, so any experience in that area would be great. To get started right now I'm making basic edits in FM10 but will likely eventually rent/buy the 2017 version to generate the Epub/Kindle version if that makes it easier. Thanks!John Huntingtonwww.controlgeek.net
Hello. FrameMaker 10 and Acrobat xi have stopped wanting to play together -- all of a sudden (an acrobat update?). Sometimes I can't even print to .ps -- won't make a .ps file. The platform is Windows 10.Help?
I recently installed a trial copy of FrameMaker 2017 on my computer. I opened a DITA 1.3 map from FrameMaker 2015 and tried saving it to PDF, I receive the message: There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found.I then created a very simple three topic map in DITA 1.3 and also DITA 1.2 and receive the same message.I then tried to publish the maps to Responsive HTML5 and receive the message: Failed to publish. Check if JRE is installed. I have no idea what JRE is and how to find whether it is installed or not.I look forward to finding a solution. Thank you!
Would decrease work. Maybe shortcuts too.
I have a lot of PDFs that belongs to the publication that i need to add after exprting a book to PDF. Would be better to have them in the book to save time.THe included PDFs could be re-PDFed again or not.
Currently i find no way to be able to have A4 files and A3 files in the same book and get an output according to that. All A3 are cropped to A4.EDIT: I could make this wor by making a PS and Destill it.Those damn paragraph to bookmark settings keeps changeing - whi cant they just save?
I am using Frame Maker 8 and I am trying to import PDF files into a FM document. So far, the only way that it works is to Use File --> Import ---> File and then select the PDF document and the page. Then, I need to manually re-size each page to fit the Frame document. The problem with this method is that I have hundreds of pages of PDF documents to import into the Frame file and it will take forever doing each page one at a time. Is there a way to import a multiple-page PDF document all at once?
Using FrameMaker 15 with Windows 7, why does FrameMaker lock up when trying to Publish? I can select the format I want, but when I try to change settings, and select Style Mapping, it closes my Publishing options and then nothing happens. If I bypass the setting options and select Generate Selected Output, it creates a file in the location I indicated, but it won't let me view the output file. Nothing really seems to be working for me.
Good Morning, Everyone,I'm experiencing a little trouble trying to come up with a solution for a small conditional logo that must be placed in the headers for half of my printed manuals. For specific products that my company sells, certain emission standards must be met. These are represented by a mandated logo that must appear on each page of printed manuals. That brings me to the current challenge. I can't use anchored frames (which can be conditionalized) in headers and footers. Does anyone know of a work-around that might work?Thanks!-Leanna
I have two different para styles that show up in different section titles depending on the length of the text. I can't change the length of the text, because the titles are existing and the FDA doesn't like it when you just go changing things willy nilly. So on the reference page the line reads like this:Section <$volnum> – <$paratext[SectionTitle]><$paratext[SectionTitle 2-Line]>However, in the TOC the SectionTitle is showing up twice and the SectionTitle 2-Line not at all. This tactic does work in the chapter headers. But I have a sinking feeling it is that pesky little space before the 2.Can I replace it with a %20 or something Windows-y like that to make it work?? (Please say yes. Please say yes.)Happy Monday everyone.
Not sure if this was a problem in recent versions or not (haven't adjusted tab stops in a while).I have a paragraph format with:- First = 0.25"- Left - 0.5"- Tab stop = 0.375" LI wanted to change the tab stop to 0.5" L, went into Paragraph Designer, edited tab stops, changed the value, clicked Continue.Paragraph Designer reappeared, tab stop value appeared as 0.5" L for a moment, then reverted to 0.375".Any idea why this is happening and/or how to go about fixing it?Thanks.
Greetings!I am working on an XML application that uses the same element <graphic> for inline elements (for example icons in a paragraph) and general figures.I have two object styles:inline: sets the "anchor position" to "insertion point"figure: sets the "anchor position" to "Below current line"(I apologize if my property names are off; I'm actually using FrameMaker in Japanese, so I don't have the correct English names.)I want to have a context rule where, if the <graphic> element is a child of <para>, it's assigned the "inline" style. If it's a child of <figure>, it's assigned the "figure" style. My current EDD looks like the following:Initial graphic element format1. If context is:para Insert imported graphic file.Anchored Frame Object Style:inlineElse Insert imported graphic file.Anchored Frame Object Style:figureHowever, when I import my XML into FrameMaker, only the "else" clause takes; all <graphic> elements have an object sty
Hi, I am new to Extendscript and Framemaker. I am trying to cycle through a book and find which paragraphs are/contain anchored frames. If they contain an anchored frame, I want to be able to select the paragraph and apply/remove conditional tags on the paragraph. This is what I have so far://code to Show All conditions including hidden ones in book.//take the object of the active bookvar openedBook = app.ActiveBook;//function call - defiend belowopenBookFiles(openedBook);function openBookFiles(openedBook){ var bookChapter = openedBook.FirstComponentInBook; var counter = 0; if(bookChapter.ObjectValid()) { var chapterId = bookChapter.id; while (chapterId) { var chapterName = bookChapter.Name; &
Hi All,My question is, How can I get rid of the Character Format that I have applied Paragraph Tag and bring Line 3.16.9 back to Normal Heading 3 ???As shown in image below, I have Heading 3 (Line 3.16.10). I also created Character Format and applied to Heading 3 (Line 3.16.9).Thanks.
Hi, all.I am using FM 12.0.4.445. I am required to have the label attribute populated in section, subsection, figure, and table elements. The label attribute is what is used to build the table of contents, therefore, I have to have the label be the section, figure, etc. number. As I'm sure you can imagine, this makes it very difficult to add a section at the beginning because then I have to go back in and rename all of my labels because the sections numbers increment by one. It wouldn't matter if I was only using FM to convert to .pdf, but I have to round trip this to XML to be kept in a database. Is there a way to make the label attribute of the section, figure, etc. pull the number of that section, figure, etc. with something like <$paranum>? I've tried several different ways and when I save the file as XML, the section number doesn't come in as the label attribute. It comes in as the text "<$paranum>.Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm stuck with my DTD and schemas
I can do what I want to do in InDesign, QuarkXpress, and PageMaker, but for some reason this functionality appears to be absent in FrameMaker, which is utterly dain bramaged.I have a placed image in multiple places in a FrameMaker document. The image is placed by reference, not embedded. I now want to link to a different graphic (annual updates).Re-placing the image a zillion times is not an option, as the sizing and position is already set. I just want to change what FrameMaker is linking to.For the life of me, I cannot find where or even if, I can do this. The inelegant solution would be to simply move or rename the currently-linked-to file on the hard drive, and rename the new graphic to the same name as the old one. I do not like that option at all, as there are some instances in other documents that I still wish to link to the old image file.Is FrameMaker's link handling really this clumsy and archaic? In the other applications I refer to above, I would either go to a links palette
Hi,I checked that C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\14\resources\welcomeScreen\welcome.html is ok with IE11, but I start start Fm 2017 (in trial mode so far), the welcome screen flashes briefly, and is replaced with another pretty useless one, showing link on the top to White Papers.Any idea how I can avoid that? Thanks!
I am trying to activate a frame maker license on a computer, but frame won't let me because it was registered on an older computer that failed several years ago and was tossed. No one is using the license, but adobe apparently has recorded that it was associated with the old machine and won't let me activate it on the new cpu. We have the license, records and installation DVD, but I can't find a method to deactivate the license via Adobe so I can reuse it.Any ideas?
When I double-click a file to open it directly, Framemaker reports the following error. When I open Framemaker and click File>Open and select a Framemaker file, it will appear to open the file but no content is displayed. It is completely blank. If I close, save as, or print the file, the file content appears in the background but it disappears when I close the save/print window. This happens to every Framemaker file including new files. My colleagues can open and edit the files normally. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Framemaker 12 but it did not fix the problem. Kind regards.
