FrameMaker

DOOOH! I think I clicked something accidentally within the last week and don't know how to change it back.When I use the "Save as PDF" function, the resulting files won't allow me to print. The top of the window displays the following: "filename.pdf (SECURED)". I don't see anything in the PDF Setup window regarding this.The Help file wasn't helpful this time around. Anyone know where this setting is?FM2017 on Windows 7.Thanks!

I am running FM 11.0.2.384 on Windows 7, and have accidentally changed upwards of 700 text items in a book which has nearly 30 chapters incorrectly, by inadvertently activating the text "A" shortcut, with the search and replace window open.While extremely frustrating and time-consuming, I could re-run a search for the boolean string. Unfortunately, the replacement text box was blank.The original text has been replaced with a space, which I can't accurately search for, considering the original word had plurals as well as past-tense instances.Is there any way in which I can reverse a "change all" command from within the Framemaker 11 interface?

Does anybody have to convert a CMM to Framemaker from Interleaf?  If so, what is the process?  I can bring in files into Framemaker and format them.  But they are not structured.  Once I get them into Framemaker I will need to output in structured PDF and XML.  Is there any training on how to do this or know where I can get some training?  Any and all help is welcome.

I have FM 2015, but if I try to save a file as Word, the only option it gives me is RTF 1.6. Isn't there anything more recent than that? I can't even do this conversion because FM crashes almost every time.

I have a complex file that grew to 35 conditions in the days before FM8 expressions. I used Webworks to convert to help, and had the conditions and variables for each desired output defined in a separate FM settings file, so I just needed to import those into the book and convert. Happy Happy.Flash forward, the files are now in FM8 and I use TCS1 to convert to help, so I have to set the conditions using an expression in FM. Having to create the expression manually with so many conditions is tedious and error-prone, so I'm <finally> able to take the time to clean up the conditions to reduce them to the bare minimum required and multiple-tag paragraphs as necessary. However, I'm testing the expression first and can't get the output I want, and haven't been able to find a resource to help me (if anyone knows of such a beast, please direct me there).Here's the setup:Conditions:- A, B, C, D (a para can be any or all of these, but only one can be chosen for output)- cake or pie (mutual

Has anyone else had this issue, or have possible reasons why it is happening?I am using FrameMaker 2015 on Windows 8.1.Fonts used are HelveticaNeueLT Pro TrueType family. Fonts are new within the last 4 months.Seemingly out of the blue, my Save As...PDF (using this option to get correct CMYK colors) will stop printing many of the Helvetica fonts properly. They come out fat and blocky, as if the correct fonts are not installed on my system (but they are).I'm trying to see if I can track this down to Windows automatic updates, but can't figure out what on my system is changing to break the print process.Last time it happened, a reinstall of FrameMaker fixed the issue. This time, reinstall has no effect. IT has also tried reinstalling the fonts, to no avail. My PDF settings are set to embed all of the TrueType fonts in use into the document.I just don't know what else to look at. Does anyone have any ideas?Thank you!Diane

Our team is trying to implement import and export of the MIF files in our translation software, and we have several additional questions about using escape characters in the MIF files:1. Should we set escape characters before non-ASCII characters in the MIF files made with the recent FrameMaker versions?2. If yes, which notation should we use \x or \u?3. Are \x and \u in the MIF files equal for the FrameMaker? I.e. \xA0 and \u00A0 are regarded as the same character, right?4. Your MIF specification says that all FrameMaker characters with values above the standard ASCII range (greater than \x7f) are represented in a string by using \xnn notation, where nn represents the hexadecimal code for the character. The hexadecimal digits must be followed by a space. We have file samples which do not meet the requirement about following space but work well with the FrameMaker. Could you please let us know whether this requirement is mandatory?We would appreciate any help.

I'd like to create a semi-transparent text box so that the background image subtly shows through the text box without affecting overall readability of the text.I read an older forum post that indicates it cannot be done, however, I'm hoping that is not the case now.  When I look at the Help related to Text Frame Properties > Fill, it looks like I might be able to use Tint to get a transparent effect, but that doesn't seem to work (I must have misunderstood).Please advise.ThanksLynn

FrameMaker 11I created a structured document several years ago.  Each page is version tracked and the whole document is tracked using a List of Effective pages usings the LEP markers add on.  Now I am making amendments to individual pages and I would like to update the revision date and number for each page but I am running into an issue.  Currently H/F $1 = revision date and H/F $2 = revision number.  These markers are references on the master page footer.Original issue was November 1, 2015 and for example if I update page 10, I insert markers to update the revision to the current date (April 17, 2017) and revision number 1.  Now every page moving forward from page 10 will have these numbers when I only wish to change page 10.  Is their a way to add default markers to each page so when I update page 10...it only updates page 10 in this scenario?I hope my description makes sense.  This is a 300 page document split into 10 chapters so I don't want to d

So, Frame 12 (which I'm still having to use for a particular HTML Help project, as it screws up the graphics in Frame 2015 and Frame 2017 and so far Adobe haven't responded with any solution, even though I sent them the project as requested....) crashed this morning with an Internal Error when I spell checked. Hello,In FM10 the spread -10% (and font color Red) was used for hide tekst (Titles) used by HF/R. See picture. The black box is the Title, it stands outside the text frame.In FM2017 the spread (Letter Spacing) can't handle the -10% as FM10 does. How do I hide the text, align the text outside the text frame?Or are there better solutions to hide text?Please help...TIA. Belinda

I have two end-of-document markers at the end of my document which gives me three blank pages at the end of the document. How can I remove the extra pages?

FM 2017 / DITA 1.3EDD is ditabase.edd.fm, most of which is stock standard, except I am working with a flattened copy (text insets converted to text).I have a problem with output and I'm hoping the community can give me a little nudge toward the correct context rules to specify here.I noticed that on output, my figure titles don't format correctly in at least one circumstance (topic type is TASK):<steps><step><cmd></cmd><info><fig><title>Title Here</title><image href="foo" /></fig></info></step></steps>This is the required structure to get a figure into a step. The paragraph tags at the end of this page are not displaying the correct content but I verified they are the correct paragraphs tags. And the weird part is that it only is an issue at the end of the page. Continuing on in the document, everything is fine. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hi,when I insert an image element into a paragraph then I would like to have the placement attribute automatically set to inline. Can I control this over the EDD? When I set the attribute as optional and define inline as the default in the EDD then this is simplay ignored by Framemaker.However, when I set the attribute as required then I cannot define a default value at all. I am converting a manual from InDesign to FrameMaker. To get the text in FM, all of the text is exported from InDesign to text only, and it is copied from there and pasted into FM.Now and then there are soft line breaks that I need to delete. This is what I was doing within the word "medium" when I hit the delete one too many times.Now it seems I have taught FM never to hyphenate the word medium.It is still hyphenated in the Spelling dialog screen. Here's what I've tried to fix it:I've tried re-applying hyphenation (several times) to no avail. I've tried deleting the word medium and retyping itI've tried adding "me-di-um" to the site dictionary and applying hyphenation againI've tried closing the file and reopening and reapplying hyphenation againI set Personal dictionary to NoneI cleared the Document dictionaryI'm out of ideas.
