I found yet THREE more other features you all have removed---as a FrameMaker user of 20+ years---I am not happy. I rely on FrameMaker's fast and quick features to do my job. I run several different departments for different companies (all of which I have had them purchase FrameMaker each time, thousands of dollars)----now you are removing features have helped make my job so fast, making us have to do more clicks than necessary, etc.I constantly use Variables, and having the Edit Variable window stay up the whole time (until I choose to close it) enables us to quickly go through each one & change them fast---now I can't? You make it so I have to constantly double-click for each one now? Hassle. Bring back the ability for us to keep it open?Page Break window = This used to be able to be "docked" into the little pod that we can keep open---now I cannot do this? Hello.I am using Frame 2015 in a Win 7 environment.My table titles include autonumbering. So do my figure captions.When I publish to .chm, the table autonumbering disappears, whilc the figure caption autonumbering is displayed correctly. I've poked around in the Publish Settings but don't see any obvious way to handle the problem.Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?--Nancy

Is there a way to generate a list of images used in a book? Not to include within the book, but to use for maintenance and cleanup of files. I have many legacy books that go back 10 years, and would like a quick way to identify those images still in use so I can delete the rest, per book.Thank you for any advice!

Hello, all.Delighted user of Frame2015 in Win 7, here.Suddenly every chapter in my book is chapter 1, and every appendix is appendix A.I have correctly set up chapter and appendix numbering for the past 25 years at least. Why has it suddenly stopped working? I have set up theI know that our autonumbering is somewhat antiquated, but until this very evening, it worked. The pre FM 5.5 variables were set up correctly, and numbering properties were set up consistently both in the individual .fm files and in the book files. But, suddenly, autonumbering has ceased to work.I've read the sections in Matt Sullivan's book, but I am a bit afraid to start adding the <$chapnum> variable into our autonumbering setup, since I don't know how it ripples through other document setup. I need these files to work, soon, and I don't want a trial by fire to learn the use of the variables. I also don't know what the appendix equivalent variable is.Has anyone run into this sudden failure of autonumbering?

I have several cross references (fm-xref) inserted into my ditamap. When I insert them, I select the task or concept element that I want to link to, select Format dita default format, and click insert. The cross references are inserted into the document and display as I would expect.The problem occurs when I save, close, and re-open the dita file. The cross reference no longer looks like a link, the spaces between words in a title are removed, and when I inspect the cross reference in the pod the format has switched to 'Text' rather than 'Format' dita default format.How do I make the dita default format stick?Also, I would really like the cross reference format to include the section number and title text of the topic. My section numbers are applied later in the publication process when I apply a template to my composite fm doc generated from my ditamap. Can this be done simply?Thanks in advance for any help,Kat

Dear All.Good day, i face a problem in FM 2015, I have Framemaker 2015 as Trial and installed last updates on it, working in project in Arabic language.I will try explain my problem in short linesArabic Language has special letter typing called "Arabic Diacritization" for example the in the below pic. (The Pic from FM)The problem is when i type such letters in arabic and get print the .fm file, the result in the PDF is shown as below pic.The New Version of FM 13 is really good in handling such language like arabic, but i want to know why this ONLY issue still exist in the Version (Even after update).the characters that include the arabic diacritics is breaking in the baseline. and this totally wrong in arabic language.so if you know anything can help or plugin or script to solve this issue, as this way of type in arabic can change the meaning in language.please try to send any thing help me here ASAP.

I'm using the Adobe Technical Communication Suite 5. I've got two FrameMaker 12 books, each linked to its own RoboHelp HTML 11 project, and I'm generating two separate .CHM files.My goal is for a topic in one .CHM file to contain a link to the other .CHM file. The two .CHM files are going to be in the same directory, but customers have the option of installing both .CHM files in any directory they choose, so I need to use a relative path name.Since the sources are all in FrameMaker, I need to specify a hyperlink in a FrameMaker file that uses a relative path name to open a specific topic in a .CHM file. That hyperlink needs to be preserved when I run the FrameMaker file through RoboHelp.I tried posing this question to the RoboHelp/FrameMaker Integration forum, but I only received responses from RoboHelp experts. They know how to solve my problem in RoboHelp, but not how to specify such a link in FrameMaker. I'm hoping someone here has solved this problem from the FrameMaker side.Thanks

Hi all,I am currently developing a script that automates the addition of new paragraph text comprising variables and string. b_user_input is the the variable name defined in framemaker which is input by the user. However doc.NewAnchoredFormattedVar is not able to recognize the same and prints nothing in the document. Hello,I usually work with structured FM doc, but for once i need to work with unstructured doc.I need to make a script that check if there is only few chararter at the last line of a paragraph, and if yes, to apply a "spread -2%". and check if i lost one line.I was thinking, if i can compare the number of line of a paragraph before and after the "spread -2%" and if it's "after" is smaller than "before".If yes => i lost one line in my paragraph.In million paragaph, i can win few pages in my doc (doc large than 1.000 pages)I already have script to walkthrouth all the paragraph of a doc, another to apply and/or check paragraph values (spread).But how can i count the number of line in one paragraph?Do i have to put my cursor in each line of my paragraph and check the FTI_LineEnd (normal, hard, hyphen) to know when i reach the end of my paragraph? Or there is another way?

Hello all,Currently tearing my hair out with the direction/placement of parentheses in bilingual Arabic/English document.What I want to achieve is what's on the bottom line of the screenshot, but without the question mark, so PCV(TgV) not (PCV(TgV as the line above.If I put the cursor where the yellow highlight is and insert a Left-to-Right Mark, the parentheses are correct but the question mark appears (which shows in the final PDF).I've tried all sorts of combinations but I just don't know what mark/embedding I need to put where to make it work.I did read a post about FM 2015 that outlined the direction feature, which also said "Optionally, flip individual objects, such as paras, tables, images, lists, and neutral characters such as parenthesis." How do I do that?

Hi, is it possible to customize keyboard shortcuts in FM? I want to assign a keyboard shortcut for Paste Special > Text. Is there any way I could do it?

I'm working with a very long, complex FM template with many mapped paragraphs -> template pages. I just inserted another row and the last row of the table runs off the page, but doesn't display on the next page. (I even tried adding a page.) It is there, just being cut off by the limited page length. It is worth mentioning that our user manuals are 5.5" high, not 11". I used to love working with this product, but these are the things (seemingly undocumented) that are taking the fun out of it.Has anyone else run into this? There is actually a table format for this table - UnstructMasterPageMaps, but I cannot see a setting that would prevent the page from flowing to the next page.All this trouble for a reference page.

Dear community,I retrieve some strings from a *.txt file over a local network, and later store those into the variables of a *.fm file.The *.txt file is UTF-8 encoded. I'm running Framemaker 2015. I can create PDFs out of books just fine, but when I try to save an individual FM file as a PDF, I get this truncated window and can't continue the save:Has anyone else seen this? Is there a solution?

Hi all, I am currently working on some updates to a project I originally did in Frame12.It was just an ordinary bunch of Frame files, with a fair few screenshots (PNG format), that were output as HTML Help (CHM files) using the Publish command.I still have all the original source files (and the .sts settings fill and .htt template file).I tried opening one of the chapters today in Frame 2017, where it looks fine, nothing wrong... until I do File > Publish... the CHM output has every single graphic missing! Replaced by a blank line.    There's no error message that I can see. If I view the Log file, each of the PNG files I was expecting in my output is mentioned by name. I then tried going back to Frame 2015 and doing File > Publish there. ...  there result is not as bad, but still basically awful:  all the PNG screenshots have been resized, so look fuzzy.  One graphic (where a PNG is in an anchored frame with some text annotations added) comes through wit

I'm running FrameMaker 12.0.4, and I have a bunch of books that I am converting the HTML Help via the Publish command. I've been working on these books for a couple of years and thought they were pretty stable.However, I have discovered a particular graphic in a particular book which is just simply not there in the HTML Help output.There's no error message, everything else is as expected - this graphic is just missing!It is a PNG in an anchored frame like pretty much all the others in the book. I am at a loss to understand why it's vanishing.Any suggestions?I've already tried opening and resaving the PNG in MS Paint (just in case it had some weird unsupported chunks - although I generated it from Illustrator CC 2014, don't see what could be wrong with it),and I've tried deleting it from the page and reimporting it.I've tried placing it in different parts of the page.I've tried turning my computer off and back on again.
