My time is up. This weekend my computer is trying to upgrade. I am stalling. I am aware of issues with Acrobat and printing. Does anyone have experience with FrameMaker 2015? Mike

Hello,I tried to understand from the FM help how to create an image map but I just cannot work out the details. At least the German translation of the help is partially very unintelligible. Can someone point me to the required steps?From what I read, image maps will be converted to HTML and XML. So when I edit DITA files, does FM create the correct imagemap elements? And when I import to Robohelp, are HTML image maps created?Robert

Hi All,I have a Table of Content, in which I have some entries that expands to two lines.When Table of content entries expand to two lines, Leader Line are not added and page Numbers shows next to the entry.See Image below: Entry with RED ARROW -  1.9.4 shows Page 44 without Leader Line:Any explanation will be appreciated.Thank you.

I am about to make a book with recipes in FrameMaker 2015. The book is to be published as html 5 and pdf. I would like to be able to tag all recipe ingredients, so that one may click on them and get a search whice encompasses all the instances of the tagged work.Is it possible to do that with variables ? I need to produce an interim manual for review. This is about half of the overall project and thus will contain roughly half of the original book's chapters.Is it okay to make a second .book file and place it in the same folder as the full .book file?While this might seem like a dimwit question, I've learned to tread lightly when it comes to FrameMaker references and internal interconnections between files, as well as FrameMaker's penchant to treat cross-refs and links as absolute rather than relative.More detail: The people working on this have named the original (full) book as "book.book." Is there any problem making, say, a (~half-length) "10-1-16.book" and putting that file in the same folder as "book.book"?

Hi,Our Organization has recently bought FM. We have many ditamaps and files made in XMetal that we need to convert to FM.I tried to create a structured template but the existing files are not adopting all the inherent styles automatically.Like I want all concept titles to be blue font size 18 and all tasks to be red font size 12. how do I define these properties in the template? and how do I ensure that all ui controls are bolded and all this to happen automatically.Please suggest good resources/ videos/ steps.Garima

Hi, all.I want to get your opinion on the strategy I intend to adopt unless someone tells me about a better way!I recently imported ~150 .html files into FrameMaker, and tidied them all up, so that they could become the basis of future single-sourced PDFs and HTML5 help systems. I find it hard to scroll through 150 .fm files in the .bk file to find the individual topic I need, and I can't think of a reason to keep the .fm files separate. Therefore, I am going consolidate the .fm files in large chapter files and, ultimately, create a traditional FrameMaker book file that will produce a traditional PDF. Then:1.  I'll generate PDFs in the usual way.2.  In order to create HTML5 Help, I will use the Settings option to split each .fm into topics at the H1 and H2 levels, and suppress my Chapter Title sections completely (since they contain book-metaphor connective material).Would any of you use a different strategy? If so, what are its selling points? Would you keep the ~150 separat

After compiling a book, I found the following in the FrameMaker Console:C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker2015\fminit\PublisherThe "Arial Black" Font is not available.  "Arial Black Heavy" will be used in this session.The "Times" Font is not available.  "Times New Roman" will be used in this session.The "Arial Black" Font is not available.  "Arial Black Heavy" will be used in this session.I've searched through C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker2015\fminit\Publisher - there appear to be no fonts there.What is the console trying to tell me?

Menu fonts and symbols are too small after FrameMaker 12.0.4 Update on Windows 8.1 - no effect on changing the preferences - were can I chnge it?

After struggling a couple of weeks with FM, it occurred to me (belatedly) to see if there's a book that might give insight into FM's user interface.... Amazon & Kindle to the rescue - Matt Sullivan and Rick Quatro's FrameMaker Creating and Editing Content. This was after checking out the materials on the Adobe site (my review, should it ever happen, will begin, "This uneven, eclectic collection of uncategorized materials...") and attacking the help file. Unfortunately, the help file kept attacking back and for the first time, I could get nowhere.Thanks to Matt and Rick, I now have a resource that rewards my searches. At last, for example, I discovered the reasons behind the hilarious results of my attempts to insert and otherwise futz with a table how to unravel exactly what a given T could possibly meanand many other mysteries.Thanks indeed, Matt and Rick.

I am not able to select "None" for the option "Bookmarks Expanded through Level". It always jumps back to Default. Any suggestions? I am using FrameMaker 2015 on Windows.

Hi,we switched from FrameMaker 12 to the version 2015 and I noticed that I can only save the MIF formats 7.0 and 2015, but not the format MIF 12.0 that was used by FM12. Am I missing anything? Is MIF 2015 identical to 12.0 and just renamed?We use MIF for localization and I have the impression that switching to MIF 2015 has drastically decreased the number of matches, which would make sense if the TM was established with a different MIF 1.0 format.Robert

I'm looking to update an FM book.As a freelance project, I've updated individual chapters in the book, renaming each file by appending "UPD" to the original file name. These are content chapters, not generated files (TOC, indexes, etc.). The renaming isn't optional - the owner of the book needs to know, on the filename level, which files have been updated by me.Is there a direct, minimal-step way to replace, say, "Chap1" with "Chap1UPD"?Or do I have to add "Chap1UPD," then manually delete "Chap1?"

They also don't carry forward into stand-alone List of Tables

Hello Framers, Several of my team members recently upgraded to update 4.FrameMaker 2015 update 4 (2015.0.4)Now they get a console message (appears to be benign) as follows:"C:\Program Files [x86]\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker2015\fmInit\Publisher"There's really no reason for the message. The Publisher directory is found and has the FMPublisher.dll file in it. So far these folks haven't run into an issue, but this is a strange console message for them to be getting. Makes me hesitate to upgrade.

Hi,I need to edit and save FM 2012 files in my FM 2015 version. If I am using the unstructured product interface, all buttons and menus are gone, but the pods are still there. What am I missing?Thanks, Philip

Was running v13.0.1.385 when this happened today, and have loaded update to 13.0.4.532 where it still happens.(NOTE: This happens on my main PC (Windows 7). I have a notebook (Windows 😎 that is also running 13.0.1.385 and the problem does *not* occur there.)Was working on a couple of books, when suddenly one of the documents showed the 'cannot display some imported graphics' dialog and showed a gray box. Usually this happens when too many things are running (in the past, at least) and FM would get cranky.Closed everything, rebooted, started Frame, opened book, same problem -- some images were gray boxes (full size of anchored frame), some were black rectangles (size of the original image within the frame), and some showed just the top portion of the image and the rest was black.Took a sample screenshot, saved into different formats, then imported the images into my doc to see what would happen:.gif - displays top 1/5 of image, then the rest is pink.jpg - displays top 1/10 of im

I'm using Adobe Creative Suite 3, photoshop and AI software to edit my illustrations.  I save as an eps file and link to the art.  When I make a PDF the art I edited in photoshop or AI comes out fuzzy.

Hi all, what we want is this, an image in the side bar that is level to the title of the topic (DITA 1.2):So what I did was to create a corresponding paragraph style that is moved to the side bar (and the corresponding context rule in the EDD), and then insert an image with the placement set to "inline":The result, when opened in FM 2015, is displayed cropped:At first, I thought is was a simple formatting issue and that I would just need to fiddle around a bit. However, now I noticed that this is more a display error. When I select the anchored frame, open the frame properties and just click "Edit frame" without making any changes, the frame is displayed correctly (as in the first screenshot).The side bar images are also displayed cropped when I publish a PDF from the ditamap, so I really need to solve this, it is not just an annoyance during editing.Do you have any ideas, or an alternative solution for these side images?

Hello.I've just imported a ~150 topic help file into FrameMaker. Each topic is a separate .fm file (usually short) that starts with a Heading 1.I'd like to divide those .fm files into chapter segments, insert a chapter-title .fm at appropriate points, and print the resulting book file like a regular book. Hi,has anyone come across with this? A heading has a subscript character and when you generate a PDF, the TOC page has no link. Other TOC heading links work out just fine, but all these that have subscript, these do not.I have used Save As PDF and selected even create named destinations for all Paragraphs. Usually the TOC works fine even if that is not selected. A link with subscript does not work in either case.I appreciate any help with this, thanks
