Hi Scripters, I know from Russ Ward's samples how to delete an attribute value. But how do I delete the attribute itself from the element? The attribute is undefined in the document's EDD, that is, it shows as red in the structure view. FrameScript has a command for deleting an "undefined" attribute from an element, but I don't see a way to do this in ExtendScript. Any help will be appreciated. -Rick

I am using FM 11 and want to create a Card No. paragraph tag in the format 1-001. The first one will be a series and the 001 needs to be a three character numeric with leading zeroes. When I tried autonumber for <$99n+> I just got "<$99N+>. How can I make this autonumber work?

This is the error that I received everytime I have to save my graphic into PDF file. Any solution?

I know almost nothing about coding, but I need to edit XML files. When I open my XML files, I get the following error message, " validation of xml file failed adobe framemaker." Does anyone know how I can either resolve the problem or suppress the message and continue editing without it?

Hopefully my question is short and easy. I'm a developer and haven't used FrameMaker before. However for unforeseen reasons, I've inherited our technical help documentation constructed in FrameMaker which I've never used. Unfortunately I'm under a very tight deadline and I'm attempting to update our already existing and fairly extensive application help files. However, I'm getting a "Validation of XML file failed" error for 90% of our .xml help docs. I opened our .book file in FrameMaker fairly easily, and can see all of our .xml files. However the variables already embedded in the documents aren't being recognized and seem to be causing the above error. I've located our variable definition files (xml) in the concepts folder, but FrameMaker doesn't seem to recognize them. Any suggestions on what I can check or how I can get FM to refer to the variable definitions? I'm working with a new installation of FM, is there some setup I overlooked? Many thanks, dana.

We are using FrameMaker 10 in a Windows 7 environment.We use File > Import > File to bring graphics into our FrameMaker files.Apparently, when you import graphics like that, the default setting in FrameMaker is "Import By Reference."This default setting has created hours of rework for us, because we do not use linked graphics, and we do not automatically think of linked graphics when we import several graphics into FrameMaker files.  So, when someone else attempts to open the FrameMaker file, we see the error message that User A's FrameMaker cannot find the graphic that is on User B's hard drive.So, we have to stop work, and then have User B go into all of the graphics and manually change them to "Copy Into Document."This has happened many times.Is there some way to make the default setting for importing graphics: "Copy Into Document"?Thank you!Tim

Hi,I've had FM 2015 installed since last summer and have not had any problems with printing the book to a Postscript file. However,this is the first time I've tried to do so since upgrading to Windows 10 (a few days ago). I'm not doing anything differently from before. Prior to starting the print, I updated the book and didn't get any errors, the chapters open if I double-click on them from the book file, and the cross-references are all resolved. But as soon as I start printing, FM goes into "Not responding" mode, and then crashes.Another possible cause is that I also just installed Acrobat 2015 a couple of days ago. I don't know if the Adobe PDF virtual printer gets data from files associated with Acrobat, but if so, maybe a file is missing, or corrupted?I also looked at the Print Setup and nothing seemed unusual.Thanks,Joyce

Had problems with Adobe FrameMaker 7, then 11 for many years now. Each time I start dragging the cursor over a series of paragraphs, or holding the mouse button while selecting tracts too long, it stops responding. I put it down to incompatibility with Windows XP as per Troubleshoot system errors and freezes in FrameMaker 9 (Windows XP) . I also thought it could be my laptop or a corrupted file so installed FM time and again.  Two weeks ago, I upgraded my laptop to the latest Dell Precision 16 which came loaded with Windows 10. I also upgraded to Adobe FrameMaker 15. And voila.... THE SAME PROBLEM! Adobe FM15 also STOPS RESPONDING even with all these brand new investments. Watching the ever-turning wheel go round and round is very frustrating!!!!I was about to refer FrameMaker to other colleagues but this puts a stop to that unless maybe someone out there can provide a solution.Any ideas?

Yesterday I purchased and downloaded the Tech Comm Suite (upgrade with RoboHelp11). RH2015, Acrobat and FrameMaker all installed with no issues. However, I don't see Captivate and Presenter anywhere. My understanding is that they were supposed to be included as well. How do I get them?

How can I open or convert old v5.5 frame maker files on my Mac? I have heard this is possible but seem to be running into dead ends?

I'm suddenly unable to see some of the pods in FrameMaker 11. For example, the Variables pod. I tried View > Pods > Variables, Window > Panels > Variables, and Special > Variables, but nothing shows up. What am I missing?

Hi, I have a 7 page document, that should be 8 pages, but the text at the end of page 7 does not flow onto page 8.If I paste in the text, it get's squashed up at the end of page 7 instead of flow to the next page.Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

We have just upgraded from FM 11 to FM 2015. We write exclusively in structured mode and use Dita 1.2. Our graphics are about 90% in .png format.All of our graphics were correctly sized in FM 11, but after importing the files into FM 2015, they have lost all of their scaling. Not only that, but when we do scale them, they still take up three pages in the file: one for the title, one for the graphic, and one (just for good measure it seems) after the graphic.We could manually resize each one, but since there are over 900 of them, this will get monotonous, tedious, boring . . . time consuming.Why are they resizing, and what can we do about it?Joseph

When I upgrade FM 11 to 13, do I need to leave 11 on my computer? I'm having crashing issues in 13, but when I uninstalled 11, I lost my licensing for 13.

I'm trying to migrate legacy unstructured documentation to a structured format. That legacy documents contain a lot of discretionary hyphens. Those are written to XML as ordinary hyphens, which is terrible 😃 Is there a way to remove those at any stage? Maybe with conversion table, or EDD or read/write rules?Any help is appreciated, thanks!

FrameMaker 2015 trial version closes automatically when more than one FM file are opened at the same time.Could it be a trouble due to the trial version? We are not sure to buy two FM licenses if this problem persists in the complete FM 2015 version.Thanks a lot
