FrameMaker

Hello fellows.For some reason, when I paste a script that I wrote in a regular text editor to the FS Script window, I can't make any further changes to it in the Script window. The cursor just jumps to the 1st line and does not allow me to move to the relevant line. Any idea why this happens?Thank you in advance!

Hi All,I am new to the forum so please bear with me. I am a 'user' only of frame (being that am not overly experienced with all its features) and have been asked if we can create XML files from some FM10 files. I have tried the using the DITA options in the 'set structure options' and it works  but comes up with a long list of errors in the log of items that are unknown elements.But if I use the book options when i go to save it, it comes up with an error of Framemaker and shuts down. It does create the CSS but going into the XML file there is nothing there. What selection should I be choosing if I just want it to generic XML, or is that not an option?Are any of the later versions of Frame a better choice if I want to save as XML?Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.I know this is probably a very complex issue but am hoping it may be an easy fix.CheersJohn

Today, only fourteen months after placing the original order, End User Support showed up and let me run the FrameMaker 12 installer. Because I already have Acrobat X, I watched the dialogues very carefully for any sign of a [ ] do not install PDF Creator and saw nothing. Following advice in an earlier thread, I also took a look at the Control Panel: no PDF Creator listed there.Then I tried Save as .pdf – failed, with the message Could not open the file {name of source file}.LOGAny ideas on what's wrong? permissions? but I can open an editor and save a text file to the location where Acrobat says the .log cannot be saved.Thanks in advance for any help! Hi, I'm a newbie to FrameMaker, and I'm learning the 2015 version. I've just been learning about using conditional text, but all the information so far has been about individual documents, not about whole books. So I'm wondering:1. Is there a way to globally create a condition tag that can be used in all the documents in a book?2. If the answer to 1 is No, then is there a way to manually copy the condition tags from one document to another?3. Is it possible to change the Show/Hide Conditional Text settings globally for all the documents in a book?Thanks for any suggestions!Joseph

Or, how could I convert mif 2015 or mif 7.0 to mif 12.0 if there is no possibility to save it in this format.

In FrameMaker's Color Definitions dialog box, if you choose Print As: Tint, the Tint slider goes from zero to 100%. However, it is possible to type in a percentage for the tint that is more than 100%, for example 120%, and FrameMaker let's you save the Tint. Is this a bug in the program?

I am unable to create a document is more than 99 pages and I am unable to edit variables. I was previously using a Trial version of FrameMaker, but received my Enterprise account today. I have played around with numbering in different chapters and each time numbering ends after page 99. I had similar issues in the Trial version, but now I am running a licensed  version. It could be a verification issues as they used a generic account instead of my personal account.

Is there a way to share a custom FrameMaker workspace with another computer? Is the workspace saved as a file somewhere that could be given to another user?

Hi,I use FM12. I want to preserve empty lines ( and more linebreaks [shift + return] between code text ).If FM12 import my XML file, additional line breaks will be deleted. In the Read/Write rules I've placed a statement element "Code" {      reader line break is forced return }didn't work for me. In the FM Help Files I've found the following hint : "place a attribute xml:space="preserve" at the element ..."My Question: Where should I place this attribute? 1.) in the DTD file? 2.) in the EDD file?3.) in the Read/Write Rules? 4.) in an additional configuration file? Hi,When saving as MIF on Windows, network UNC paths to images are saved with the code <h\>, like this:<ImportObFileDI `<h\>my.network.se<c\>Customers<c\>temp<c\>Logo.eps'><ImportObFile `//my.network.se/Customers/Temp/Logo.eps'>The MIF reference refers to the device-independent path code <h\> as "Host (Apollo only)". (What does Apollo only mean – this is on Windows, and the code is written by FrameMaker2015, using Save As)The ImportObFileDI line seems to be required in order to get network UNC paths to work from MIF. If I exclude ImportObFileDI line, and only keep the ImportObFile line...   <ImportObFile `//my.network.se/Customers/Temp/Logo.eps'>... then the file is not found when opening the MIF file in FrameMaker. FrameMaker says Missing file Looking for: \my.network.se\Customers\Temp\Logo.eps That is with a single backslash in the beginning of the path. Why is it not two backslashes? I have two (front)slash in the MIF code –

I need the SVG to output with the Pantone color infromation retained. Images are 2 color, black and a pantone. Everytime I export or print to pdf the files are rasterized and converted. Pdf options are extremely limited from what I can see with Framemaker, but is there a different means of output that would solve my issue? Thanks.

When my laptop is docked, I work on two monitors, and when it is undocked I work on the laptop monitor alone.Here is my situation:Setup: FrameMaker 12 running in Windows 10.I need to bring up the Customize Text Frame... pop-up window to reformat the text frame in a master page. I control-click on the frame, then go to Format -> Customize Layout -> Cusomize Text Frame ...The mouse turns white and I don't see the pop-up window. The main framemaker window becomes unresponsive, indicating that another window is active and has the focus now, but I don't see this window, even if I resize the main window of framemaker, so I'm thinking that the Customize Text Frame window wants to be displayed on a non-existent monitor; a common occurrence after a crash.Is there a way to reset the location of these windows in FrameMaker? Is there an .ini file I could edit for this purpose?I hope this all make sense!Thanks for any suggestions you guys might have.

table formatting (custom ruling and shading is ineffective with table conntinuation variable?)

In FM 2015,When I create a new paragraph format, FrameMaker starts giving error messages "Couldn't find tag: paragraph-format" whenever I select in a paragraph with that format. This does not happen in FM 12.To Repro:1) File > New > Document > Portrait.2) Enter a few lines of text pressing Enter (new paragraph) at the end of each line.3) Select any paragraph, Bring up Paragraph Designer.4) Click in "Commands:" menu; Select "New Format..."5) Enter the name "test". (All check boxes are selected.) Press Enter.Whenever you click in the paragraph you get the error message. The message also pops up if you click the new format in the Paragraph Format Catalog. The new format is clearly in the catalog and Paragraph Designer works correctly. That is, it shows the new format name and you can change formatting and apply.Does anybody know what is going on? Maybe I'm not understanding something.Note: File > Save As to MIF and re-opening that MIF file seems to fix it.Edit: A work around:

Hey gang,In FM11, is there a way to turn off automatic parentheses when editing equations?  I know that FM automatically checks the equations and breaks them into chunks it can understand; I just don't want that to happen until I tell it to.  Adding parentheses when I didn't tell it to does nothing but break my workflow, because now I have to go back and remove all of the parentheses from a statement and then put the ones I want back in their respective place(s).  My most common thought when working with FM equations is, "Did I tell you to put that there?  Then WHY DID YOU PUT IT THERE??"Any help is sincerely appreciated.-terry-

I've just upgraded a number of documents from FM8 to FM10.My body paragraph style has the following paginationsettings:Start: AnywhereKeep with Next and Previous: Not selectedWidow/Orphan Lines: 2In FM8, these settings work as expected - there are a minimum of two lines of text if a paragraph breaks across a page boundary. A three-line paragaph is never broken. This behavior is the same in FM9.In FM10, I get single-line widows - a single line appearing at the top of a page. I have experimented and do not get single-line orphans - a single line at the bottom of a page.This behavior is not what I want - it changes my pagination and looks ugly.If I start a new paragraph after the widowed line, a second line pops up from the body paragraph on the previous page, which is the appearance I want. Hi,I'm using Structured FrameMaker 12 (XML). I have customized my quick_element.xml toolbar file to create icons that insert custom elements into my documents. This works great. I really need to extend this toolbar so that the icons insert an element with a specified attribute setting. This would save massive amounts of clicks (I know this is possible for keyboard shortcuts via extendscript). Hi guys, I'm stumped by the following situation:The header of my documents contain the variable: Running H/F 1 which uses <$paratext[01 - Chap Title]> to insert the chapter name.My issue: The first letter of the chapter title is in a different font than the rest of the title as in the image below:The header shows as follows: As you can see from the second image, the "B" of "Broken" shows in a different font than the rest of the text, namely it is still set in the character tag that I used to display it differently in the title.I would like this "B" to be displayed in the standard header font. I tried to insert the variable <Header> in front of <$paratext[01 - Chap Title]>, but Frame Maker ignored it. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.Thanks,

Hi all, I'm in the last stages of submitting my FrameMaker reference book to the printer, and just ran into a "stopper"Anyone who can solve this will get a free EPUB of the book (already produced, details at http://www.techcommtools.com/framemaker-reference-book/)A funny (actually, not funny at all) thing started happening yesterday...When opening any existing projects, I'm unable to use the Save As function.New files seem unaffected, but existing documents are treated differently.The issue popped up after a Open All Files in Book crashed my computer.Has anyone else seen this, or know how to fix it?
