FrameMaker

I'm using FrameMaker 12 for the first time (have used other versions in the past). On the right master page, I hit Tab twice, and inserted two variables into the footer. On the Body pages, the text is cut off on the right. To fix it, I had to delete the center-aligned tab on the master page, leaving only the right aligned tab. That shouldn't have been necessary. Why did the text aligned to the right-align tab stop get cut off?

Hello All,With Adobe Framemaker XI, We could use Adobe Application Manager Enterprise Edition v3.1 to embed the serial number and pre-validate the sign-in option. An MSI was generated, and then an automatic installation could be performed, for enterprise deployments for example.It seems Adobe Application manager v3.1 is not working with Adobe Framemaker 12.Is there any way to create a customized installation package, or any command line to use?Thanks in advance,YannD.

Hey gang,I've got a table that requires multiple tab stops in one table cell.  They're easy enough to place--I use the Tab Stops segment in Paragraph Designer--but I cannot move back and forth between the tabs. Each tab stop must be numbered.  For example, I inserted seven tab stops in the cell.  Is there a way to step through the tab stops without leaving the cell?  Thanks in advance!-terry-

I recently installed Technical Suite 5 on my system. I was able to successfully uninstall Technical Suite 4, but when I went to uninstall Technical Suite 3, I got an error message. "Your uninstallation encountered errors. Please try restarting your computer and uninstall again. If that does not resolve the problem, download and run the Adobe Creative Suite CLeaner Tool.Well, I restarted and still had the error. Downloading the Creative Suite Cleaner tool did not help because it cannot find Creative Suite. I am trying to uninstall TECHNICAL suite. Apparently there is no tool for that.The problem I have (besides the fact that TechSuite 3 is almost 5 GB in size) is that Frame 10 keeps hijacking my default opening app. No matter how many times I tell the computer to use Frame 12, every time I restart it defaults back to Frame 10. It's annoying.Does anyone know how to uninstall Technical Suite 3 if the Control panel will not work? For the record, I cannot uninstall the apps individualy beca

I need to use the "read from file" pagination option for a book I'm generating using xml files, but that option is greyed out! How do I make that option available?

I'm using Frame 12.0.2.389.  I'm using the same font resources that worked for Frame 9, where I had no problems.For example, I use Ohm for electrical resistance. Normally, I type a W, select it, and assign the Symbol font.  Now, it appears as "?".  All characters in the symbol font show the same result.There are no missing font alerts when I open files.  The Font pod shows the Symbol font is installed/available. I am authoring in Frame 12 and using the Publish command to make HTML Help (CHM files).To create hyperlinks, I format some text in FrameMaker with a character style, them add a Marker of type "Hypertext" to the text, using the marker text:message URL http://www.address.com/" target="_blank(sic! note the odd space after the first quote mark..... this syntax isn't documented by Adobe AFAIK, someone on these forums told me it in the past.)This creates a hyperlink in the CHM that opens in a new Help viewer pane .... but really, what I want to do is open the link in a new browser pane (whatever the user's default web browser is).Is there a syntax to do that?

I am considering using framemaker 11 as my main documentation tool, and RoboHelp 10 as my Publishing tool. What is the proper way to import a Visio drawing (.vsd) into Framemaker?  I tried the following steps:1. Select File > Import > Object.2. Select the Create from File radio button.3. Go to the graphics directory and select the image.6. Select the Link check box.7. Click OK.But after importing the FM file into Robohelp, RH could not recognize the image. Is there any way to display Visio-embedded FM file in Robohelp properly?

If a reviewer adds a comment to the PDF, and the author deletes the paragraph in the FrameMaker file that the reviewer is commenting on -- what happens to that comment and how is it displayed when it is imported into the revised FrameMaker document?

Seems to me that EDD is a huge document to find anything in. Does one just add elements in alphabetical order so they can be rediscovered? Any tips or tricks about organizing this?I'm in the analysis/design phase of going through my unstructured document to see how to build an EDD. Does one do the analysis using a spreadsheet?Thanks for ideas.

Hi all,I am creating an installer for my scripts and need to get an istall directory from the customer. It seems that ChooseFile ( ) with the ChooseOpenDir parameter is exactly what I need. But this does not work: there is no dialog and the return value is always null. Does anyone else experience this? Is this a bug in FM or just something wrong in my FM installation? I am running FM 12.0.0.308 on Windows 7.CiaoJang

I am evaluating Structured Framemaker 12 using DITA. I have placed a cross reference to several tables in my topics and want to reference them from the paragraph text e.g. Table 1, Table 2, etc. The Format Options I see are for DITA Default Format or for Figures (Figure, See_Figure, See_Title_and_Page, Title_and_Page) - none of which work. Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong or missing?

Hello all. I am hoping someone can help me here. I cannot find anything about my issue. I recently purchased FrameMaker 12 and the Entire Technical Communicators Suite for a user at my company. It worked for about a month without issue. Then one day, he comes in and the application FrameMaker will not start. It goes through the entire splash screen, then it halts with the following error:Internal Error 12004, 21624148, 21624442, 24554677. FrameMaker has detected a serious problem and must quit.A file named "C:\Users\joseph.kover\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\12\FrameLog_14.08.13_13.0.4.59.txt" has been generated which contains information that may help Frame development improve the product for future releases.Then it gives information on how to contact Adobe, blah blah blah.I have already tried uninstalling the whole suite. rebooting. then re-installing the whole suite.The operating system is Windows 7 SP1 64bit.Please help, anyone???!  We cannot even use the application at all

In FrameMaker 11 it was possible to use the quick Element Catalog to select a Hierachical element. For example, from the Quick Element Catalog I could highlight ItemizedList, then to the right the child elements would appear as I moused over it and I could then select ListItem, and then Para. Clicking the hierarchical Para element would insert Para, ListIem, and ItemizedList elements in the proper nested order.In FrameMaker 12 I cannot do this. I'd like to change Frame's default behaviour when IFile > New > Document > PortraitNow the document it produces does not have smart spaces turned on and I would like to change that.In Frame help, it says Change templates for blank paper and text filesMy system has choices Portrait, Landscape and Custom. None is called "blank paper" or "text". So, what do I choose?The online help also saysNote:  You can change the filename that FrameMaker looks for when it creates a blank paper document or opens a text file.It does not say where to do that.Thanks for any clarity you can create.

We have a process for typesetting large amounts of text which involves importing SGML content into FM11, and then importing formats and element definitions onto that content.We recently upgraded from using FM6, and with that previous version of FrameMaker, when the content contained an unusual entity (e.g. a letter i with a macron above it), the system would default to using a different font in which we had the correct symbol for the entity. I have tried to install TC5 onto my mack using Crossover install. I am not optimistic as crossover doesn't list TC5. Do I have to install a VM to get round this and if so, what do you recommend?Ian

We meet a strange bug when we processing a document recently.For example, one paragraph have 3 lines, 2 lines are in the page 1, and the last line is in the page 2. So we set the Widow/Orphan Lines to 2, and click Apply, then the whole paragraph will move to page 2.But after we saving this file, close it and open it again, the first 2 lines move to page 1 again automatically. The setting in the Widow/Orphan Lines is still 2, but we must click Apply again, the whole paragraph then will move to page 2.We have tried it many times, every time when we close and reopen the file, the pagination will be changed automatically.BTW, it's FM 10. Anyone have meet the same bug before?

I want to start a very simple structured Framemaker file, so I can see how it works.If I select File > New > Explore Structured Templates > Book > Chapterand I save that file as Chapter,1. WHERE do I get the EDD from?The Chapter will compile as an epub.

Hi Frame users and DITA enthusiastsI would like to ask for your opinions when publishing DITA content to PDF, either with DITA-OT or Adobe PDF.This is my first DITA Project and I been testing and playing around with both options but feeling stuck as I can't decide which option to go with.Both the DITA-OT or Save as PDF will require some modifications, so I rather do things the hard way, then having to go back and create a new publishing template later.Thanks and best regards

My computer was upgraded before I was able to deactivate my Framemaker 10 license. Now I get the above error whenever I try and start Frame. Is there a way to fix this?

I'd like to set the background color of running headers and footers, based on an attribute from an element in my imported XML-file.Basically what I want is to have different colors of headers or footers for different chapters in the book (catalogue).Is there any way to do formatting like this from the EDD or rules?
