FrameMaker

When using the paragraph designer to insert a frame with reference graphics it works out great when generating a PDF. But when publishing to html5 it just adds space - ie the size of the frame - and the graphic is missing.Is this related to editing the publishing preferences?Has it something to do with the image file/format? Does it have to have a generated version of itself for the html-code to reference? How would that be accomplished?Is it a feature that has yet to be implemented?Please help out, as I have quite a lot of material that needs sorting out in about a weeks time.regardsFrederic

Hi, I am working with a project that needs to highlight certain word or phrases with different colours. I use the background colour option to do this, but when making a pdf, the colour disappears. How do I get this to work? FM10 unstructured.JW

Master pages went missing from my FrameMaker 12 setup about 4 days ago. I can see body and references pages. I have tried reinstalling. The master pages are missing from all of my FrameMaker documents, absolutely all of them. I have done two new installations of FM 12, no fix.

FM12: From the Show/Hide Conditional Text pod, Show as per Condition applied to entire book does not consistently update book with correct condition. Now to get the desired condition, I have to apply the condition per section in the book. Has the workflow for this feature changed with FM12? Or is it a bug? Thanks, Patti

Using FM10 ....I clicked Format > Page Layout > Pagination (on a file in the bookfile, not with the file open) because I want to set pagination to "Next Available" and "Delete Empty Pages".But when I click Set, FM pops up a warning:     The new column layout in xyz.fm seems to overlap with other objects on the Left and RIght master pages. Are you sure you want to do this?What is it trying to tell me? Thanks.

Does anyone have experience in tracking the status messages for an XML export from within ExtendScript ? One of my scripts publishes a book and all its chapters to XML and needs to report on possible errors that occurred. The export also includes running an XSLT for post processing. I can see the status messages in the console panel but I need to know the status from within the script, so that it can handle possible error situations elegantly.CiaoJang

We are using FrameMaker 12 (unstructured) on a Windows 7 platform (64 bit).I have the following anchored frame and paragraphs that together form a block of conditional text:Small icon graphic in an anchored frame aligned to left margin.Body Text paragraph (this text runs around the small icon graphic)Body Text paragraph (this text is below the small icon graphic, aligned to the left margin)1. Has anyone seen where conditional text is turned invisible (or white, perhaps) when displaying conditional indicators?Settings for the 2 tags in question are red/strikethrough, and green/underline.MIF wash yielded no improvement, and I've tested on 2 different computers.-Matt

Evening all -this is by no means the first time I'm banged my head against the colour management brick wall, and I doubt it will be the last I am running Frame 12 and Illustrator CC on Windows 7.Both these Adobe products ship bundled with Pantone libraries. (Correct me with I'm wrong, but these "libraries" are basically a bunch of look-up tables, mapping named Pantone colours to various CYMK, RGB, etc equivalents?)Can anyone tell me why these two different Adobe applications appear to give different definitions for the same Pantone colours?For example, if I choose the Pantone Coated library > 'Warm Red'In Illustrator CC (left screenshot), it offers this as C0% M87.4% Y79.9% K0%in FrameMaker 12 (right screenshot), I get C0% M79%  Y91%  K0%Why are they different?Are the library definitions shipped with the products simply different?Frame's dialog ominously mentions "© Pantone, Inc., 1986, 1988"And if I go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker12\fminit\color and op

I'm interested in learning from Adobe or experienced users about best practices to follow (or references worth reading) about translating FrameMaker publications.

I've created a book with 2 files - the pages in the first file are 8.5 x 11, the pages in the second file are 8.5 x 14.How can I save the book as a PDF but keep both page sizes? Right now if I change the page size in the PDF settings dialog, it changes all pages.Thanks.

My FM12 is running on a VM with Windows 7 and 6Gb of Memory - it's a pretty large book, 750+ pages. When I get more than 700 files open, it crashes. Then it will crash while numbering.What should be a straight forward publishing of the book is taking two days due to crashes. I have to save the files after I open a batch and apply numbering or I lose the entire book.Also, when I select a few files in a folder, FM opens the entire folder of files which is really weird.It's version 12.0.2.89

I am working in FM11 and found my 494 pg PDF has 3 pages that needed replacing. I made the fix in FM and wanted to PDF just the chapter with the updated pages and drag them into the original PDF. Thanks.

I have used Framemaker 6 to produce and publish a few guidebooks. I would like to take the most recent book from this year and make available an eBook version for Kindle.My book is about 400 pages and has many maps, photographs, and tables. I doubt running the PDF thru any of the tools like Kindle Direst Publishing (KDP) will produce output acceptable to me.My questions:1. Does FM 12 do a good job of importing an FM 6 book source?2. Would you recommend this as the best path to do produce a quality eBook?PaulF

I am writing a course book, in which I added Learning Goals in each chapter. I would like to automatically summarize these learning goals in the preface, as an extra TOC (or Index?).As far as I know a mini-TOC is only able to generate content out of the chapter (file) it is placed in.Is there a way for me to generate this list of goals, apart from manually add each goal as an cross reference?Thanks!

Dear All,My questions concerns the use of FM11 & FM12 in Structured FrameMaker mode under Windows 8.1.When FM is started in Structured mode I find that the FrameMaker window is a fraction of the size that it was when operating in Unstructured mode. When the FM (structured) window is maximized instead of the window occupying the full screen as expected it occupies only about 2/3 of the screen. The receptors of dialog buttons (e.g. the OK and CANCEL buttons) are not at the locations of the on screen drawings of the buttons. In short, the Structured FrameMaker interface is not functional. And to be clear the interface of the Unstructured version of the program works in the expected manner.My reason for operating with Structured FrameMaker in the first place is to workaround a very serious deficiency in the Unstructured version of the program in which attempting to print a book to the Adobe PDF virtual printer causes FrameMaker to crash. We are using FrameMaker 12 on a Windows 7 (64 bit) platform.I am working my way down a chapter of training content. I am halfway down the chapter, and—as fate would have it—I need to start a table at the top of a page.When I insert a table (with a caption/title at the top), FM creates an anchor at the top of the page. The space to the right of the anchor is a blank line.  I actually want the table to start at the top of the page without the blank line to the right of the anchor.This is what I tried, with the results:I put the cursor after the anchor, and press Delete.Result: The text *below* the table is brought up above the table.I put the cursor after the last bit of text on the previous page, and press Delete.Result: The paragraph on the previous page moves down to the next page on top of the table, leaving a large blank space on the previous page.I change the Start option (on Table Designer) to Top of Column (or Top of Page).Result: FM leaves the anchor where it was, moves the
