Hi all,when I create a new mapping group in the DITA options menu, in which file is it stored?I need to tranfer a mapping group to other computers. Also I found that I cannot edit or delete individual entries in the mappung group (the button "edit" is always greyed out) and hope to be able to do so directly in the corresponding file.Robert

I am working on a book for our department. One of the documents has checklists for each group within our department. The checklists are made from tables which typically extend over 2 or more pages. My boss decided he wanted the subsequent pages of each checklist to say "Continued" at the top of the page (between the header and the table with the checklist). I am not proficient enough in FrameMaker to figure this out and I only use it once per year when we revise our books (in-house department manuals). I tried adding it to the master page but that didn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a large table that crosses over to a second page.  I would like the column headings to be displayed on the second page.  Is this possible and how to do it?

Hi,I looked through several discussions of variables but did not find what I was looking for. I wanted a page # variable for the front matter and then a page # of # for the rest of the manual.Framemaker 7.0 defines 12 running H/F system variables plus a few others for page numbers but you are limited as to how you can edit them. For example, I was trying to make a variable that displayed current page only. None of the running H/F variables offers a building block called <$curpagenum>. I have a system variable called Current Page # and I was able to edit it down to just the Page #. I also have two other variables called Page x of x and Page xxx of xxx but they act like user variables. Any editing of their building blocks screws them up. Plus I don't know where they came from, unless from the original installation.Any suggestions?Yours,Michael F=========

We are attempting to script the loading of an XML file into FrameMaker binary files and subsequent processing.  Our structured appplication read/write rules specify the component names, but FrameMaker always prompts for the book file name.  Is there a way via a notify event (FA_Note_PreOpenXML or FA_Note_PostOpenXML), or opening the XML file using a property, that the book file name can be set?  Or do we have to to bypass the read/write rules and create the components manually?JonEnvironment- Windows 7 SP1- FrameMaker 11- Custom XML structured application

I've tried to get the embedded videos in the Frame 12 Server documentation (e.g., "Getting Started Guid") to work under multiple browsers to no effect.  Clicking on them results in nothing happening.  Here's my case in point:  Quite a pity since the docs seem to be entirely dependent on these videos contextually.  Any suggestions?Thanks,Al

I am writing a structured FM file to XML and then processing it into HTML using XSLT. Writing the file to XML works OK but I cannot get rid of the PIs that FrameMaker puts in the text for all kinds of things (such as conditional text). I have created elements for all the markers I need and want to get rid of any remaining PIs. Is there a way to tell FM about this in the read-write rules?Thanks for pointing me to the useful source of information about this. I have FrameMaker 10.  I want to improve the quality of the arrows in my documents. I want to have black arrows with a white outline, so that they are clearly visible on a variety of different backgrounds. I know this is possible in InDesign. Can something similar be done in FrameMaker?  Is there any add-on program that can facilitate this?

What's the best way to make sure an FDK (Patternstream in our case) fires up with every job on Framemaker Server 12, and how do you pass parameters (e.g., the name of the pset file to work with?)   We can delve into C++ etc. if we have to, but I'm hoping this can be handled with Framescript or Extendscript.   Thanks in advance.

I have asked a little about this before. We want to use FM to produce a parts catalog. After some reading, Icame about the Pattern Stream Automated Publishing product. It looks pretty impressive, especially since I don'tdo scripts.....ect. We use Access as our data base and this looks like a good tool...course I am sure a majorlearning curve.Has anyone used it? If so, how hard is it to learn? The catalog I read, of course didn't look to bad, but you never know.Thanks!ls

I understand how to insert training videos into FrameMaker 12. However, all of our training content is housed in FrameMaker. How can I export this content to Captivate to add assessments, quizzes, etc.?

My computer has crashed so I have to reinstall my faihtful FM10. It works OK but when I start it I get the message LICENSING FOR THIS PRODUCT HAS EXPIRED. I seem to recollect that a couple of years ago I installed a patch to fix that. Where can I find it?

This another question that comes up in my evaluation of XML Author. If I want to resolve topicrefs in a ditamap, the documentation and videos tell me to select a topicref in the Document View and then click DITA > Resolve Topicref(s). However DITA > Resolve Topicref(s) is greyed out. Only valid in full FrameMaker? Not available in evaluation copy? Silly user error?Has anyone gotten this to work as described?

I have tried notification and decided there are too many problems with it. But no matter what I do now, the Console keeps showing the same notification error with every file I open. I had a notification on the File Open event, but that script file is gone. How do I tell FM to just forget about any notifications that require an ExtendScript file? Or is FM going to nag me about this until the end of time? Is there some kind of overview of active notifications, which preferably also allows me to disable them for particular clients?Kind regardsJang

Hi allI want the headers in all my books to reflect the guide of which they are part, ie to automatically pick up the "ManualTitle" style used in the first file in the book.Is there any way to do this?For example, I have running footers which pick up Heading1 styles - but these are all within the same file.I'm using Frame 12 btw. Hi,I am new to FrameMaker, when trying to generate a pdf document from a FrameMaker book using FDK, the size of the pdf file created is big when compared to the pdf created using “Save As PDF” from FrameMaker. I have tried setting Named Destinations to false and also “PDF Job Options” to “Smallest File Size”. I've been evaluating XML Author and am trying to determine how to use ditaval files with it. If I want to save a ditamap as a book for PDF creation, the Prompt for DitaVal File check box is greyed out. Does anyone know why this might be the case? Is the use of ditavals limited to a full implementation of FrameMaker?I tried adding PromptForDitaval=1 to the [General] section of the ditafm.ini file to no avail.

How to open the file in FM when I get the error message: "it can't be opened with this release of the product"? Even though I try to open the FM 9 file with FM 9.

Hi. I'm using unstructured FrameMaker version 11.0.2.384. It has been a long time since I've used FrameMaker and I'm just starting a new project in it. It seems as though the sensitivity level of the Smart Select functionality is very different in FrameMaker 11. When I try to select text to apply a character tag to it, the Smart Select tool keeps changing to the Select Object tool, even though I'm in the middle of paragraphs of text and am trying to avoid hovering anywhere near anything that would trigger this. I don't remember it being this "sensitive" (eager to turn into the Select Object tool) in the past. It happens regardless of which mouse I'm using (I tried adjusting my mouse settings as well). It's really slowing down my work because I can't easily apply character or paragraph tags. As I start to attempt to select text, it grabs surrounding text and has a natural inclination to move it around instead of just letting my highlight it. Forgive my ignorance if this is a mouse setti

Document covers assigned Right side, have all translated to first page left side in the PDF conversion.Save as PDFSave Book Asreset my PDF settingsand it won't print to PDF, crashed the system every time, so nothing going there.Each document set up, recognizing that all chapters start on the right, including the cover.  Formatting in document and book.This is a new problem, I don't know what happended, but making the starts on the left, throws off the entire technical document.  The documents are correct in FM, just not converting properly.Please help.I can't seem to fixe it from Acrobat Pro 9, or from within FrameMaker11This is highly frustrating.Thank you for any and all input.A
