I want to put a heading in my documents: "Date Document Produced" and have it automatically show the current date. I've looked in Help and searched the Forums, so perhaps I'm searching under the wrong terminology. I would call it "insert a field" as in Word, or "add an automatic date."
Hi allDo you know if there is any possibility in the automatic numbering of paragraphs to automattically make 10er steps. Like:2.102.202.302.40I have only found the <n+> function but not any function like <n+x> and <n= X> but the latter is no help as I have over 100 paragraphs like that.Thank you
Hi all,out of the box, when I insert an image in a paragraph (DITA 1.2) then FrameMaker 12 uses the "below line" display setting. I need to display it inline, at the insertion point. When I adjust the settings of the anchored frame then the inline setting is lost when saving the XML file. So evidently I need to adjust the R/W rules.I tried to add a corresponding inline rule but had no success so far, does anybody know what needs to be done? It seems like a quite common requirement to display images inline.Robert
Hi all,in the DITA EDD the fm-xref element does not suport any formatting in itself it seems. Thus we use the crossref-definitions in the Framemaker template to apply a chracter style (simple underlined blue). However, if you insert a crossref that contains a text string as anchor (e.g. "For more information, click here.") then it is not possible to apply a formatting. How can such a crossref be formatted? Does the EDD offer any possibilities?Robert
New installation of FM11 on a 64 bit Windows OS. Launching the AdobePatchInstaller.exe results in an "Update Failed" message.
(In which forum does this question belong?)(FM11 with the EMC Documentum connector.)I understand that the EMC Documentum connector to FM11 creates the "virtual document" resource in Documentum from a FM book and its dependent files. The creation of the virtual document happens when the book is first uploaded from FM11 through the CMS interface to Documentum. That works for me.How do I add referenced graphics to, or remove referenced graphics from, a chapter of the book so that the virtual document resource is automatically updated during check-in, check-out, or when I click on a control (that I don't see in the interface) ?Will a workflow cause the EMC Documentum interface do that?Or do I need to perform all additions to and deletions from the virtual document through, as an example, the Webtop interface?BackstoryFrom work of a colleague last year, I inherited a book with referenced graphics. The book and all of its chapter files reside in Documentum. A Documentum "virtual document" reso
Can someone please tell me if there is a way to find the path (folder structure) of the linked image in FrameMaker 9? In the Object Properties all I get to see is ...\...\ and the image file name. I have 4 books with over 300 images to link as the books are moved from another machine. If I get to know the folder structure I can create a similar one and leave the images there so that they will automatically appear in the .fm file.
Spellchecker in FM12 does not find multiple spaces, the word "adn", accept possesives such as "John's" and more. When is a fix expected?

I'm writing a document where my Heading 1 has roman numerals (I,II,III,etc.), Heading is uppercase letters (A, B, C, etc) and Heading 3 is not numbered. Under each heading 3, there are numbered lists (1,2,3,etc).My problem is that the second instance of my Heading 2 (which is supposed to be B) is coming out as D. I noticed that putting in steps 1 and 2 after my first Heading 3 caused this to happen. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
My issue is that when I open an XML file in FrameMaker, the formatting is not using my application that I set up. I'm not sure where this is controlled. This is what I did. I made a copy of the Structure\xml\DITA folder to create Structure\xml\MyDITA. I converted my documents to DITA and updated the application template and EDD (formatting only) in MyDITA folder. I did not touch the DTD.When I save my file as XML I get no errors, but when I open the XML in FM, the formatting is not using my template in MyDITA application. When I open the XML file in FM and selected StructureTools > Set Structured Application and it is set to DITA_1.2_topic. When I set it to MyDITA it has no effect on the formatting. What is controlling which application to use when the XML file is opened? I have a custom XML application that works just fine. The Doctype in my XML file is:<!DOCTYPE topic PUBLIC "-//OASIS//DTD DITA Topic//EN" "topic.dtd"I hope this is an easy question to answer. Thanks!Karene
I am trying to draft a requirements document that has an inline tag offset by brackets for every requirement listed. I would then like to generate a table of contents to keep track of the locations of these tags within the document. (I know tag and bookmark are not the correct terms for this, but I can't think of a better one)The format should be something like this:The software package shall [SRD_XXXX] be verified by the operator. Where the "SRD_" is the label and "XXXX" is an auto-incrementing numeric value assigned to this requirement.
Though I don't write scripts myself, I was happy when Adobe announced that ExtendScript capability would be added to FrameMaker. I thought that users would write scripts to enhance FrameMaker's capability and share them with the community-- either as free or for-sale scripts. I'm surprised that I have not seen that happen.Perhaps some of you have developed scripts that you would be willing to give away or sell. If so, perhaps you could start listing them in this message thread.
Hi,I am new to structured FM and was trying to migrate a few unstructured FM documents to structured using the "conversion table". After generating the conversion table, I am not able to create a proper heirarchy (nesting) of the elements. Could any one help me with the basics of 'element nesting'. I read the documentation provided by Adobe and tried to do it, but without much success. The generated conversion table is given below.Regards,Radhin
For awhile, as I developed a script, the "tools palette" window that it creates stayed in front of the main doc window. Somehow it changed behavior, and how hides behind the main doc window whenever I click in the document. I want the tools to stay in front, but I can't find any window property to help with this.
I am importing PSD files into Framemaker 11 and they keep giving me a vertical line on the right side of some images. I already know that other image file formats don't cause this, but I prefer the practicality of PSD files and not having to deal with duplicate files of the same image. I figured that native Adobe files that are supposed to be cross platform compatible should work without any issues. I get lines when converting to PDF documents and when I print them out also. I’m getting ready to publish our catalog and would like to prevent the printer from cleaning them up again. Does anyone know how to fix it or if Adobe is currently addressing this issue ? Who can I contact to let them know about the issue, since it has been around from the time Frame started accepting PSD files? Thanks,Tomas
Hello,I'm working on some legacy content using Framemaker 8 p266. Every time I create a PDF, I get duplicate bookmarks. The first set is wrong, and the second set is formatted correctly and contains the right content. For example, it basically looks like the PDF is grabbing all of the content from the Table of Contents page, and then listing the correct bookmarks (Section title, heading 1) after that. I'm creating my PDF using the Save As PDF option. In the PDF Setup for Selected Files dialog, I do have the Generate PDF Booksmarks option enabled, "Bookmarks Expanded Through Level" is set to None, and in the Include Paragraphs field I have Appendix Title, Head 1, and Section Title.I'm using Adobe Distiller XI, maybe that's my problem.Any ideas? I would appreciate it.Susan
When installing my product, an error message came up. I was alerted to call the vendor. Please advise
How do I fix Warning: Distiller's scratch volume is nearly full? I'm using FrameMaker 11 on a Windows 7 Professional os. I was running a script to create a document abstract. The script appears to be hung right now. Thanks and regardsRoxanne
Hi all, currently I am trying to format the DITA <lq> element (long quote) to display a line above and below its content. For the line below I have tried to use a suffix rule in the EDD. I can assign any text and character formatting below the long quote without problems, but Framemaker ignores any imaged frames that I define there. The EDD does not allow the definition of a frame directly in the suffix rule, so I am using a format change list. This is the suffix rule in the <lq> element. It refers to the format chanhe list "line_below" (the EDD language is German):This is the corresponding format change list that defines a frame below. If I define any other formatting in the format change list such as red text color there are no problems at all, only the image frames are ignored.Does anybody have an idea how to solve this?Robert
How do you apply a master page to multiple documents at the same time?
The updates... menu is grayed out for all applications that are part of this suit. I know that FrameMaker (FM) 11.0 has updates that should be installed. I have downloaded a patch (11_0_1) for FM and it will not install. I get this message:I have Admin rights on the computer and have selected Run As Admin.. when I attemp to install the patch.I have TCS 3.5 also loaded and do not have any issues with loading updates.OS: Windows 7Any ideas as to why I can not install updates for the applications that are part of TCS 4?
I have some long URLs, and I want to keep the whole url together so that it doesn't break from one line to the next. Is that possible?
Hi,I try to load an XML document using a structured application defined in the default structapps.fmMy code is shown down, extracted from the FDK API code sample.Problem, I always have the same message :"Cannot find the file named e:\xml\AdobeFrameMaker10\file. Make sure that the file exists. "Where "e:\xml\AdobeFrameMaker10\" is my install directory. So I assume that frame try to find the structapps.fm file but does not find it.What else can it be ?Does anyone knowns how to achieve this simple task using extendScript ?Thanks for any comments, Pierrefunction openXMLFile(myLastFile) { var filename = myLastFile.openDlg("Choose XML file ...", "*.xml", false); if (filename != null) { /* Get default open properties. Return if it can’t be allocated. */ var params = GetOpenDefaultParams(); &n
Hi,FM12.0.0.329, Win7This question has been asked in various permutations with little successs, but let me try again. I need to find a way to disable the Console panel, which pops up every time I open an XML document with a message similar to the following:XML Read Report LogSource Document: C:\documentation_test\common\modules\test_ipeth_ping.xmlXSLT Processor MessagesTransformation Successful.Everything worked fine but I still get this message with every document. Can I make it stop? If anyone from Adobe is reading, I want to say with some emphasis that this situation makes FM12 unworkable for me. I can't justify migration from FM11 if there is no way to stop this intrusion. Thanks,Russ
