Hello,I changed Preferences setting to Structured Authoring. I was prompted to restart FrameMaker 11.x.When I tried to open a file, I got this error message: Any suggestions on what I might have done wrong? If there is a bug or workaround for this, I would love to find it. Thanks! Laura Ferrer
I am working on FM 11. I have a "This page intentionally left blank." text box on an anchored from on a master page called Blank Page. When I assign this master page to a body page (Master page usage), the headers and footer show up but my "This page intentionally left blank." text doesn't. How do I correct this?
I was using Outlook to copy emails from AOL and distribute them among various folders for reference and litigation. Once Acrobat was installed on my computer, I can no longer copy & paste the emails into Outlook. If I convert to PDF, emails want to go to Document folder on computer to save and not Outlook.
I have a number of files done in FrameMaker 12 and want to export them as epub files. While I can make FrameMaker generate an epub file, I can not make it export the the text with correct czech characters. Also the export wizard does not seem to be able to handle tables. What am I supposed to to do with documents containing tables?regardsBjørn
Hi,I am familiar with editing the customui.cfg file to create my own shortcut keys or modifying existing ones for existing commands. Is it possible to create keyboard shortcuts for paragraph formats? For example, Esc hd1 for heading 1 or Esc hd2 for heading 2.Yours,Michael F========
Has anyone used Framemaker with PTC Windchill as a CMS using the filter for Windchill? We would like to hear how it works with Framemaker 12.
I work in an office that uses an automated process to import XML files into FrameMaker 11. After importing, the files are formatted into FM11 documents. We are working in a Windows 7 environment. We recently upgraded the Zapf Dingbats font family to ITC Zapf Dingbats Std font family. When I import the xml file, I am receiving the following FrameMaker Console message:The "Zapfdingbats" Font Family is not available. It will be replaced by "Adobe Pi Std".I was advised to add the following line of code to the maker.ini file:[UnknownToKnownFontMap]Zapfdingbats, *,*= ITC Zapf Dingbats Std,*,*After making this change, when I import an xml file, the FrameMaker Console box is displaying the following message:The "Zapfdingbats" Font Family is not available. It will be replaced by "ITC Zapf Dingbats Std".What is causing the FrameMaker Console box to display and what can I do to prevent it from displaying? I am working with multiple templates, EDDs, and Rules files. This message is displaying for all
Hi there,I have a Spanish project in FrameMaker 10. Will not be a single document but more documents during a month or two. One of the major issue is Hyphenation. According to client's guidelines I MUST turn Hyphenation ON. However, the client also requested to look for some words (i.e. vehiculo) that MUST not be Hyphenated. So far all I can think of was to search using FIND the entire document for vehiculo and then applying the command turn hyphenation OFF for this word (Esc n s). Each document has 170+ pages. It is a waste of time to make it manually even using FIND option. Therefore is there a way to:1. Either using FIND/REPLACE to set all words in document containing "culo" not to be hyphenated even with Hyphenation ON?2. Or using the same command (FIND) to look for any "culo" at the beginning of a row and automatically, or manually, apply ESC n s?Vehiculo is just an example as I am sure there are many other words in Spanish containing "culo". Therefore I have to make sure none of t
I searched and searched Adobe's help after repeatedly seeing the error message from the Filter by Attribute's build expression dialog:"Invalid Expression, Kindly refer to help for rules on building expression."After wrestling with this feature for a while, I got it working. And, decided to provide the following help topic on it. Comments, feedback, and improvements are welcome.Using the Special, Filter by Attribute CommandThe Filter by Attribute dialog lets you define a build expression to filter DITA content based on element attribute values. The first step to using this dialog is to define attribute values that you will use in your build expression.Select an attribute from the attribute list.Enter a value for that attribute and click on Add.The attribute value appears in the Defined Values list. This list displays all of the defined values for the selected attribute. After defining the attribute values for filtering, the next step is to define a build expression that filters content ba
My company wants our documentation to be accessible from a web page. No problem there. But they want to provide users with links that open the PDF files to a specific section. My books are in FM10. I created hypertext named destinations (example hyperlink syntax: newlink alarm) at the points where they want to open the PDF. I then saved the book to PDF, with the Create Named Destinations for All Paragraphs check box selected. We are now trying to build a link from the web page to open the PDF at the named destination. Here is some info from the web developer on his syntax: These zoom but do not position you to the named destination: <a href="Documentation/IO.OS 2.1.3 Technical Overview.pdf#nameddest=alarm&zoom=40">Tech Doc</a> <a href="Documentation/IO.OS 2.1.3 Technical Overview.pdf#alarm&zoom=40">Tech Doc</a> This positions to the indicated page and zooms: &
It seems that FM11 doesn't allow you to name the generated HTML files. Does anyone know if we can specify how the names are composed? Like in FM 7 (maybe some others too, but that was the last one I used.) Thanks a bunch!
FrameMaker 11 doesn't let me use certain paragraph tags to save certain FM files into separate HTML files. After I checked the box "Start New, Linked Web Page", that item has a Y in the Reference Pages for new web page, but it was being switched back to N during the process of Save As HTML, right in front me. It worked for some other Paragraph Tags, however. Would someone please tell what I missed? Thanks!!
I've prepared some DITA concepts outside FM. In these concepts, the name of the product is hauled in as a reference; the <ph> in the source files carefully reproduces the (naughty word ahead) formatting required by the product manager, namely <ph>productName <i>model</i></ph>.How do I tweak my EDD so that <i> is seen as permissible content for <ph>? At the moment, my <ph> definition has got as far asElement (Container): ph General rule: <TEXT> Text format rules In all contexts. Text range.Or is there some other mechanism I could be using? Thanks in advance for hints and tips.
Hey,I just received FrameMaker 12 and I like it. But I'm having problems when I use the save as PDF function. It takes very long time to generate the PDF (at least 30 minutes for a book)The fonts and spaces are messed up in the finished PDF. Some text blocks have paragraphs running over the marginI have tried a couple of different things:saving as MIF and back to FMuncheck rely on system fonts only, do not use document fontsbut nothing have worked yet, please help I'm getting frustrated.
I have researched this error message on the group thus far and have found no definitive answer. The file named in the dialog box does not exist on my machine. When I receive this error message, no FM files can be opened. My workaround has been to rename the file I was working on and, after doing this enough times, the error goes away and I can resume work.Would anyone have any further insight into this error message. Thank you for any help or guidance you can offer.nankinnankin
I have downloaded and installed the trial version of FrameMaker 12 to test the new publishing capability. My test document has five conditions, including one I would apply to paragraphs that anchor graphics frames. When I hide all conditional text, either by moving all conditions to the Hide text box or by applying the expression: not "Condition1" and not ( "Condition2" or "Condition3" or "Condition4" or "Condition5")and then "Publish" to Microsoft HTML Help, the resulting help file still shows the paragraphs I want hidden. The same thing happens if I select WebHelp. What step am I missing?
My office recently upgraded from Structured FrameMaker 8 | Win XP to Structured FrameMaker 11 | Win 7. We also upgraded some fonts, including Zapf Dingbats. We have replaced Zapf Dingbats with ITC Zapf Dingbats Std Medium. We use an automated process to create the formatted FrameMaker files that involves importing xml feeds into FrameMaker templates. The Zapf Dingbats font was used to create stars and to create square bullet. In order to create the stars, in the xml code we used the letter “H”. The code looked like this: <row> <tabletext><emphasis role="stars">HHH</emphasis></tabletext> <tabletext><emphasis role="stars">HHH</emphasis></tabletext> <tabletext><emphasis role="stars">HHHHH</emphasis></tabletext> </row>After the imported was completed, the xml “H” displayed as a solid star. After replacing Zapf Dingbats with ITC Zapf Dingbats Std Medium, the imported data displayed with “?” marks i
I need to remove the backup files in FrameMaker 11.
Recently when I've pdf'd a book in FrameMaker 10, some of the content in the tables is missing. It can be either text or graphics and usually occurrs towards the start of the book, but it won't be throughout the book. This doesn't happen with every book, only the odd one, but is very frustrating. If I pdf the individual Frame file, it works perfectly, some of these files have been used in previous books and the books pdf'd OK with no problems. The computer is running Windows 7 with 12 GB of RAM.Any ideas?
I am using frameMakker 11 and the authoring platform for the creation of S1000D xml modules withing a CSDB environment. We author in frameMaker but when we try and save we receive the following error message.has anyone else encocuntered this and what has been done to correct it.
Over the years, I have created a bunch of paragraph and character tags for different types of documents: technical manuals, novels, etc. For a given type of document, I will use some tags and not others. For example, a novel won't use numbered steps, or sideheads. The trouble is, after years of importing to get the latest tags of a certain type, all the chapter files in all the books have bloated catalogs, full of tags that aren't used and are not applicable for the type of document. I would like to clean up these catalogs, and leave only tags pertinent to that type of document. I'm willing to take the hit if a given chapter or book uses a tag that it shouldn't, as long as I know what it is. What is the "best practice" way to accomplish this? Which method do you recommend? Create a template file with clean catalogs, open each book file individually, delete all tags from the file, and re-import the tags from the template? Create a template file with clean catalogs, then create whole new

I'm working on a book with the following document layout:(Note: JHSV_Chapter_1.fm and JHSV_Ch1.fm are excluded documents.)I have set Section 1-1 to start numbering at Section #: 1. The remaining sections are set to Continue numbering from previous section in book:I can't get the section header numbers to autonumber. I need them to be Section 1.2, 1.3, and so on. As can be seen below, the section numbers have reset back to 1.1. (The figure titles remain correct since I have not updated my references.) My header paragraph format can also be seen in the image below.I have fought with this all day yesterday. At one point, it actually corrected itself (hence, the correct figure numbers). But now it has reset.Help!
Hello fellows,My environment: FM10 structured, Win7I created a conversion table with the following conversion rules. When converting an FM file to structured, for some unclear reason, the body text becomes cellbullet (bulleted list style used in table cells). Any ideas why this happens? An additional question: how are table and figure anchors treated during conversion, and whether there is a need to add some rule for them?Thank you in advance!
