I want to import part information from a database into a structured (XML) FrameMaker document. The document would be an Illustrated Parts Catalog, built by merging the text in the structured document with graphic files and nomenclature stored in a database. Can ExtendScript do this, or do I need to investigate a different language for this programmatic approach to building a document?
Hi, does FrameMaker v11 come with sample templates for designing a book, please?
I opened and edited a document that was authored in an older version of FrameMaker and I received the message about the document using unavailable fonts, to reformat using available fonts, click OK. I have saved the document and all, but it fails on publishing stating it cannot due to font issues. Any suggestions?
I am research whether or not Framemaker would be a product that suits our needs. We would like to create a technical document, but have the majority of the files live outside of the Framemaker file in Word Docs. This would allow my client to make easy updates to the document and allow for multiple users to edit the documents outside of Framemaker. Can Framemaker be used to create the structure of the technical document but have most of the content live outside of Framemaker?
Where are debug versions of FM 12 FDK libs?fdk.lib(fde_netlib.obj) : error LNK2038: mismatch detected for '_ITERATOR_DEBUG_LEVEL': value '0' doesn't match value '2'
I made an upgrade from v10 to v11. All books and chapters lokk fine and editing and sving is no problem. Text is entered in FM, illustrations are imported in wmf format. When using the function "export to PDF" the problem starts. The program starts to do something. alost imediately the message come ups " program does not respond". The program hangs there forever. The only way to stop FM is through the task manager.I can see that something has been done, as the FM has started to generate a .tps file.No error messages are generated.Anyone with tips or tricks to vercome this issue?
How can we disable the 'Improvement Program' from all the apps in TCS5, so that the end users are not able to see the option in the help menu? We have tried changing the value of bUsageMeasurement (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\(product name)\(version)\FeatureLockdown) to zero, but it did not help.
Hi All,I'm wondering how FM supports XML Schemas. I need to validate the uniqnuess of the value of an element in my XML. Let's say I have an XML like this one:

Parameter 1 description

12345

Parameter 2 description

6789
The value of
must be unique throughout the XML file. As far as I know, I can add a validation of the uniqnuess of
into my XML schema. The question is whether this uniqnuess check will be supported by FM.Any advice is appreciated.Thank you very much!
Battling on happily after that Aha!-moment before Christmas, and testing myself by retrofitting structure to existing documents – still having far more fun than I feel I should do at the office :-}Today's question, which may well reveal an embarrassing lack of basic understanding. In my unstructured documents, I've always used specific character styles for options like !cite and !xph (book-titles and in-line code snippets respectively). Now I'm exploring structure, I haven't yet managed to work out how to handle these in-line changes. "Format change list" looked promising, but how do I define an element that's going to trigger the change? (if "element" is the right word at this low a level)My battered copy of the FM 7.0 User Guide briefly but tantalisingly mentions "… wrapping items that are inside paragraphs" without farther explanation. What other (online) references would you recommend?
b Problem Description: Sort order of paragraph styles INCONSISTENT/INCORRECT when compared to standard alphabetical sort. From the Paragraph Catalog, or when I select F9, styles starting with "1a_" sort before styles starting with "1_". If a table with the style names is sorted, "1_" comes before "1a_". This sort order worked correctly in FM7.2. In FM8.x, it started sorting incorrectly. Our template was designed based on the standard sort order for characters, which somehow changed starting in FM8.x. b Steps to Reproduce: Generated a list of para styles in our template, converted to table, sorted, and compared to the Paragraph Catalog. b Actual Result: 1a_Heading1_NoTOC b out of order 1k_Title_Kit b out of order 1_Heading1 1_Heading1TOC 2a_Heading2_NoTOC b out of order 2_Heading2 2_Heading2TOC 3_Heading3 4_Heading4 5_Heading_RunIn 6_Heading_Subtopic 7a_Heading_SGD_Command b out of order 7a_Heading_SGD_CommandTOC b out of order 7b_Heading_ZBI_CommandTOC b out of
This request isn't specific to FrameMaker but I thought it would be a good place to ask. I've been looking for a style guide to use when documenting touch devices—a guide similar to the old Microsoft guide for the Windows UI. Our group has not been consistent documenting these applications or interactions. Some touch, some tap; some stretch, some expand. Googling hasn't helped: Android, Windows, and iOS documentation and applications aren't consistent among or within themselves, either. We're writing for applications on all these platforms. If your company has developed or found a guide and you don't mind sharing it, I'd love to see it! Thanks for any help!
In a new document, I created master pages, each with a text frame type of "Template for Body Page Text Frame," each with the same flow tag.For each text frame, I activated the "Room for Side Heads" property. When I apply the master pages to the document body (Format > Page Layout > Master Page Usage > Use Master Page: > Apply), the "Room for Side Heads" property disappears.Does anyone know why my text frames are not following the master page format applied?I am using Framemaker 11.
I would like it to look similar to this:I would like for this to show on each page of the document. This would be a multi-page standalone document.
The arabic world still seems to be excluded from using FramMaker due to the fact that it isn´t possible to type from right to left. When will Adobe recognise this problem? Over the years everything has got more and more globalised but not in the eyes of Adobe. As a Frame user a manual in Arabic or Hebrew just has to be made with "Word" with all the restrictions that includes.JW
Would it be possible to add support of SubHeaders in tables? I have several documents that requir a standard header followed by subheader that change based on the content of the table. Need a feature like Running Headers except for tables. Example table on first page:Header 1Topic 1SubTopic 1.1SubSub Topic 1.1.1ContentContentSubSub Topic 1.1.2ContentExample table that continues on next page:Header 1Topic 1 (Continued) (SubHeader)
I installed FrameMaker 10 on my PC, and apparently Adobe's CS3 Web Standard was included in that installation. Is Creative Suite 3 Web Standard a necessary component of FrameMaker, or can I remove it from my PC and still use FrameMaker 10 without a problem?
Hi,I'm new to Framemaker. I'm trying to do a proof of concept document by migrating a user guide from Word to Framemaker. I've got the "digital" pdf version down, now I want to be able to export to a "print" user guide . My problem: the digital guide is 8.5x11in full color and the print version is 8.5 x 5.5 in and black and white. is there an easy way to do this? The point of the project is to only update one set of data. I've seen that it's pretty easy to export to the web once the template is set up, but I haven't figured this out.Thank you in advance.
Greetings. Not sure this question belongs here. If it belongs elswhere please let me know. When I try to select a bulleted list that continues onto the next page my selection automatically leaps forward far beyond where I want it to stop (like the end of the document sometimes).I've tweaked every Windows 7 touchpad and mouse parm I can find to no avail. I've Googled this with no luck - lots of hits all of which address slowing down the mouse but only a few address the touchpad but still met with no success.Anyone have ideas? Again. If this is in the wrong forum please let me know. Thanks,Jerry
Hi to all,a customer of mine would upgrade to framemaker 11 from fm7. He make documentation in a lot of languages, western, but also Central europe, middle east, chinese, russian, etc.In FM7 he used Helvetica CE, Arial CE, Times Greek, Helvetica Cyr, and so on.Now he would like to convert his files to unicode support (Arial, Myriad...).Suggestions?Thanks.Mario.
Fellow Forum Members,My stylesheets are 31 separate FO-XSL files. There is one MAIN XSL file that contains links to all 30 XSL files. It's the only file that needs to be pointed to using a directory path. In addition, I do not have a single DTD.file. Instead the S1000D_4-0-1 folder contains 16 FOS files, 51 XSD files, and 16 DCF files. Can anyone out there please provide a brief overview on how I'm suppose to setup all my Schema and Stylesheet files to the dialog window shown below:In what field do I insert my path to my MAIN FO-XSL stylesheet file? The word "Stylesheet" doesn't show anywhere in the dialog window? Also how do I setup the multitude of files within my S1000D_4-0-1 folder? Do all of thes files need to be converted into EDD files? I don't see any field in the S.A.D. dialog window that will allow me to define a path to all of my S1000D_4-0-1 schema files. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Fellow Forum Member,I have a S1000D Publication Module (PM) file which contains XML code which integrates all required Data Modules, style sheet and schema data into a cohesive publication for PDF output. My goal is to PDF output using FrameMaker 10 the XML code within the Publication Module not relying on the S1000D Add-on Package Adobe has available for download. Instead what I want to do for convenience sake is to load the Publication Module XML code into a book and publish it as a PDF without setting up a structured application since the Schema and Stylesheet C:\path location is already included in the PM file as XML code. Is this possible? From what I have Googled thw Schema needs to be converted to a DTD and then an EDD. The brickwall I'm hitting is importing the pmSchema.xsd file into FrameMaker. Currently, FrameMaker crashes when I try to convert my XSD schema file to a DTD. Nevertheless, my PM already contains C:\Path code that points to the where the Schema a
I'm using Framemaker 10. I was using numbering and selected Numbered Next, but FM started numbering from 1, although there were previous numbers up to 4. This has never happened before. Also in the same document, FM is sometimes forcing a page break whenever I mark text as a heading. Any ideas?
Hi all, I have run into a DITA problem. Each chapter of the document, i.e. top-level topic, contains a miniature toc of the nested sections. Therefore the first child topic's title should receive a page break. I tried this context rule for the title element, below you find the screenshot which I have tried to translate because the EDD is in German. Even though I define that the context should be the first parent topic only, the result is that every second-level topic now has a page break. Any ideas? 8. Count ancestors: topic concept task reference If level is: 2 8.1 If context is: (topic{first} | concept{first} | task{first} | reference{first}) ..then set page break. Robert
10.0.2.419, sole user in corporate environment, zero chance of running add-ons and extensions :-{I'm still a long way from using structured FM to cover the whole route from information to publication, but I'm working on it. This morning, prompted by an external question, I set up an excessively long task with 14 steps: no problem there, and output to .pdf reproduced the task as it had been entered. Out of curiosity, I also tried Save as HTML … and was considerably surprised to get handed a page with no numbering whatsoever. My for-the-time-being primary tool for DITA offers XHTML (single and multi-page), HTML help, HTML help, Java help, Eclipse help, ePUB, RTF, WordprocessingML, Office Open XML, OpenDocument, Postscript and PDF out of the box, and the XHTML option (I'll take the others on trust) faithfully reproduces the numbering. Two questions, then:what's the trick for just getting numbering in html output from FM source with numbering?what would I need to do to get a similar range of
Hi,I’ve downloaded the program (FM11 trial), in order to create service manuals. I have created many portions of them in Word, which are highly effective, however, due to the number of graphics and word graphics added to them, the docuemnts get very large very fast. I am struggling, as I do not have a tonne of time to invest in learning your product. Do you have any videos specific to my need?1. Take a word document and convert to framemaker with existing formatting and images from multiple documents.2. Combine into one framemaker document (with images stored separately).3. Add in table of contents/figures/references etc to final document
