FrameMaker 11 (working in both structured and unstructured) is not automatically adding new pages when content is added. the end of flow mark is not visible (however, a solid line is indicating additional text is hidden).
Hi all,We have Frame 11 and a doc set based on xDocbook 4.2 -- I know that's way back, but that's not our question. 🙂We are adding support for a <refentry> element to our docs. This exists in Docbook and appears in various parent elements, including a <chapter> element. We need to insert it anywhere in a chapter. Our Chapter General Rule has been quite simple: Title, Section+Now we just want the ability to add a RefEntry anywhere that we can add a Section. I tried this, which seems logical:Title, (Section | RefEntry)+With this, we can insert one or more RefEntry elements as the first elements, but if we try to put one after a Section element, we get parsing errors that RefEntry is not allowed in a chapter. I've tried editing the EDD in numerous ways and have not been able to support a RefEntry to appear anywhere.I believe -- from what I have read and from looking at the DTD -- that the Docbook DTD should support a RefEntry at any locati
Hi, Can I insert a spreadsheet in a text frame on a FrameMaker page in FM9 and make the text frame scrollable in the published pdf? When I double click on the spreadsheet in the text frame I can scroll, so can I get this feature in the pdf output? Can a FrameMaker9 published pdf hold an embedded object the way MS Word would holds? Has anyone tried this, if you have any information on this please share it. Thanks and Regards,Anu
I am trying to move a copy of FM 9 from an old laptop to a new one running Windows 7 Enterprise. My IT guy reinstalled the software from CD and applied my license key. When I try to start FM, it gives this error during the "Core" startup: "FrameMaker cannot initialize its dictionaries. Either the LanguageDir entry specified in the initialization file is missing or incorrect, or the files in the LanguageDir are missing or corrupted."I still have the old laptop, so I can compare and copy the files and directories directly. As far as I can see, the LanguageDir entry in the maker.ini is identical on both machines. Both have a dict folder, and I see the same number of files in both. Just for good measure I copied the old folder's contents across to the new folder, but that didn't help.
Hi,I'm working in FM 9 and FM 11.I have a folder for a book and for all its .fm children. When I open the book, many .fm files in the book pane ae marked with a ?, and trying to open them produces the error "File named Whatever.fm does not exist."Does anyone know why this happens, and how to fix it?A possible clue: I frequently need to download a zip file of the whole book and its components from a document management tool, and then unzip locally. Thanks much.
Hi,I have a tool to convert Framebook into PDF and this works good. But the generated pdf is not of the same size as it is generated through FrameMaker Save as PDF. With the FrameMaker API, I get a dialog box to choose the different PDF Job options available. I came across a similar provision with FDK which also has a property to set the PDF Job options but it doesnt work as expected. Please correct me if my approach is wrong. params = F_ApiGetSaveDefaultParams(); i = F_ApiGetPropIndex(&params, FS_FileType); params.val.propVal.u.ival = FV_SaveFmtPdf; i = F_ApiGetPropIndex(&params, FP_PDFJobOption); &nb

I gotta be missing something pretty obvious here but the text, not headers, are showing up in Latin. For example, plain report:ReportAuthorHeading1Meditabar aliquid enotabamque, ut, si manus vacuas, plenas tamen ceras reportarem. Non est quod contemnas hoc studendi genus.Heading2Ridebis, et licet rideas. Ego ille quem nosti apros et quidem pulcherrimos cepi. Ipse? inquis. Is there a parm that I should have set/change?Thanks. Alot.Jerry
I am currently using Excel spreadsheet for my project but find it cumbersome with large amounts of test. My requirement is to create a table that contains the day of the week, Month, day and year then data that belongs to that specific date. I need but be able to automatically update the date, for example Monday, January 6, 2014 then when I have enter the date it will automatically update to Tuesday, January 7, 2014 and so on for the entire year. Then when 2015 arrives I just have to update the 1st date and all others are automatically updated. Can this be done in Framemaker 11?Thanks for your help
Posting this here for future reference, as Adobe Support gave wrong answer.Problem: Converting FM 7 book to FM 11 (by opening in FM 11), all documents show as having invalid X-Refs on opening, but search from Invalid XRefs only shows valid XRefs.(This is a problem because it makes it really difficult to locate "valid invalid" xrefs)Tried the usual workarounds (save as FM11, restart FM 11, reopen saved; convert to MIF in FM 7, convert to back FM in FM11; etc.). No joy.Adobe Solution: Called Adobe Support: after a lot of going around in circles, told me I would need to install FM 8 and FM 10, and do a step by step conversion (FM7>FM8, FM8>FM10, FM10 > FM11) to fix. This seemed silly (they couldn't say why that would work) and impractical (I only have FM7 and FM11, they couldn't provide trial copies of FM 8 or FM 10).ACTUAL SOLUTION:Actually caused by missing fonts in FM11 (installed on different PC). Once I changed got rid of those, the invalid "Invalid X-Ref" messages all went
I am trying to open an existing project in Frame Maker 10. Some of the files are created in Frame 7 and the rest are created in Frame 10. Now, when I try to open a file in the book, it throws the error " Internal Error 10024, 9323487, 9022944, 9008636. Frame Maker has detected a serious problem and must quit."I have already tried some of the work arounds like renaming the Linguistics file and deleting the temp files etc. Still the problem persists. Any thoughs? Thanks, Arun
I am having trouble generating a book pdf. 1. Cross-references lose their blue font, although the hyperlinks work and do go to the chapter being referenced. Page numbering are also color-defined, this is lost in the generated pdf. Ruling lines that are red are turning black.2. The headings have a pink-red background at top of page but this is turing black, obliterating the text of headings.
Is there a way to improve the onscreen preview for tables with fill or shading set to less than 100%? I have a corporate template for a long user manual. Their warning/caution tables have a 30% fill of a pantone color to achieve their shading effect. The 30% (or any %) makes the shading appear like a dot pattern. That pattern makes it very hard to read the content in the cell (only onscreen preview -- PDF or printed output is find).I am in FrameMaker 11.02.384, Windows.I have searched Google and this forum for information or advice, but have come up empty. If I can't get it, or if there is no workaround, I'll try to find a gray that matches this level of tint/color at a 100% shading value.I
I have just recently acquired FM11 to continue building structured documents and books. We use an externally generated DTD and I have set up the application files accordingly. I have added the plug-in 11.0.2 update, and when calling files or trying to regenerate files in the book compiler, it crashes repeatedly. I need to have this tool working now, and it's frustrating to see this happening. What is going on and how do I fix it?
I've changed the position and size of the text frame on both the Left and Right master pages of my document. But the Body pages are not updating to show the changes, even though I select Remove Overrides when I switch the view to Body pages. And when I go to Master page view again, each time I switch back to Body page view, I get the message that I have overrides on all of my pages. To get the correct text frame on the Body page, I have had to change the frame on each Body page individually. And I still get the overrides message each time I switch from Master page view to Body page view. Is what I'm describing a known bug? I've searched the forums and have found reports that people are getting the override message when they are sure they do not have overrides. But I have not yet found the exact problem that I'm reporting.I have a large number of documents to convert to new text frames. I do not want to have to change every page individually for all of these documents.
"Can't launch Acrobat Distiller to create PDF file."I cannot find Distiller on my workstation. I do not see it in the Control Panel. I also cannot find Distiller on the distribution media.I suspect it is not installed. Can anyone help? Thanks,Jerry
need to convert frame meker file to indesign
Hello,I have a ditamap that consists of files converted, using Mif2Go, to DITA 1.2 <concept> and <task> files. Each file is a heading from a single chapter in a manual. The ditafm-output.ini has the following:TemplateDir=$STRUCTDIR\xml\DITA_1.2\app\technicalContent\templateCompositeDocTemplate_1.2=ditabase.template.fmI do not have each <concept> and <task> file wrapped in <dita>. Questions:Is there anyway to tell FM to use the respective template for each root-level element? I looked in the FM 11 ini Reference and it appears the answer to that is no.If I do have to wrap the root elements in <dita>, is this considered a less than best practice? If I do have to wrap in <dita>, does anybody know of any potential issues with a CMS or whatever?FYI1: We need to go with DITA 1.2, because down the road we are going to use the learning modules.FYI2: I will be using RobeHelp to to create Web Help from imported book files. To Scott Prentice: Are you coming
Hello ,When Adobe first shipped FM11 there was an example on their help liturature of embedding a 3D model. This model could then be advanced through its representations/angles by clicking a button. The model was something with a couple of cogs on if I recall.Anyone remember where this is located?
Guys,I wonder if there is there a way to make a script event-driven, so that it will be triggered, for example, after importing formats from another file? The FM help says that 'Registered' scripts are event-driven, but there is not even a word on how to define the event.Thank you for your response in advance! My best wishes,Roman

Is there any way to get rid of most or even better all of the warning messages that come up?

Something amazing has happened. After countless attempts to get a toehold on the glassy wall of structured Frame, I've suddenly managed to run up it as far as writing my first EDD – it works, it handles tables, I've successfully tried both ParagraphFormatting and ElementPgfFormatTag, and I still understood it the next day.So now I'm happily experimenting with some very simple DITA files, prepared and validated elsewhere. I used a <ph conref="_ymvProductVariable.dita#terminal/product"/> construct in my DITA file to replicate the behaviour of a FrameMaker user variable. Opening the DITA file in FM and applying my EDD highlights the <ph> as an invalid element, which I can accept.Question – to which I may not understand the answer, but I'll try: how do I define the <ph> element, so I can include it in a General rule like (<TEXT> | ph)+ and have it show the value of the variable? My apologies for trying to run before I can walk, but after years feeling my feet were na
