FrameMaker

Hi everyone,Here is what I'm trying to do with FrameMaker and find impossible to do:I have to maintain two sets of different tables each starts with number 1 inside the table. So I created two paragraph tags with 'Auto Number' checked and applied to the two different tables. But the result is not what I want: the number inside one table continues from the other one, instead of 1, 2, 3, 4, ... and 1, 2, 3, 4... It is 1, 2, 3, 4... Am I doing anything wrong here? Must be, for it doesn not work.Thanks for any help.

Since Techical Communication Suite 4 has such a large footprint for installation, I need to free up some disk space. Can I uninstall TCS3 before upgrading to TCS4?

Below is a problem that a writer in my group is having. She are asked to put in the license key each time she opens any of the programs in the new Tech Comm Suite 4. Any Ideas?? I suggested that she uninstall and reinstall the entire suite to see if this corrects the problem. She is using Windows 7 O/S.Remember the issue I had last week with signing in to the software products with my license?Now it is requiring that I do that every time I launch each of the software products.

(earlier post sent by error).When I import graphics into FM (FM10, WIN7, 64-bit), they appear by deafault at 88.87% of original size.Anyone out there knows how to set FM to import at 100%, if at all possible?TIA!

So my boss is wanting me to write a review on page layout/desktop publishing software, and they are convinced that they want FrameMaker on our lineup. As i look at it more and more, I just get more confused. Is it like InDesign or PagePlus? Or is it someting completely different and I am just an idiot. Also, don't answer the last part of that question.

I need to permanently modifiy the style sheet for the project in which I am currently involved. I can modify the style sheet for each file. PDF it and it looks fine. However, when I save it and reopen it in FrameMaker, the styles revert to the original style sheet. I need to change the style sheet and save it to match this project. How do I do this?

I'm currently working in a document, using several different user-created variables, and I'd like to know if I can hide the stock, system variables from the display, as I don't use them.  My reasoning is two-fold:I just want to minimize the overall list to make for easier navigationThe "Sort" on Name functionality (ascending/descending) in the VARIABLES tab, doesn't fully work every time (i.e., sometimes the results are actually mixed up).Any help would be appreciated.Regards,- Chris

Hi all,over the EDD I have only been able to auto-insert a single child element, and then another nested element. Is there a way to auto-insert several elements on he same level?Example: When I insert a concept element, then title and conbody elements should be inserted automatically.Robert

Is it possible to supresse single header in a TOC. E.g. repeating H1 (invisible) in 2nd file of book to display the correct running h/f in 2nd file (because of changing the file size). When I just repeat the header on the 1st page in the 2nd file, it appears as well again in the TOC. Other "solutions" in the forum for the running h/f didn't look to me as solutions.My sysem: Win7-64, FM11 (unstructured).

I found this error when updating a newly converted Frame 11 book today:Can't update the link file_name_no_longer_on_this_path.vsdThe file is in another path now, but the file shouldn't even be linked into this book in the first place...it's a Visio source file!I have tried creating an LOR and listing external references but I can't find the .vsd file listed in the LOR anywhere.Does anyone have suggestions on how to track this link down and delete it given the sparse info Frame gives about the problem?Thanks for suggestions,Bob[email address deleted by host]

I'm trying to print a FrameMaker 9 file to PDF, but the "Generate Acrobat Data" field and the PDF Setup button are both disabled - meaning I cannot select or unselect either. How can I get these re-enabled?

Hi - we're gearing up to create an automated book-building process using FM11.Before we start, a quick straw-poll:What do you folks recommend / suggest as the best automation tool?We want to trigger the process when SGML files are dumped into a directory. When we've done directory-triggered automation in the past under FM7.1, we've tended to use VB.NET code to trigger an instance of an FM7.1 API client (usually to build and collate PDFs, etc)... but, since we're in a new era with a new release of FM, we thought we'd take an open-minded, 'blue sky' approach here and see what tools members of the Framemaker community are using. If one particular approach seems to be easier / more advantageous / more widely adopted than any of the others, then I think that might nudge us down that road...Thanks.

How do I unmap behavior of Ctrl-Right Arrow from end of next word to start of next word? I am using FM 11 on a Windows platform.

Everytime I update a book, I receive the error message "Adobe FrameMaker 11 has stopped working" and the program closes. Details are as follows:OS: Windows 7FrameMaker Version: 11.0.1.382I have the following extras installed: Microtype TimeSavers, Book Page Count Plug-in, Elmsoft FrameScript, and Enhanced Toolbar.The problem occurs when I try to update the book with half or all of the files closed. They all have to be closed in order for the Book Page Count plug-in to work properly (www.frameexpert.com/plugins).The book updates just fine when more than half or all of the files are open. Please note that this happens only when I update a book that uses the Book Page Count plug-in.Please help!Thanks!

Hello,I have a question to FM 11 and here to change the dictionary.I´m from Gemany. So sorry for my english.I´m familiary to FM since 15 years.I want to change the dictionary. We create every time a new dictionary for new bigger orpjects. But now FM is shown only the personally dictionary: FMUserDictionary. When I create my own dictionary FM is store this one in the right folder but it doésn´t use it. New words are store in the FM dictionary.Could anybody help me?R

I am running FM 11 and is setting up a small manual and need to use Roboscreen Capture. Initially the shortcuts to launch RSC did work, but all of a sudden they don't. I have tried restarting, Num lock, Caps lock and what else might be at my to figure out why I can't make it work but no results. I can start the program and make it work if I point and click on the menus using my mouse -  but that is of little help because I need to capture dropdowns and other dynamics on the screen.Can anyone help?best regardsBjørn

My computer shut down when my office lost power, when I got up and running again I saw that my FM file names now had ‘recover’ at the end. So I renamed each one only eliminating the recover part. However when I tried to update the book I got “couldn't update this book because it contains no openable nongenerated files”. Please advise when you have a chance. I am using FM10.Thanx,William

I need to add marker elements to my EDD but I'm not quite sure how to go about it so they show up as Marker Elements when the "Special / Marker" is clicked on.  Specifically, I need Glossary, Cross-Ref, and Custom markers. Any tips or pointers to documentation would be appreciated.

When I used Print Setup to print the Book for my Structured Document, after selecting the "PDF Printer" I get a message saying "The font information for your computer has changed. This change may effect the format and output of your document".  How can I consolidate the font information so it doesn't change and I'm using the same font information to design my documents?

I'm working on a project where we are updateing from FM7 to FM11. Here I find some strange behavior (or problems ..).  We're extracting xml from a database and importing into FM11 with EDD's/templates to do the formatting.In this new version, we are losing a lot of spaces, and it seems to be connected to how FM11 is reading what my xml-expert calls "new line characters":  "There is a single new line character after &åttedel; and also after </nevner>, no space and it's correct like that. A new line character and a space (in PCDATA) in XML are 100% equivalent. This is an XML feature, enables XML serializers to line-break the XML without any information loss."This worked fine in FM7, and we had all our spaces correct in connection with entities and fractions (teller/nevner), - but in FM11 they are gone. I'm using the same EDD's/templates as in FM7, just updated them to correct FM version.Is this a sort of bug in FM11, have I done something wrong, or is it some trick in

Hi allNormally, when importing from Word to Frame, I copy the required text into Notepad to remove all vestiges of Word formatting, then paste into Frame.However, this time, for some reason I skipped this step when doing tables.I have now ended up with table bullets that just will not behave as expected.How do I remove this formatting?The first row below contains the highlighted TableBullet styles. As you can see, the style somehow overlaps the first column. I'm guessing this is because it has come in from Word.The second row contains the highlighted TableBody style. It is correct, contained solely within the one column.I have tried importing styles and other formats from the document itself (using Current in the Import Formats dialog), also tried importing from the template.I have also tried deleting the style, creating temp styles, deleting the column, copying to Notepad and pasting, all to no avail.All I really want to do is remove the rogue formatting. Has anyone got any suggestion

I am creating a Table of Contents in FrameMaker 9. The first page formats correctly with leader dots and tab stops for page numbers but the subsequent pages do not.I have checked the paragraph tags and the reference pages...help!

Hi,I am running Frame in a Win 7 Parallels VM. I have had several Parallels crashes, one of which corrupted my VM. I had to spend 2 hours with Parallels tech support to sort out the problem.Then, during a time-crunch deadline, I started experiencing mulitple Parallels crashes (spinning beach balls, freezes, etc, then weird failure to launch errors) in the middle of updating a 300 page .book file. I decided to try VMWare instead on trial. But it's kind of slow and a bit buggy, and not really any more stable.So, I am willing to go back to Parallels, but I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for more stability. For example, would moving my VM to an external FireWire drive improve stability?I am running a brand new 8-core Mac Mini, OS X 10.8.4, 8 GB RAM (with about 3 GB of Ram dedicated to the VM). Basically, has anyone done any optimizations to their host or VM that has improved stability of the Frame in a VM?
