When I used Print Setup to print the Book for my Structured Document, after selecting the "PDF Printer" I get a message saying "The font information for your computer has changed. This change may effect the format and output of your document". How can I consolidate the font information so it doesn't change and I'm using the same font information to design my documents?
I'm working on a project where we are updateing from FM7 to FM11. Here I find some strange behavior (or problems ..). We're extracting xml from a database and importing into FM11 with EDD's/templates to do the formatting. In this new version, we are losing a lot of spaces, and it seems to be connected to how FM11 is reading what my xml-expert calls "new line characters": "There is a single new line character after &åttedel; and also after </nevner>, no space and it's correct like that. A new line character and a space (in PCDATA) in XML are 100% equivalent. This is an XML feature, enables XML serializers to line-break the XML without any information loss."This worked fine in FM7, and we had all our spaces correct in connection with entities and fractions (teller/nevner), - but in FM11 they are gone. I'm using the same EDD's/templates as in FM7, just updated them to correct FM version. Is this a sort of bug in FM11, have I done something wrong, or is it some trick in
Hi allNormally, when importing from Word to Frame, I copy the required text into Notepad to remove all vestiges of Word formatting, then paste into Frame. However, this time, for some reason I skipped this step when doing tables.I have now ended up with table bullets that just will not behave as expected. How do I remove this formatting? The first row below contains the highlighted TableBullet styles. As you can see, the style somehow overlaps the first column. I'm guessing this is because it has come in from Word. The second row contains the highlighted TableBody style. It is correct, contained solely within the one column.I have tried importing styles and other formats from the document itself (using Current in the Import Formats dialog), also tried importing from the template.I have also tried deleting the style, creating temp styles, deleting the column, copying to Notepad and pasting, all to no avail. All I really want to do is remove the rogue formatting. Has anyone got any suggestion
I am creating a Table of Contents in FrameMaker 9. The first page formats correctly with leader dots and tab stops for page numbers but the subsequent pages do not.I have checked the paragraph tags and the reference pages...help!
FYI, Frank Elmore has announced the availability of FrameScript v.6 for beta testing. There are some very powerful new features that should make this a compelling upgrade. For full details, please see the message over in the FrameScript forums at Yahoo Groups.See: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/framescript-users/message/10507 [Note: you may need to join the group to see this]
Hi,I am running Frame in a Win 7 Parallels VM. I have had several Parallels crashes, one of which corrupted my VM. I had to spend 2 hours with Parallels tech support to sort out the problem. Then, during a time-crunch deadline, I started experiencing mulitple Parallels crashes (spinning beach balls, freezes, etc, then weird failure to launch errors) in the middle of updating a 300 page .book file. I decided to try VMWare instead on trial. But it's kind of slow and a bit buggy, and not really any more stable. So, I am willing to go back to Parallels, but I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for more stability. For example, would moving my VM to an external FireWire drive improve stability?I am running a brand new 8-core Mac Mini, OS X 10.8.4, 8 GB RAM (with about 3 GB of Ram dedicated to the VM). Basically, has anyone done any optimizations to their host or VM that has improved stability of the Frame in a VM?
I need to add spaces and underscores to formulas in FM10. Can't seem to figure it out. Suggestions?
I have downloaded the trial version to use until I get a proper license. I switched from FM 10 to FM 11. However, opening a document in FM11 whether it is from a FM11 template or a previous document in FM 10 displays only a blank document. If I click on anything in the interface, I can see the outline of the document, but once I click away, it is blank again. I am opening it unstructured FM which is the only interface I've used. I have looked at preferences, view, etc. I don't see anything to turn off the WYSIWYG interface and see the document properly. There is no insertion point and the catalogs are set to show everything. Please help,Laura
Leaving aside any discussion on the inherent naughtiness of overrides … I wanted to apply one this morning. It didn't take. I'm wondering why. Here's a screenshot. After the caption and the header, all the table content uses :ttx. So, to indent the codes, I opened the paragraph designer and applied an 18pt indent to the standard :ttx definition. Nothing happened. Out of curiosity, I cleared the indent I'd tried to apply via the Table cell tab and applied it again via the Basic tab. Still nothing.Hints and tips welcome, as always.N
I want to create an EScript which converts temporary citations inserted from EndNote by the final citations according to the desired standard. I had done such utilities for FM 7 and 8 (see daube.ch/docu/fmaker41.html). The first step is to collect the temporary citations form the document and write them to a new document which then will be exported as RTF (to be handled by EndNote).Due to the limitation of Wildcard-search i use RegEx.tempCit = GetTempCitation ("Hello fans [[Dante, #712]] and another one [[DuçanÌsídõrâ, #312]]."); alert ("tempCit = " + tempCit); function GetTempCitation (pgfText) { var regex = /(\[\[[^\]]+\]\])/; var tempCit = "$1"; if (pgfText.search(regex) !== -1) { return pgfText.replace (regex, tempCit); } else { return null; } } Due to lack of documentation (and
Recently we upgraded to FrameMaker 11 from FrameMaker 6. We also upgraded to FrameScript 5.2 to be able to use scripts to automate saving books as PDF files (one of the scripts updates the conditionial settings in the book, saves the book as a single PDF file at the location provided on the reference page and closes the book). For some reason the script that worked great with FM6 does not seem to work so great with FM11. It creates a good PDF file but then it keeps processing the book for several more minutes (FM6 closed the book right after creating the PDF file). If the book contains more than 35-40 files, FM11 crashes after a few minutes locking some of the files in the book. This happens only if the files in the book are not opened. If all the files in book are opened the script will work -- but it still takes a few minutes after creating the PDF file to process all the files and close the book (taking all the computer processing power to do it -- new Dell M6600 laptop with Windows
Hi...I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this question, but am looking for validation. Is it possible to add multiple attribute values to an element using a conversion table? The following conversion table creates the <some-elem> element with the @attrname attribute set to "attrval" .. but what if I wanted to set two attributes? I tried this .. some-elem[attrname="attrval"][otherattrname="attrval2"] .. but the second definition was ignored. Is there any way to do this (with conversion tables)?Wrap this objectIn this elementWith this qualifierP:some-para-tagsome-elem[attrname="attrval"]Thanks!...scott
It is so much faster to modify a template than to build one from scratch.

A sudden dream moment … wouldn't it be great if, when referencing an .eps graphic in FM, we could turn its layers on and off. At the moment, I try to keep a base drawing and its variants as an .ai file with thoughtful use of (named) layers: but then I have to save each view as a separate .eps, so if something basic like a logo changes there's a small but significant amount of extra work to do. Yup, I've been informally advised there's a logo-change ahead
I made changes to the edd files in the DITA 1.2 folder, but they aren't showing up when I use applications that are linked to them. The changes I made don't go into effect until I import element definitions, and I don't want to do that for every file. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks!
I am familiar with FrameMaker. However, I have never used structured FrameMaker or DITA. I am just starting a new project and need to make recommendations.

Windows 7 64-bit. Framemaker 11, Build 11.0.1.382I have two files in a book (out of 5) that always ask if I want to save changes - even when I've made none.I have checked this repeatedly... just open the file and then immediately close without touching the document. The other three files (with very little content right now) do not exhibit this behavior. What might cause this?I've seen this posting, but for me... it's not every file. 1.jaloren28,Mar 28, 2012 10:58 AM in reply to Terri in Wis RapidsReportSince its happening with every file, my suspicion is that your application data is corrupted. Try this:close down framemaker.delete the following directory: C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\reopen framemaker and see if the problem is reproducible.
Hi everyone, when I try to use the shortcut Ctrl+L in order to refresh the document display, FM 11 always freezes and sooner or later it crashes completely.Using Window > Refresh does not cause any problems.Anyone else got this issue? Thanks!Best wishes from GermanySebastian
Hello everyone. For some reason, FM keeps crashing when I try to apply a conditional text tag to a table (entire table). The funny thing is I have been doing this same thing for three months now with no problems before today, even have two tables in the same document with different tags applied to them and they are working fine. But when I try to add this one, I crash. I have rebooted my computer and made sure all my drivers are up to date, but now I'm at a loss. Any help? Thanks.
So … I updated a pin-out table as requested, deftly adjusted the colspans and rowspans to match the drawing I'd been given, and drew the lines. The results were as attached. You can guess what happened next: we dropped a paragraph of text upstream of the table. The table moved obediently up, the graphic frame stayed where it was.I thought that adding an anchored frame to hold the graphics frame might be the answer, but so far I haven't persuaded an anchored frame to cross the boundaries of the table cell :-{Hints and tips welcome, as usual. I suppose it's no big deal to recreate the whole table as an .eps in Illustrator, if that's what it takes – just less elegant.
Yet another bug in FM11? If you are using a selection to limit the scope of a find/change, FM11 now drops the selection after the first find. Consequently, it can't find anything else that matches as there is no more selection and you have to re-select again. What a PITA! In FM10 and earlier, FM would remember the selection and just keep searching until it reached the end of the selection. Can anybody verify this user-hostile (what's a QC test script?) behaviour in the latest pached version of FM11?
When editing objects in a graphics frame, Paint program keeps opening the image. How do I disable Paint from popping up when working in FrameMaker 11?
I am using FrameMaker 10 to open SGML/XML files for PDF printing. I have a lot of manual things I have to do to the pages to get them the way the customer wants them, although the EDD & template does most of the work. This is the second big book I have done this way, so I know the process works, but for some reason it has suddenly broken on this book. It's a 1500-page manual, and I was at the end, preparing to start my TOC, but my book kept bombing. So I created a new book and imported all the files again, in case the old book had gotten corrupt. I also had to switch from structured to unstructured to do the TOC & other generated files, because for some reason it won't populate the correct paragraph formats, and I use several variations from the actual element names. Anyway, somewhere along the line as I was generating the TOC, suddenly I started getting new errors stating this document is "View Only". It does it on every single file now. And I also noticed there are suddenly b
