I am looking for documentation on getting started using S1000D in FrameMaker 11. When I select S1000D>New>Publication Module in FrameMaker 11 nothing appears. Do I need any additional software such as Technical Communications Suit?Thanks

Hi all,I have a marker in my text containung a text string (e.g. an ID number). I tried to create a cross-ref format that allows me to link to the marker. But if I insert the paragraph text placeholder, then the cross-ref displays the entire paragraph in which the marker is placed, not just the marker text. Which placeholder would I need to use to display only the marker?

Dear FrameMaker Gurus.I am working with an FDK9 client compiled in Visual Studio 2008.The company plans to migrate from FM9 to FM11.After downloading FDK11 and applying necessary changes to code, linking appropriate libraries and recompiling, I'm getting linking errors (mostly LNK2019 and LNK2001 in struct.lib and fdk.lib).I’m suspecting older version of Visual Studio as the culprit, I know that Visual Studio 2010 is recommended (perhaps even required) when compiling FDK clients.However, is there a workaround to correctly compile the FDK11 client under VS2008?

How to retrieve all external refereces in a frame maker file without conditional text of hidden

Hi guys,is there anywhere an official (or even better: an unofficial) documentation of the API clients that are shipped with FM11?I had so many strange behaviors working with the standard and the DITAfm_app clients, that I grew at least 5 more grey hairs.It would be nice if somebody could point me to such a doc, as I don't want to trigger some more burried landmines in those clients in the future.Cheers Alex

I added some features to my EDD, specifically a sub-list within a List item.  I generated a new DTD, then imported my EDD defintions into the Template.  I test my List and sub-list features and it worked just fine.  I then imported the new EDD definitions into an existing document that was built upon the previous version of the EDD.  The new list features did NOT work.  The popup dialog to prompt for the type of list did not appear.  I double clicked on the List element in the Structured View and was able to adjust the type (I picked Numbered) and the 1.  appeared.  I typed a few words and pressed enter, the the 1. dissapeared!    I conclude that my procedure for updating the EDD definitions was not the correct procedure. How do I link a phrase in one chapter of a book (e.g., "For more information, see the Providers section within Chapter 3 of this manual") to a particular section of a different chapter in the same book? Thank you.

I'm using FM10 (v10.0.2.419) on Windows 7 OS.When I print to postscript, the pink ribbon that used to show the progess does not display any longer, and the percentages indicator remains at 0%.Any ideas? My colleague right next to me is using the same SW and HW and does not have this problem.Thanks in advance for any ideas....

Hi,When I try to generate an output in webworks, I get these messages. I don't really know how this could've happened, the framemaker files were on a network which I saved to my computer. Then I added them to the webworks project. I had my fm docs open and when I was creating the output, this message came and had to close framemaker, so now I have recovery files of all my framemaker documents. Even when framemaker is closed, it opens and displays this message. In Webworks, I get the error saying error opening fm file, cannot create wif document for fm file. FM is crashing EVERY time it closes multiple files. I first noticed this issue when I tried to import formats across all of the files in a book. It would work for a less than 10 seconds and then it would die. My theory is that the crash occurs whenever FMis closing multiple files, and this makes sense (to me) because it seems as though FM opens and closes each document in a book when formats are imported across all the files in a book. I first noticed this crash after i had changed multiple parameters in an existing book to change the way pages were numbered across the book (management wanted to change from a "steady" numbering system from the first to the last page of the book to a relative numbering system where numbering begins anew with each chapter). I don't recall the specific change that I made when I first got this crash, but this crash has been consistent since that point. It plays out like this....1. I select all the files in a book and select File/Import/Formats. 2. I click

I'm struggling with a bookfile. When I update the book it skips a page from one document to the next. Doc1 = page 1-4, Doc2 starts with 6.I've looked into the numbering, master pages (left/right), etcetera but cannot get doc2 to start with 5. If I go to Numbering and make it start with page 5 the next document (Doc3) skips a page...What also happens when I do Edit - Update book is that it automatically generates extra blanc pages in a number of documents within the book. I did select all the files in the book and selected 'Pagination' and set them all to 'Delete Empty Pages'. I've also run through all the documents seperately and did the same. Nevertheless, the issue pops up every update.Any idea what can be wrong?

In 8 years, my FrameMaker "templates" for publishing display module datasheets have never remained static from one datasheet to the next. I always have changes that I need to carry forward to future publications -- ideas I glean from the technical support database; reviewer suggestions; different kinds of source information from our many suppliers; and from the constantly changing technology of the display industry.In other words, I don't really have templates. Instead, I reuse my most recent publication for whatever "family" of display modules I am working on. I use conditional text to hide information when I publish a new datasheet. A few examples of the hidden information are "here is the formula to calculate the spec" and "use this X information only under these Y circumstances and keep hidden if not needed" or "have an engineer measure each time, then add 10% -- do not use supplier spec". Hi.I have a document in which spellchecker doesn't seem to apply to text tagged with certain types of Paragraph tags. I can tell because if I intentionally misspell a word in one section, the word is underlined in red, but in another section with different para tags, the red underline doesn't appear, and spell check doesn't catch the words.

Good thing I was relatively awake! After extensive remodelling (or to put it another way, sorting the content into a more logical order and removing duplications) of an inherited document, I ran a Find to see whether there were any of my :question paragraphs left. Imagine my distress when FM reported more than a few … imagine my relief, mingled with mild irritation, when it turn out they were in a file I'd set to "excluded" but left in the book structure in case there any more discussions to get through before publication.I don't suppose there's an option anywhere to make Find a bit more focused? I seem to remember it also paints outside the lines when I use "search in book" and have a couple of files from another book open.N

Help!!  FrameMaker crashes when I attempt to open certain book files.  I am using FrameMaker Version 9.0 p255 on Windows XP pc.  Other details:This problem began mid April about 5 weeks ago.  Some book files are just fine while others crash the system. The internal error codes listed with each crash have overlap but are not identical (they all have at least 9004).  The last one stated: “Internal Error 9004, 5242025, 5220528, 6335542.  FrameMaker has detected a serious problem and must quit…”Attempting to open individual .fm files within the crashing book file does NOT cause a crash.Tried opening it through windows explorer and directly through Frame with the same result.  Failed fixes attempted per forums.adobe.com:  rebooting, renaming the linguistics library, deleting linguistic library in case it was corrupted (C:\Documents and Settings\jchen\Application Data\Adobe\Linguistics\Dictionaries\FMUserDictionary\all), changing book file name, replac

(FM10 on Win7)A test inset is on a master page. Settings include Automatic Update.With View > Body pages and with View > Master pages, the following command does not update the inset: Edit > Update References > Text Insets Marked for Automatic Update.So far, the only way I see to update the inset is to select it, Text inset Properties > Update.I must be missing something obvious. With the text frame?What do I need to do (or not do) so the inset updates through Edit > Update References > Text Insets Marked for Automatic Update?Bonus: What do I need to do to make that text inset update-able with Body Pages visible?

I've just upgraded from FM 9 to FM 11, and I'm getting some unexpected behavior. For example, when I set a manual page break for a heading, FM is creating and applying a new para style to my heading - e.g. with my "Title2" heading, if I use Special > Page break --> At Top of Next Available page, FM sometimes pushes the Title2 heading to the next page, and renames it to "Title21". On a similar note, I've got an FM file in which the main body text is para style "normal", but for some reason, now that I've opened it in FM11, a lot of the paragraphs have been set to "normal1", which is not a para style that existed before, FM has created it. Has anyone encountered this sort of behavior, or does anyone know hwo to fix it?Thanks,Jim

Hello,Is it possible to retain FM cross-references from structured to unstructured FM documents during an XML round trip?From what I know, cross-references between or inside structured documents form pairs of ID and IDREF, while cross-references to unstructured documents are dumped as normal text and lose their functionality.The unstructured target documents might be converted to Structured FM at some point, but for the time being I'd like to find another solution. Hi allI've been trying again and again to get alternate rows of my long table in Frame 11 to be shaded.I succeeded, then did something to remove them, and now I CANNOT get them to reapply.I am using the Table Designer, Shading tab.The Heading and Footing Shading works fine, it changes as I change colour or fill.But the Body Shading refuses to.Have set Body shading to Shade by Body RowsFirst : 1Fill 3%Color: Secondary BlueNext 1Fill: None    Colour WhiteWhen I apply, nothing seems to change. I have the whole table highlighted.The Custom Ruling and Shading dialog works fine but this is a long table and I don't want to go down that route. Though given the amount of time I've spent on this I probably could have done it twice over...Can anyone help please? It feels like a FM bug but it could just be something I'm doing wrong.ThanksLaura

Greetings,I was wondering if anyone knew how to increase the size of detached panels beyond what seems to be a default limit. Is there a .ini or .inf file somewhere that controls this? Or perhaps a hidden setting somewhere in Framemaker 9? I have noticed that after a reinstall and transition to a new PC (same OS and versions of FM, same monitor sizes and resolution, different PC), the panel resizing is smaller than what was, by about 1/2. The panel used to be able to be resized to about 1/3 the size of the monitor... now it's about 1/4. This happens with all detached panels, but the main focus is for the "Structure View" panel.Thanks in advance!
