I need to move my documents from unstructured FrameMaker to DITA docs. Could anyone explain me or point me a link about the step by step instructions to migrate from unstructured to DITA Docs? PS: I have framemaker 10 license. My preference is not to spend any or more money to do this migration. Expect Good response. Thanks,Naveen
HelloI'm having a problem. I have a table wich has a watermark. I created two more master pages with the watermark and applied to the pages containing the table. The problem comes when I add or remove some pages before this tables. The master page still applied to the same number page and the tables pages not. I tried to insert the watermark into an anchored frame positioned 'Outside column' but it overlaps the table content. How can I solve the problem?Thank you in advanceBest regards.Raúl
I have a large book (3000+ pages) which I have to save as multiple pdf files due to customer hardware constraints. Is there a way of doing this while retaining any links and cross references between the books? I am using FM9 on Windows 8. ThanksStu
I had a book file that was created in FrameMaker 10. I copied all of those files into a new folder. Then, I went into FrameMaker 11 and made some changes to my book. After I was done, I regenerated the index and it appeared fine. Looked exactly like the previous files as far as formatting goes. Then, I regenerated the TOC and it seems to have completely lost its formatting. I tried importing the formats from the previous TOC file, but nothing happened. Am I missing a step here?
Hello,I have a document that needs to have the page number increment only on every left page.i.e. first left page has page 1first right page has page 1second left page has page 2second right page has page 2third left page has page 3third right page has page 3etc.Is there a way to do this? Thanks,Robbie.
Hello,I'm generating a TOC for a book in FM 11.I'm using Heading1, Heading2, and Heading3. Headings 1 and 3 are brought in normally, but Heading2 is just showing up as blank rows in the TOC. Any ideas? Thanks.
HiI have Tech Comm Suite 4.0.I am creating a FrameMaker document where I want to add screenshots to supplement some of the steps. The intended audience comprises both who don't need the screenshots as they are familiar with the UI and those who cannot understand the procedure without those screenshots. I tried using the Drop Down Caption and Body features of RoboHelp menu (within FrameMaker). But when I generate the PDF, I don't get the interactivity. Is there a way I can make these screenshots optional? The final output will be PDF.ThanksSreekanth
I have seen this question answered in one of the dev guides but I cannot find it again. My question is whether it is legal within the read/write rules to refer various generic identifiers to the same FM tag/element.For instance:element "body" is fm element "Paragraph"; element "preface" is fm element "Paragraph";Thanks![moved to FM Structured forum]
For example, column 1 = 2 cm, column 2 = 3 cm.thanks,Mike
I need to create an Army Depot-Level maintenance manual using MIL-STD-2361 in structured FrameMaker. Does anyone know where I might find a template/EDD for this? If not, can anyone direct me to just the plain DTD? I will be creating XML and PDF files for output.Thank you!
We are using Framemaker 9.0 to generate a Company names Index as part of a large directory of manufacturers. I have set up master pages to automatically generate the first company name on left-hand pages and the last company name on right hand pages, which works fine. Some of the company names are very long so my question is, can I modify the variable to place just the first word of the company name in the running head each time rather than the entire company name? Are there other modifiers similar to '+,' (selects the last entry on a page) that would create the desired result? Thanks
We currently use RoboHelp9 and RoboSource Control, but we are moving to Structured FrameMaker (FM10) and want to use TFS for version control. If anyone out there is using this combination, how do you like it? Can you check in and check out easily? View recent changes, etc? Thanks!
.. or alternatively applying an object style to all frames. Is there any way to do this with a few clicks rather than editing every single frame? If not then I probably have to try scripting. In this case I need to change them all from "below current line" to inline style. Robert
Colleagues,I'm pulling my hair out a bit over issues with external cross-references in an unstructured>structured conversion. (FrameMaker 11, custom DTD).First, I've not found a way to automatically convert _external_ cross-references from marker-based to element-based. This is a historical issue, but I thought I would raise it in case any new solutions or approaches have appeared. If FrameMaker won't convert marker-based external cross-references, I would prefer to do this clean-up in XML. But...FrameMaker unwraps these (marker-based, unresolved) cross-reference elements on save to XML. (FM retains the _text_ of the cross-reference, but removes the cross-reference element). Is there any way to prevent this unwrapping? The presence of an empty cross-reference element is more important to me than the cross-reference text.-Alan
Hallo zusammen, wie kann man Ordner oder Gruppen in der EDD definieren? Gerade Attribute wären wichtig?Danke vorab
I inherited several functional specification documents. There really were no templates - just some styles which I've modified. There are five files in each "book."/document 1) Front 2) TOC 3) List of Tables (LOT) 4) List of Figures (LOF) 5) TextI need to update the TOC, LOT and LOF. I'm starting with the LOF which has grown from 10 to 26. I'm just using a basic Figure #: Title ... Page Number format in Arial 12 point which I essentially modified manually. There is a paragraph style for the title and for the line. That's it. When I "update" the LOF, I of course, only get the unformatted title and page number output. So, instead of reformatting the whole thing manually, I need to know if there is a way to update the original LOF or if I have to create a template of some kind, which forgive me, but I have no idea how to do that and then apply it to the automated output. Thank you.
I am running FrameMaker 11 on Windows XP. I am using a template with styles that display correctly on other coworkers' systems. However, the following styles do not display on my system:Bullet styles: Bullets do not appear for any bullet style.Note style: The style is set to a bold, all caps. Instead, the text appears in a normal font.I also copied the following files to my local drive:\\Program Files\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker11\Structure\xml\fswue: I copied fswue.dtd, FswueDOCS.fm, and fswuerules.txt\\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker11\Structure: I copied structapps.fm What can I do to make the template styles to display correctly?[discussion moved from General forum]
I just installed Frame 7.2 and Acrobat 7 (I also have Acro 6 and Frame 7.1 on the machine), but in that install I did not end up with an adobe printer instance so I cannot save to PDF. I've been all over the forum and web but cannot figure out where I would get this (and why it wasn't within the install). Any suggestions? Thanks....jen
Hi all,the scenario: file A has cross refs to file B ("see chapter xxx on page yyy") and vice versa. When I insert both files into file C via conrefs, then the cross refs do not update to show the propers chapter/page numbers when I update file C.How can I get this to work? These are structured FM documents using the DITA 1.1 structure.Robert
I need some pointers and guideance on how to setup autonumbering for tables and figures separately. As it is, the number sequence advances upon usage by a table or a figure. For example, Table 1, Figure 2, Figure 3, Table 4. What I need in that case is Table 1, Figure 1, Figure 2, Table 2.
Frame 11DITA 1.2I'm trying to create a DITA topic (as opposed to a task, reference, or concept) that contains task, reference, and concept elements. I have my template created but when I try to open a topic from the DITA menu, my new template is not being used. I have looked in the DITA Options and I don't see anything there that gives me any clue.Does anyone else have a clue? Thanks in advance.Marsha
Hello.I'm using conditional test in my document (in Body Pages) and I know how use it. Now, I'd like to insert a bar on the left of document with a text visible only in a particular condition, so I added a frame in the master page with the text and I tried to apply the condition. It's how the condition can't be applied to the text.I'm using Framemaker 10. It's possible to apply conditional text in the Master page? If no, there is a way to show different text in different situations? I can't copy and paste the frame in Body pages because I have many pages in the document and the number of pages change a lot in different situations.Thank you in advance for your answers.Best regards, Andrea
Is it possible to add preexisting text in structured FrameMaker. For instance, I am creating a template for instruction manuals in FM. Each manual will be edited appropriately by the writers, but the manual template contains certain paragraphs/sentences/blurbs that remain the same throughout every manual. Is this added in the structured view or does this have to be done in the 'What You See Is What You Get' view?Thank you!
I have a structured XML app and I am trying to export out OLE2 graphics that are embedded in FrameMaker. I am trying to use the VSD, SVG filter but I am getting the error I have listed below.I am using FrameMaker 11 structured. On windows 7. I get the following error"Cannot export the FrameMaker graphic element (Graphic) in the specified graphic format (VSD).Filter failed attempting to export a graphic as (VSD)."Here is my code in r/w rules:element "Graphic" { is fm graphic element "Graphic"; writer facet "DIB" export to file "$(docname).png" as "PNG "; writer anchored frame export to file "$(docname).png" as "PNG "; writer facet "ole2" export to file "$(docname).vsd" as "VSD";}The first writer rule is to grab dib formats and save as png, the second rule is to take framemaker drawing objects and save as png, and the last should grab the OLE2 format to vsd. This is not working. Any
I have asked a similar question here before but I am still having trouble figuring this out. My question is how do I define personal elements - that is, elements with a name I created (and by extension, the text format rules in the EDD, etc.) - in FrameMaker so that they are recognized by FM? Is this simply a matter of naming them in the DTD/EDD as they are, or are there other steps involved in the process? Thanks!
