I'm new to FMS and a bit confused on how I should set things up. Right now, I have a web server running IIS and a database server. I originally install FMS 3.5 on the web server and set the port 1935. However, many of my users have that port blocked so that's not the best option. Should I install it on the database server so I can set the port to 80? Also, does FMS work as a standalone server? For example could you have two servers - one with IIS and the other with FMS. When someone goes to the IIS web page can it pull in videos from the FMS server? I'm guessing it can but I haven't found any information about this so any help is greatly appreciated.
Is it possible to host my /media/ directory on a different server (that has more space) and have FMS Link to it to player VOD ?Thanks
Can anyone please help me to understand ho to make a powerpoint presentation tool in FMIS3 with AS3.0Thanks
I'm a bit confused and would GREATLY appreciate a little guidance. Thanks in advance!SO, on page 3 of his article "Working with metadata for live Flash video streaming" (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashmediaserver/articles/metadata_video_streaming_03.html) Jens Loeffler says the following...This code defines the function sendDataEvent on the server side, which utilizes the NetStream.send() function to inject the event, including the associated data synchronized with the current timecode of the video.Note: If you record the video on the server side (a functionality of FMIS), the injected events are also being triggered by the recorded file. Now, I've got both my own project and his sample project sending/receiving injected plain text data events via the whole "call('sendDataEvent',data) -> send('onDataEvent',data) -> onDataEvent(data)" relationship just as expected and explained in his article. The Note that Jens makes, however, I cannot seem to validate and, unfortunately,
Hello,I want to use the methods, gotoAndStop(), nextFrame() etc in a ".as" code.I am very new to this and i am getting an error : 1180 Call to an possibly undefined method when i use it in ".as" file.Someone please help me..Thanks
I have got some components from Adobe website. These components are for Flash Media Server 2.0 and also it was mentioned that we could use that in Flash 8.I use Flash Media Server 3.0 and Flash CS3, are there similar components available for the same? Thanks
Hi, how can do i authenticate the client using an LDAP server ?
Hi all, I wonder if anyone has experienced with Flash Media Interactive Servers on virtual environment (VMWare, etc)? We will only use the servers for Live streaming and VoDs, so far no plan for any complex applications to be deployed on the servers yet. As far as I understand, the bottleneck of streaming servers are with network connection rather than CPU or resources (servers are only support up to 4GB of RAM anyway). Is there any performance and concern issues I should aware of? Thank you,
Hello again. I run a FMS 3.5 Server and I want to add additional FMS Servers and load balance the traffic. The plan is to use a script for the developer version of FMS that forwards two incoming FME streams to the different servers, so each FMS Server has all streams. Is there a script for this? In addition there is a need for a script that somehow redirects the users to the server with the lowest users/bandwidth in use. Can somebody provide me with such a script or help me? Would appreciate it. Any other solutions would be welcome to get the same results.
Can anyone please tell me in layman terms, what does Multipoint Publishing mean?Thank You.
Hi,i'd want to allow SWF applications which reside on a specific site to connect to my FMS , and refuse connection to the other ones.I have read that it suffices to edit the vhost.xml file writing my site's domain in the <Allow> tag. I've tried to do so, just after having installed FMS, but the result is that i can't connect to FMS from my site, while if i write "all" in the <Allow> tag, it connects (from all domains). What am i missing? Is there a simple tutorial about this?
I have confirmed this behavior in FMS 3.0.2 on Windows 2003, Vista, and Linux. In prior versions of FMS if I had a publisher sending a live video feed to the server, then I could have subscribers connect to the server and set a bandwidth limit for them and the server would ensure that the subscribers only got as much bandwidth as I set for them. As of version 3, the server now ignores this limiting for live streams. You can set a limit on the publisher which of course then limits the live stream that subscribers view, but that is not what I want. I want to have the publisher push a live stream at the quality I specify and then I need a way to give some subscribers a lower bandwidth version of that stream. This all worked fine in prior versions of FMS and I can't imagine this is intended behavior in version 3, but it seems like a major oversight. The bug can be replicated by creating a simple flash app to stream live video to the server and then in a separate NetConnection, subscribe
Hi,I have Adobe Flash Media Server 3.01 installed on my server. I can record files via user's webcam and convert them to .flv with spesific compression sizes. But i want my users my users to upload an .avi, .mpeg / .mpg, .mov etc file via an http form and after upload finishes i want fms to convert file to flv.It can be done with the ffmpeg tool free but i wonder if interactive server has a feature like this. Thanks for all replies.
Hi allI am currently using Digital Rapids StreamZ to encode video for Flash media Server. The guys who look after the equipment have streamed to flash media server before using RTMP addresses without any problems but ustream doesn't seem to work.Would there be any reason why the encoded signal would not get through or display on ustream? The StreamZ software is not showing any problems or error messages so we are assuming the encoded feed is being sent correctly but Ustream doesn't detect that there is a flash media stream available for that channel.Any help would be much appreciated.ThanksTrevor
Hey all - I'm really new to flash server (as in hours), and I'm hoping there's a way to do this in server 3.5 without too much trouble...I'm looking to setup a tv channel type stream where I can create a server side playlist that can stream out prerecorded FLV's at specific times, so all clients are viewing the stream as if its a live video channel. Certain clips need to play at specific times, etc. It says in the server docs that "Flash Media Server allows you to create a mixture of live and recorded streams and play them in a preprogrammed sequence as one stream using server-side playlists"I can think of ways to implement this with some clever client scripting, but it seems the server has support for this. But I can't figure out how to do it, there's not much info in the Developer Guide about server side playlists. Maybe I'm missing something. It seems like a common feature people would want. Thanks for the help!-Mike
Hello,I want to stream live video content using FMSS. But however, i heard that for live streaming FMS uses VP6 codec. My clients dont have a very high bandwidth (around 256 kbps), with this codec I am not getting a good quality of video over Internet.I presume h.264 would give a better quality @ lower bandwidth. Can ayone help me out?I want to stream live video wherein client has a bandwidth @ around 256 kbps and the quality of video should be good. Thanks
I have my stuff set up and everything works fine except for a very strange glitch. When I use the internal IP address (192.168.###.###) from a machine on the internal network, it works fine. When I use the external IP address (209.###.###.### which eventually maps to that internal IP address) from a machine out in the world, like at home or a hotel or a clients site, it works fine. But, when I use the external IP address from a machine on the internal network, everything works except the flv file doesn't stream. The HTML page displays, the swf player displays, but the flv file doesn't stream; the swf player displays the message "Connection Error. Please press Play to try again."What could possibly make this happen? To me, it seems impossible. Could there be a setting in FMS that would cause this sort of thing? I very much doubt it is a firewall issue, because if it were, then the file wouldn't stream from outside the firewall.
We're trying to stream Flash 9 .F4V files without any success so we upgraded to FMS 3.5, from 3.0, thinking that would do the trick, but they won't stream. I see MP4 support on Adobe's site, but not a word about .F4V support. Any advice out there? Thanks.
I have a webserver with apache running on port 80 can i install Flash Media Player on this server without disrupting my exisitn apache installation and websites. How can i access it remotely if port 80 is in use by Apache. Please help im confused.
Hi, I have implemented an application for webcam broadcasting and receiving. I have tested the application using a developer version of flash media server. Thus its working finely. Also i am recording the stream and storing it in the application folder. The recording feature is implemented with the broadcaster. Every thing works finely while i checked locally. Now the client installed media server and I tried to set every thing in the server. I placed all the files in the server and created a directory with the name "live_test" in the applications folder inside the Flash Media Server folder. Then I run the application. Thus the status is showing asNetConnection.Connect.Failed. Does this problem due to my application. Hope anybody will help me.Regards, Sreelash
In order to play a FMS stream (live or on demand), either an FLVPlayback component or the Video class is needed. And they require ActionScript 3 and Flash 8 or above. As far as i know , Youtube, Dailymotion and Google Video stream their on demand videos from a FMS, and their players are compatible with Flash 7.How can they achieve this? If Youtube, Google and Dailymotion do that, i deduce it's possible..I tried to create a Flash 7 application that plays a video coming from FMS, using a MediaDisplay component, but it doesn't work well. Sometimes it shows the video, sometimes not.So i don't think youtube player uses MediaDisplay..
Hey everyone,I'm very new to FMS and I have been experimenting around with it as a part of my job. I already have the encoder, FMS, and my AIR application all talking, so that portion is going well. The problem that I want to tackle next though is to have the FMS server record the live stream to it's hard drive. All of the guides that I've found talk about how to make a DVR stream, but that's not what I want. I want to be able to have the live stream, and then separately I would like to have it recorded.Thank you all for your time- Patrick
Hello. My question is regarding the use of RTMP files (delivered via a Flash Media Server) and Papervision; specifically using an RTMP stream as a texture on a Papervision object. I've already developed a number of successful methods for applying progressive flv/f4v files to Papervision objects. The RTMP streams, however, have presented a number of obstacles.I will bypass the myriad of research I've done looking into this issue and say that others have inquired about this as well - but from what I can tell, no solid answer or solution has been found - especially under Flash Player 10.So, here's what we have so far:1. A Flash Media Server running on a University server.2. A Papervision projectFrom what I gather, the issue is about Bitmaps and the process of Drawing them. One solution mentioned adding the following lines:Client.videoSampleAccess="/"Client.audioSampleAccess = "/"*Now the issue here is WHERE to put this code. The only reference to these terms I've found is in Flash Media Se
Hi EveryoneI have a problem when rebooting the computer: Flash Media Server will not restart automatically after rebooting.During installation I've set the server to run as a daemon, yet it doesnt seem to start up automatically. It's a bit strange because I can actually connect to the admin console, and even 'restart' the server from there, yet when I try to stream content it will not connect. The only way I can start the server is through the command line. This is what I'm running:- Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 😎- Linux 2.6.9-89.0.3.ELsmp #1 SMP Sat Jun 13 07:05:54 EDT 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux- Flash Media Streaming Server 3.0.1 r123After rebooting, these are the processes that are running:root 5425 1 0 13:49 ? 00:00:00 ./fmsmaster -silentroot 5445 5425 0 13:49 ?
I am developing a video player for FMS 3.0 and my client complains that when he leaves the player running overnight or after computer goes to sleep when he comes back the elapsed time displayed as NaN and when he tries to play, nothing happens. Why is this happening? Does it mean that the connection with the FMS dropped and I have to reconnect? How can test for the dropped connection? Thanks.
