Here's my setup: Capturing machine: Acer 5570Z laptop with 1.6 GHz CPU, 2 GB RAM, Win XP SP3, FME 2.5.0.2086, Pinnacle USB capture device. Tested both with S/Video and antenna input. Media server: FMS 3.0.2 r217 for Linux, Intel Core 2, 2 GB RAM. FME CPU usage fluctuates between 25% and 50%. FMS CPU usage is less than 1%. I created a dumb flash page with Flash CS3 as per the instructions in this tutorial. What happens: everything works, except the delay between what I see in the browser and what I see in the FME panel slowly increases, from 2-3 seconds in the beginning to 15-20 seconds half an hour later. I see a slow increase of memory usage by the browser while that happens. This happens regardless of codec, resolution, bitrate, etc. I work for a major Brazilian TV broadcaster and we need this working for Web streaming of live shows. Any clues?
can any body help me how i can create chat rooms in my chat application thanks in advance
Hi, We are testing FMS3 using our own custom filesystem, and it seems that FMS behaves in a very inefficient way when it comes to reading data from the underlying FS. Whenever I stream a file to a VOD client, I see the following behavior: 1. stat the file 2. open 3. read 4. close This cycle repeats for every single read, which is done for every single client. Taking into account that the average FMS read size is about 256k, this is extremely inefficient and resource consuming. Can anyone please explain this behavior, or how I might change it? Thanks, Gilad
I am facing a strange behavior with the netstream events with an edge server / origin server configuration. When a publisher stops publishing live streams, the subscribers connected through the edge server are not receiving "NetStream.Play.UnpublishNotify" event. But if the clients connect directly to the origin server, the events are received correctly without any delay. While connecting to the edge servers, if the stream is published again after disconnecting, the clients somehow receives the "UnpublishNotify" event at that time followed by the publish event. I am seeing this issue only for the "UnpublishNotify" Event. The publish event is being sent correctly. This behavior is happening only when connecting to the edge servers. Is there any configuration to change this behavior? (We are using FMS 3)
Hello friends, I have read that streaming through FMS increase secuirity of the file.It is said that files streaming via rtmp cannot be downloaded.Pls find this link http://www.applian.com/replay-media-catcher/?AID=10464029&PID=1448936&SID=RMC this is the link to a software called replay catcher, which is used to download the rtmp protocol based files. I am bit confused wih it. Is there any way to secuirity using FMS? Why beco'z my company is thinking to use FMS instead of the progressive download beco'z of the secuirity. Pls help me to find me the correct solution.
Hello everyone, I am working on a player that will streaming all supported formats from FMS 3. For the most part .mov and .mp4 was easy (like flv but you need a prefix of like rtmp://111.111.111.111/av1/mp4:v1/test.mov (or /test.mp4) What I have not gotten to work has been 3GP, 3G2, or M4V yet - anyone done work in this area Thanks
I read an article at " http://www.kaourantin.net/2007/08/what-just-happened-to-video-on-web_20.html" which is a blog of an software engineer of Adobe, the author said in this article that "...There are functional limits with the FLV structure when streaming H.264 which we could not overcome without a redesign of the file format..." and "...Specifically dealing with sequence headers and enders is tricky with FLV streams...", does anybody know what exactly the author mean? what is the "functional limits"? how to "specifically dealing with sequence headers and enders"? is it a way to solve the "functional limits"? Thanks!
In the following function I am trying to send a message directly to a recipient (toWhom parameter = client.user.userName) as a private message, but cannot resolve how to do so...any suggestions/hints? I have tried several conditional loops, but am wholly unsuccessful... quote: Code VideoConference.prototype.deliverMessage = function(client, msg, toWhom) { var now = new Date(); this.startTime = now.getTime(); var str = now.getHours() + ":"; var mins = now.getMinutes(); str += (mins>=10) ? mins : "0"+mins if (toWhom == "everyone") { //Public this.history_s.send("appendMessage", " { " + client.ip +" } " + client.user.userName+" @ "+ str + " : " + msg); this.messages_so.send("showMessage", " { " + client.ip +" } " + client.user.userName+" @ "+ str + " : " + msg); return; } else if (toWhom != "everyone") { //Private this.messages_so.send("showMessage", " { " + client.ip +" } " + client.user.userName+" @ "+ str + " : " + msg); return; } }

All suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Hi, The Adobe site wasn't clear enough for me. I have 2 main questions: - The site wasn't clear about if Flash Media Interactive Server also is unlimited users/bandwidth. It states that Flash Media Streaming Server is. - What is so new in FMS 3 that you would want it over FMS2. I suppose future Flash players will still be able to connect to FMS2, not? There is some info on Adobe's site on FMS3, but I couldn't find a comparison between FMS2 and FMS3. Hoping for you help. Kind regards.
hello all, i'm trying hard to use the as3crypto library under fms3. as i'm an absolute newbee to flash/as/whatever, i do not know whether it is possible to do this in generel and if it is how to do it. can you please help me? greez, dialsc
Hey all, As I am totally new with flash media server, I have some questions. Are there some good how-to guides (not the manual, but really guides that explain step by step on how-to make an appliaction and make it work to)? Cuz I need to create an application, that can stream video on demand, and I have a hard time doing it,... 😞
I was told that certain TCP Acceleration solutions are capable of making streaming video via FMS3 better, ie clearer and more up to date pictures. Does anyone has any information on this? I have tried to contact Internap regarding if their solutions are able to assist me in this but I have not recieved their reply on this for over a week.
What if any difference does a live event with 500 (for example) connected users have on server performance vs 500 VOD connections? Also, given a server which meets or exceeds the Adobe recommendations for FMS3, (ram is doubled and processors are more powerful) what is the safe number of streaming connections?
I have FMS installed on Windows XP machine. I am recording using the server side Stream class. This creates a FLV but when I play it back it does not play though it has created the file under the dir in FMS. After a lot of research I figured out that the recording is done properly but I have to restart my FMS before the play back. After which the play back goes on smoothly. Can any one help me with this. I need to know if this is a known issue or else I have to do something on stream at the the server side after recording so that I can play it back immediately.
My company will be streaming a local event soon and I was wondering what equipment is needed/recommended to use. All I can come up with is a Camera, Laptop and Internet access? I'm sure theres something else. How do I get the stream to my server from a Downtown area? Will bandwidth be out of this world if it is High Def and lots of viewers? Looking for some some help in the right direction. Also, is it possible to have 2 cameras streaming?
Hello, In several months I will be setting up a live streaming audio event for our client. I have plenty o experience encoding and muxxing video and audio, but that ended 5 years ago, also we have a streaming server running vod vids and it is working great. We will be doing it all through Flash Media Encoder, but my questions are in regard to what we should use before we push it to the server, Do you guys have any suggestions for capture cards/ audio mixers? Also are there any tutorials for this online, I haven't been able to find anything of worth in regars to actually producing the event. Thanks
Hi all, I am trying to do a web cast by using FMIS 3, everything works fine except that all the client will hang (with the candy bar at the bottom flashing) after a certain time. Can anyone help me to figure out what is wrong with my application or is there a timeout setting that I need to tweak with? Thanks!
Flash media encoder 2 only encodes to the on2v6 video standard. Has anyone attempted live streaming of h.264? If so, what worked (or didn't)? Any lessons learned would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hello, I´m trying to use fmscheck to do a performance stress-test for FMS3. The idea is to generate many VOD connections and check the performance of the server. The problem is that when I execute the fmscheck with the --play switch on a .flv file, the connection is established and disconnected in less than a second, no matter how long the .flv file is. So if I launch 100 sessions of a video, I can see on the monitor tool 100 connects and 100 disconnects within a second. There are no errors on the log, I´ve check the .flv file with flvcheck and it passes. Here is the full command line: ./fmscheck --host 192.168.5.2 --app vod --play media/sample2.flv 0 all --timeout 3600 I will put this into a loop so I can emulate several connections.
When I do the install for FMS3, I get the following error message: NPTL 2.3.4 Starting Adobe Flash Media Server (please check /var/log/messages) Error: Flash Media Server needs the NSPR library installed. I have a pre-recorded, pre-encoded vid that I need to stream as if it were live--so that the video would start at 2:00 on a certain date and if a client began viewing the video at, say, 2:30, the video would start 30 minutes in. I can do this on the client side with AS in the SWF, but I was wondering if FMS 3 had a way to configure a stream to behave in this manner. Thank you.
Hi, When installing Flash Media Server 3 on Windows 2000 Server the following error is encountered: "The procedure entry point ConvertFiberToThread could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll" Any ideas how to solve this so we can test out Flash Media Server's functionality before deciding to purchase?
Hi folks, We, at Design is Dead, are preparing a pretty ambitious project where streaming video is a key feature. I already have little experience in video streaming with Red5 and video in general in flash but this time it's gotta be huge so it's necessary to scan the possibilities first. The two main points I need to know are: If there is a practical count limit to where Media server can handle live webcam feeds. How many feeds a flash player, on an average computer, can handle with ease. Thanks a lot in advance! Pieter
