Hi, I have flash working with flash media server to record a webcam. There are two things I also need the application to do which it currently doesn't. 1) How do you capture a still image from the webcam? At the moment im using this line of code to record: publish_ns.publish("allAboutMe + 1", "record"); 2) How do you show what is being recorded as you record?, at present it records with a blank screen and you cant see the results until you play it back. This is the code used at the moment. var my_nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection(); my_nc.connect("rtmp://localhost/allAboutMe"); var publish_ns:NetStream = new NetStream(my_nc); publish_ns.attachVideo(Camera.get()); publish_ns.attachAudio(Microphone.get()); publish_ns.publish("allAboutMe + 1", "record"); thanks Gavin
Hi There, I'm from Northeastern University and I'm researching ways our television station can broadcast online using flash. Currently, we are using a 3rd party to broadcast (brightcove.com), but we are looking to bring this back on campus. We stream anywhere from 3000 to 8000 streams per month to students and staff on and off campus. We are looking to either use an existing server on campus or build our own. Can you tell me if... Flash Server can run on a system that is shared with other users, or should the system be dedicated? Does Flash Server use multithreading for dual core systems. IE: specs on the site say dual 3.2ghz Xeon. Dell offers Dual Core Dual 3.0ghz Xeon. Would this suit our needs? How important is memory when streaming from this server? Is there a clean interface to upload/compress videos and place them on the server? Can the developers edition be installed on a desktop machine to be tested before using it on a server? Thank you, Our current website is www.nut
Last week I posted two questions, one on recovering from an interupted stream and the other on simulating an Edge Server . So far I have received no responses. It would appear from the lack of responses that I either ask really hard, or really stupid questions. Either way, I would really appreciate some sort of response. My boss wants answers to these questions by tomorrow morning. I have VERY limited experience with FMS, and it will take me a long time of playing around to answer questions that I know someone already knows the answer to, so please, can someone help me out here? (What's the emoticon for begging?) Thanks for your help.
Hi all, I have heard rumors of a bug in FMS 2.0 when streaming live video on a large scale. Can anyone elaborate on this? I have also heard there is an FMS 2.5 release that contains fixes but it is currently only available to CDNs. Is this true? Should I be concerned about deploying a large-scale live video app on FMS 2.0? Thanks, Barry
Hello all i'm almost done with a small control panel to make me able to host multi customers it was working fine with the old FMS 2 but when i got the final update 2.4 everything frozen event if creating my Vhost manually its not working. I'm using Flash Media Encoder locally and FMS2 on my server. Everything works perfectly as far as audio/video/chat. I would now like to begin recording the cam shows on the server, so that clients can later view the shows. I can find many many turorials on how to do this if you are using client side applications created in Flash, but nothing on how to do it if you are using the FME Beta. So I guess what I am asking is, are there resources for recording my stream from the server only? Or how can I go about capturing the video on the server for later playback by other clients? Basically I have a stream going to the server, I need to record it on the server, then later access that recorded file. Thanks, Bill
This forum is of great help. I have an application that works fine on a server. The live cam video is pretty correct .I have two questions. I would like to record the whole session and play it back.I am using a pre-built component. The only main.asc file is "load components" Can you please tell me what can be added to my application to perform a recording. And how can I play it back. I would very much appreciate a simple and clear explanation as I am not an expert. My second question is: in the applicationI am using ,there are shared objects. The trouble is that I cannot remove then .In other words all the chats display all that was written previously. Is there a simple way to clear thiese records at the beginning of every new session. Thanks very much indeed for your precious explanations.
Hi guys, I currently access fms2_console via remote desktop connection to the server. I have found that using fms2_console results in a lot of waitng on diffrent pages loading up etc. Is it possible to access fms2_console via my normal web browser? Thanks
hi all. is there any way to cache data on the client side from FMS Stream? thanks, gadi
Hi All, I am tryiong to install FMS 2 on FC5 When I do a ./installFMS I get the following error ./fmsini: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shar ed object file: No such file or directory Any pointers on how to resolve this issue would be really helpful. Can i transmit video flow from ip video camera or video server (for example axis) directly in to the Flash Media server?
Hi everyone, I want to send a video stream from C# to FMS(with network layer and all that stuff) is it possible? If not, can I send byte array to Flash9 with ExternalInterface, put this data into a NetStream object and publish to FMS? What I try to do is a screen capture(this part is working) and stream data with FMS capabilities. I don't want commercial solution like ScreenJax... If anybody has a clue(original idea are welcome to..) please post it... any help would be greatly appreciate!!
What I am trying to develop is a multiplayer game that is similar to sites such as pogo.com or yahoo games where it is multiplayer with separate rooms and each of those rooms shared information, but not between each other. It will of course also need database access. I have been developing in FMS but now I found the existence of Remoting and just wondering which would be a better solution for me and if anyone can, explain the clear difference between the two and an example of an application for each? edit: it may also be of importance to include that the platform I'm developing for has no java capability.
Hey Everyone - I have a FMS application I'm working on that, to debug, I've gone all the way back to the bare basics and have created a simple test FLA to see what's going on. I have one video object on the stage named "VLP" (in both the library and the instance name). I'm connecting to a working installation of Flash Media Server 2 located on a computer here in the office on the local area network. Using the Flash Media Server server administration console, I can see that the SWF, when I test it (cmd+enter) connects just fine, but the NetStream instance DOES NOT "go". Here's sample output when testing: NetConnection.onStatus called: (338 ms) description: Connection succeeded. code: NetConnection.Connect.Success level: status Now I have an almost identical trace setup for NetStream.onStatus, but I get nothing. Furthermore, using the Flash Debugger, it shows that the NetStream instance I have HAS NOTHING INSIDE IT. In other words, it's totally blank and empty, as if it were neve
Hi, I have problem with it. I'm very new in FMS2 and no background in FCS as well. I've tried to test my application through FMS2 by using NetConnection and NetStream script Here is my code var _nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection(); _nc.connect("rtmp://localhost/test"); _nc.onStatus = function(_info) { trace(info.code) }; var _ns:NetStream = new NetStream(_nc); _root.display.attachVideo(_ns); _ns.play("test.flv"); // _ns.play("test") App Dir folder:: C:/Program Files/Macromedia/Flash Media Server 2/applications/test/streams/test/test.flv C:/Program Files/Macromedia/Flash Media Server 2/applications/test/scripts/main.asc (Original main.asc) My swf and fla named "test.swf" and "test.fla" are anywhere on the same computer. I didn't edit any xml file in conf folder. All the files on FMS2 are original. However the output window show "undefined". How should I do? I should configure somethings more? I've used FLVPlayback and MediaDisplay component to link with "rtmp://localhost/tes
Hi guys, I am going over the helloVideo app in the O'Reilly book. I am having a bit of bother with user disconnecting from the app. application.onDisconnect is not triggering till the last user leaves the room. So the idPool doesn't get updated. I am looking over the book and i cant see anything i missed. NetConnection.Connect.Closed is returned after nc.close() is called. I presume i should be seeing the trace on the application.onDisconnect()and that the users_so should be updated triggering a change for every other user connected. Anyone? Thanks Paul
My company recently started using Flash Media Server to stream audio and video content. My boss just installed Windows Vista Ultimate and now no streaming content will play at all. Simple Flash animations work, but nothing that accesses the Flash Media Server for content. I've uninstalled and reinstalled multiple versions of the Flash Player on his machine but nothing seems to work. I also tried the new "Reset" feature in IE that is supposed to return it to it's shipping state and that didn't work. I navigated to the "System 32" folder and ran the Flash Updater EXE. I downloaded and installed all of the available updates through "Windows Update". I also tested Flash Objects that stream video on Adobe.com and they don't play either. Has anyone heard of this happening or know what I need to do to fix it? I don't know if this is a bug in the Flash Player or with Windows Vista.
Hi.. I've created a simple paint application using Director (and convereted into a Shockwave DCR) - what I want to do is allow other users to see this, if they're using the application also. I'm not used to flash, and do not want to redesign the program. Also, the Whiteboard feature with Flash Media Server seems crappy and slow. What's the handiest way for me to share a bitmap with other users using Flash Media Server? I really wish there was still support for the Multiuser Server. Thanks, Cormac
We need help to modify the chat component so that when a client sends a message it only goes to the moderator. The purpose is for a live video presentation where we are allowing the attendees to ask questions through the chat component. Like a Q&A session. We don't want the other attendees to see the questions - only the presenter/moderator. If we can allow the clients to see their own questions (in the chat log) that would be nice but not all that necessary.
Is it possible to easily create playlists for live streams, So the user can choose which stream they want to view?
In Real server multicasting doesn't really work the way it's intended unless everyone everywhere across the Internet is setup to multicast (all routers should support multicast). So each user shuld be provided with an unicast stream. Its very expensive. Does Flash Media Server allow multicast mode over Internet (not a private network)? If yes why is it possible?
Hi all, Sorry for this question, but I'm a bit confused. Is there a way to broadcast live flash video using just flash, or do I NEED Flash Media server. I don't really have the budget for it, and don't really know another option if Flash doesn't work. Thanks
I am having a FMS2 enabled site and application built and would like ideas on the best server setup/specs to run the site smoothly. I expect maximum users at any one time on the site at about 600 with about 400 concurrent FMS2 users. I will have 4 "rooms" with one way video and audio feeds (1 to many) and as many as 100, (1 to 1) connections. Although I am more familiar with xServe, I would prefer to use Linux servers if possible. I have 100 megs of local bandwidth for serving out the content. Am I better to go with fewer, more robust servers or more servers with less individual processing power? How much memory per server works best in your experience? Although Adobe's materials do dot suggest that load balancing is needed at my size, should I look into load balancing hardware anyway? All suggestions are most welcome.
Hi, I've been using Director for the good part of a decade, but due to a lack of confidence regarding future support, i've decided to convert to flash. I've been commissioned by the powers that be to investigate a content management system solution. Would FMS be the way to go, or should i be looking elsewhere? thanks in advance, j.
Hi Guys, Im trying to mute the my_FLVPlybk by default when the player starts. I can set the voulme to 0 alright but then the mute button doesnt restore it to 100 when I press it. I want the video muted and one single mute button available to un-mute it. Any ideas? Cheers
