Cannot install FMS server in Linux Fedora 4, I receive this message: Your distribution, unknow, is not supported by this Macromedia Flash Media Server installer. What can I do, who can help me?
Hi folks, We are a channel TV. We need to know which software should we use to encode our broadcast video. We have a Matrox RT100 video adapter. By now, we are encoding using Windows Media Encoder. But we want to use Flash Video encoding along Flash Media Server to broadcast our live channel. I have found Sorensen OnV6 encoder for process streaming video, but I think it doesn´t process live broadcasting video signal from my Matrox adapter. Does anyone know which software is available for this task? Thanks in advance. Ricardo Martins Brazil
is there any deploy sheet about distibution of live contents to cellular phones? thanx
I've spent most of the last couple of days crawling through the PDFs for client and server side AS, along with the technotes and samples, attempting to get a clear understanding of how to get SMIL XML based dynamic bandwidth streaming from FMS2. I've been able to code from scratch a nice NetStream based solution, but really want to use the dynamic bandwidth management and loose coupling of the SMIL based solution. Currently I've got the following setup: Windows 2003 Server IIS 6 serving a swf containg the following button which dynamically loads the smil file from the same directory as the swf: on( click ){ import mx.video.*; _root.vid_ctrl.contentPath = " http://localhost/flashVid/streams.xml"; trace( "contentPath: "+ _root.vid_ctrl.contentPath ); var listenerObject:Object = new Object(); listenerObject.metadataReceived = function(eventObject:Object):Void { _root.vid_ctrl.setSize(vid_ctrl.preferredWidth, vid_ctrl.preferredHeight); _root.vid_ctrl.seek(4); trace( "contentPath af
I was wondering what are the pros and cons of moving our text based broadcast service from Flash Remoting to Flash Media server. Right now we have the client flash file retrieve messages via the Flashservice Gateway installed by Coldfusion 7. As of this moment we do not see the need for audio or video interaction. Also it is a broadcast system so we send messages to our clients, the do not send messages back. A one way chat if you will. Of course cost is a factor, but outside of cost, how much of a benefit would it be? Or would it be overkill so to speak. Is the server load reduced or greater? Is it better for the client system? How is bandwidth affected? This topic has come up a few times... but I would like to ask the pros for thier suggestions. Thanks in advance for your comments. Johnny
Hi, I read that FMS2 support XML playlist format like SMIL. I be able to use smil file in a client-side way with FLVPlayBack but it's very limited (for example I don't be able to play one video after the end of another video) and I want to try a server side playlist. How can I do to use smil to create server-side playlist? Server-side playlist has the same limitations? Any suggestions, link or examples? Thank you Daniele
Hello, We are using the dev version of FMS and have run into a strnge condition. Our application streams multiple flvs in series to provide a training scenario. During the playback of the flvs the stream just stops and the server shows no connections. This happens right in the middle of the stream. The oddest part about this is that it will ALWAYS stop at 6 minutes and 33 seconds no matter what flvs are playing. Is there a time limit of playback in conjunction with the 10 client limit in the dev version of FMS? We are running Macromedia Flash Media Server 2.0.2 r5. Thanks, Brad
HI All We have a potential client who is looking at putting a number of courses available on-line (from traditional face to face teaching) THe online version would be a series of videos (flv) along with corresponding slides (jpgs) at cue points The flvs are encoded using on2vp2 codec @256k In order that say 10 web users can access the content at the same time, and with the same bandwidth of delivery (i.e 256k), what do i need (i.e my internet service provider or potentially the client themselves) to support this?? a) 256k * 10 = 2.56Mb bandwidth (pipe)?? b) flash media server?? c) dedicated server??? Any suggestions or help would be welcomed in solving this -C
Hello All Could anyone please tell me whether Flash player supports IP / Network based cameras ? I have been trying to configure but I couldn't find any other API other than Camera.get(). Is there any other way of configuring such cameras ? Does future release of Flash support IP based cameras? Please share your thoughts on this. Many thanks, -Sakthik
Hi! I am new to Flash and I am just finishing off my first website. This Flash site contains many separate SWF files each of which represent a new page (there are around 20 in all). I need to find a tutorial or instructions of how to publish this site to the web. I have the entire Studio 8 so maybe I need to use Dreamweaver? I would also like to know how to sort out a website name (domain name) for my site which I'd like to be something like www.thebrightside.com. PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN HELP I'D APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH. Thanks Liam
I have an mpeg card on the same machine as the Flash Media Server. Does anyone know of a way I can have the mpeg card's "Camera" object available without having to create a Broadcaster type swf? I'd like to serve it via the main.asc if I can. Any suggestions? Thank you, Clint
My partner and I are working on a FMS application since a month, and everything was fine. We tested the code juste before lunch, and when we went back... Tada!!! The server isn't working anymore... We tried install uninstall, the date trick (change the date for a future one), we emptied the registry, etc etc... It still doesn't work! Furthermore, there is no coding problem with the application because it works just fine on another computer. Is there anybode here to help ?
Hi, I am a hosting provider and have been using a product called Emulive to publish live streaming video for a couple of customers. I would like to move to using Flash Media Server 2. I have the developer edition installed on a Windows 2003 machine and a Linux RHES4 machine. I would like to use the Linux machine for the production environment. What I need is a custom flash player and upload system to interface with FMS to allow me to upload a stream with sound for website visitors. I like the YouTube player and would like options similar to those for playback, including full screen mode. Are there any pre-packaged products out there to do this sort of thing? If so, how much would it cost? If I get a custom programmed solution, what should I expect to pay and how long do you guys think it should take? Thanks in advance, David Szostek UV Hosting dave at uvhosting dot com
i have a question for long~~Does FCS use on2vp6 codec to publish flv in Flash8? Is it the default video codec for publishing flv in flash8? (I mean ,in camera capture and live publish-record process,NOT in the video import condition) Some one say "yes" to me ,but,if it is the default way, why i can successfully play the flv file (published by fcs in flash8) via flash player 7.0 (both of the video and the audio) so can anyone tell me why it happens like that and thanks A lot~ ps:i use flash pro 7 ide and "ctrl +enter" to play this flv file, also trace(getVersion()),it shows "WIN 7,0,14,0"
I've written a player application which happily streams from FMS2 using an FLVPlayer component. However, when the time comes to display a new video, and I set the contentPath property, the player changes state to "connectionError" and pretty much refuses to do anything after that. Dead. Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong or how to work around it?

I am new to Flash, Flash Media Server and so on, and I just don't understand some things. I need to create an application that will be broadcasting some videos as if they are from web cams. I need some way to syncronize all opened streams. What I am trying: fms/application/video_broadcast/main.asc: === load( "components.asc" ); application.onAppStart = function() { application.streampos = 0; setInterval(function() { application.streampos = (application.streampos + 10) % 10000; }, 10); } application.onConnect = function( newClient, username, password ) { trace( application.name + ":onConnect"); application.acceptConnection(newClient); var gstream = Stream.get("lost"); gstream.onStatus = function(info) { trace(application.name + ".gstream.onStatus: " + info.code + "; level = " + info.level); } gstream.play("lost",application.streampos,-1,newClient); } === But FMS says: Sending error message: /opt/macromedia/fms/applications/video_broadcast/main.asc: line 11: TypeError: gstream

I have been able to create a little flash based radio that would pick up music from flash media server. Now what i want to do is that create a small tab at the bottom of the screen that would be dedicated to this little radio. as far as i know i can do this with my flash pages without my radio restarting every time i click on a link and go to a different page but i have other pages such as aspx and regular html pages. Is there anyway i can still keep my radio at the bottom of the screen and not have it restart every time i go to a different page? I would really appreciate the help. i have been looking at different samples all over the net and all i see is a pop up window done through javascript but i really don't want a second window to be opened mostly because i want the useres to lose the radio as soon as they leave my website.
Hi everyone. Let's suppose I want to call the function "callTest" in "Test.asc" from "main.asc". How can I do it? I searched without finding answers. Thank you.
Hello, I am reading data through microphone, can any one tell me how i can save that audio. even i am trying flash communication for the same. But I dont have any proper help for the same. pls suggest any url, or code help . thnx..
Hello again, here is the situation, i have a web service which will be invoked by an external application. the call will be associated with a two string parameters. Now, when the web method is invoked, i want to connect to a specific instance on FMS (using param 1), and send (param 2) to all connected users of that instance. i had this idea of having a virtual client working on the same machine that holds the Web Service, and let it connect to FMS. but this won't work as there is no connection between the swf and the service, the same problem occurs, web service cant invoke a function in the swf. i thought about saving the parameters on files, and reading them from flash, but this is stupid! any ideas?
Greetings everyone. Yes, I'm one of those 1 post, 1 question newbies, but look forward to contributing more in the future. I've recently been tasked by my company to research our options for streaming Flash videos. I've got some experience with video conversion and web-hosting, but delivering Flash video is new to me. I've downloaded the FMS 2.0 app and found it less than intuitive. I've also been told that presenting a client with a simple FLV Player (including parameters that point to an FLV file) is a solid option. My initial thought has always been that for a production environment, you need to use the enterprise-class application. However, if similar results can be yielded with less effort, I'm always game. Without boring you with our business needs surrounding this project, would someone be able to help me understand the benefits, disadvantages, pitfalls...etc of choosing one method over the other. Thanks in advance...great forum! BrianR
Do any of you know what the future developments of flash may yield... specifically, do you know if it may be possible to record webcam, and do other things that would negate the need of flash media server. Also anyone have any ideas as to when flash 9 may be released?
