One problem with using gridify when placing extracted pages is the page sequence is wrong. For instance, a 20 page document is placed in the sequence 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 2, 20, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. The problem seems to be that Acrobat exports the pages as 1-20 when it needs to be 01-20, in other words there needs to be the same number of digits for each number in the sequence. I tried experimenting with the prefix options when exporting from Acrobat (Document > Split Document) but couldn't find anything that worked. As a workaround you could use a utility to rename the extracted pages sequentially before placing. (I made a workflow in Automator, which comes with Mac OS X).

Convert the photo to Grayscale (Image > Mode > Grayscale) then apply the Color Halftone filter (Filter > Pixelate > Color Halftone). In the Color Halftone dialogue box, change the Max. Radius to something large to get an obvious halftone effect. To get more control over the grayscale conversion, apply a Black & White adjustment layer before converting.

When moving a name, make sure you select the entire paragraph including the invisible paragraph symbol at the end (Type > Show Hidden Characters). Otherwise you may end up pasting text with one paragraph style into a paragraph with a different style and creating a style override (this will show in the Paragraph Styles pallet with a + sign next to the name). If a paragraph has overrides you can clear them by option (alt) clicking on the name of the style in the Paragraph Styles pallet.

for example: Every other name becomes 50% K and every third name becomes 30% K (?) I'm not sure I understand the sequence of colours as you've described it, but if you just want to cycle between three colours, such as: 100k 50k 30k 100k 50k 30k 100k etc. then you could set up a paragraph style for each colour. After all three styles are created, go back to edit each style and change the "Next Style" (in the General tab) to the next style in the sequence. To apply to the text: select all the text then right click on the 100k style in the Paragraph Styles pallet and choose "Apply "100k" then Next Style".

There seems to be two issues here (for me at least). 1. Illustrator will only colorize (with a process colour) the greyscale tiff if it is flattened in Photoshop (or, curiously, if it contains the original locked background layer together with other layers) 2. The Update Link button in Illustrator’s Links panel is greyed out. The only way to get the latest version of the file is to relink. (But maybe this is a separate problem.) Another way to get a perspective effect is to use one of the Warp effects. Select the object or group you want to transform, then in the Appearance panel select one of the Warp effects from the pop-up at the bottom of the panel. The trick is to make sure the warp itself is set to 0 but change the Vertical Distortion. One advantage of using this method is that the effect can be changed at any time by clicking on the effect in the Appearance panel. Also if you need to edit the contents then the effect can be temporarily disabled by toggling the visibility of the effect in the Appearance panel.

Try creating a new symbol of some random dots then use the Symbol Sprayer Tool. Fine tuning of the dots can be done with the other symbol-altering tools such as the Symbol Shifter Tool.
