Haven't sent with my email in a while since things seem to often go unanswered and I'm usually too busy for the back and forth. I try to provide what info I can when I do until I get frustrated.   You're correct. In the past workspace crashes are often the fault of a script or something—I've run into that while developing. However I have two workspaces, one named YDP and Default that I use. I used to use YDP but then I kept having shared projects switch my workspaces to default (I didn't know they finally added that new feature, I'll have to check it out). So I changed default to be the same as YDP. All of the same scripts, exactly the same layout.   When I open a project after previously having used Default in AE, it crashes (seems to be if the project was saved in my YDP space). If it happens to get past the switching workspaces part before it crashes, I can quit the crashed AE, and open up the file without issue. If I open AE cleanly, switch back to YDP, and then open the file, it opens.   I don't know that sending you a project would crash it for you since my suspicion is that you have to have both workspaces and try to open a project using the one that wasn't saved in the file. But if you'd like I'll crash it, and include my email this time. I'm sure you've probably seen the video I posted yesterday on Workbench at this point, so you can also see it happen there, although I wasn't extremely detailed in how it happens since I wasn't planning on screen recording it when it happened.   Thanks! ... About half of my older projects open, some hang around 99%. It's been doing this for me for a few versions. If Premiere is the root, I'll just uninstall it. I only ever use it to make templates for other people. Personally I use Resolve as it's a billion times better. That said, a quick fix that has always worked in AE is to import the project into a blank project vs opening it. It's a total PITA though, but it'll get you out of a bind.   Also, I'm on macOS, so this is a universal issue.   Edit: Deleted Premiere. Still does it. Updated to 25.3.2. Still does it. I would like, for just one time in my career, to not have to deal with some super annoying bug in After Effects.   Edit 2: As I was suspecting, it has to do with what workspace a project was saved in in some manner. I don't know why or what. I know that in the past if I had a script open while I was developing and then I moved it or something it would cause AE to crash on open if that script had been open. Well, it looks like something like that is still in there because as soon as I opened AE, switched to my older layout, and then closed AE and opened a file that was hanging on open, it opened fine without issue.   Please fix this. ... Anyone find a solution? I've been struggling with this and checking off an on for a few years now. I have one computer where it works and another where it doesn't and I can't find a difference between them. I'm admin. I have Gatekeeper permanently disabled. I've tried various port settings (including setting it to the error 5027 vs the default 5030). I get Lumetri errors using my own LUTs as well, and I'm just navigating to my own folder. I didn't load them into any Adobe folders. I also really wish there were a standard location or a way to go through my own as easily as I can go through the defaults so I don't have to go through an open dialog for every one. Yeah, if you transcode it in some fashion it should work. It was just nice to be able to bring the files in directly before. With this fix it's no different than using any other screen recording software out there (though free is good, haha). I still have no idea why variable frame rates—though unsupported—worked before but stopped. If you end up screen recording a lot, I recommend Screenflick. It uses way less resources to record so I get way less fan noise and since I'm recording in AE, AE gets more rendering power. You can also record a bunch of things and batch render them out if you want. It also supports pausing and a few other nice features. And if you like to have the natural sounds of clicks or typing in the background, these are dead on synced with what's going on, which Quicktime never did. Tthe OP and others like me have an issue with with using the keyboard shortcut. He just clarified that above your post. We're not using mouse-based zooms. We're using the cmd/ctrl +/- shortcut. Turning off animated zoom doesn't fix that—I have all GPU performance off in fact—which is why we're ignoring or "not understanding this part of the problem." And again, as noted previously, this is fixed in the beta build (I believe it's now a preference setting). So either go download that from the link that was posted earlier in this thread, or wait for the release version. ... View more

I have GPU performance completely turned off and it still zooms to selection. 😕 Also, for those wishing Adobe people would revert this change, they usually don't monitor these forums so you need to go here: Feature Request/Bug Report Form​ and tell them to fix it. I did actually end up switching to Screenflick. When I got the settings right it's been butter every time now. And it doesn't use as many resources so when I record After Effects tutorials, it doesn't slow my system down or get the fans going. Even with QT I had to always nudge everything about 15 frames but there seems to be no lag in my Screenflick recordings. I'd recommend giving it a shot. ... View more

That can lead to issues with timing still. I just switched to using Screenflick. It was too much of a pain to deal with and I needed to just move on. On the plus side, there's no discernible delay at all with Screenflick, so I don't have to shift audio 15 frames so that my clicks line up. Yeah, as I said before I didn't know that cmd+space command existed (or rather, I did at one point, but I never used it because cmd +/- is in everything), and there's a collision with Mac OS's Spotlight search feature. However, that doesn't activate if you hit both keys at the exact same time (cmd+space), it only does if you hit cmd then space (at least while in Illustrator). Even web browsers use that as a shortcut. But I mainly spend my time in After Effects, and that's its primary shortcut for zooming comp windows and timelines (and you can't easily change the keys from default in After Effects for some stupid reason). So it's kind of something I've done forever and it has a lot of utility in every application. So since it's just something that is used everywhere, I'll still end up hitting it out of habit anyway, and this is extremely disorienting. ... View more

Um, I play guitar too but it's unnecessary to reach this combo it's like 5 keys apart. Isn't there a right ctrl key on Windows? It's right under +/- (next to the 0 on the top number row). Are you trying to hit ctrl to the +/- on the numeric pad? Although I can still do that one-handed from command but I wouldn't. One difference is that the space bar is longer, so right Command is closer to where the right Windows key is. Also, I'm not a fan of animated zooms. I'd rather it just pop in instantly than waste time. I know where I'm going. I used Windows machines up until 2003, and I have to say, I prefer the positioning of alt vs ctrl. Hi, first, to answer your question, I'm right handed. My right hand rarely leaves the mouse, unless I"m typing or something. To use command +/- I usually use my left hand. I keep it my left hand near the command keys, but I float that hand all over. I'm a touch typist, so I have no issues using my left or right hands anywhere over the keyboard so I just keep it wherever is most comfortable at the time. I just kind of use whatever hand I find to be more convenient at the time. That other shortcut is nice, but it's also the command for Spotlight (which, admittedly I don't use frequently). Even if I leave Spotlight's shortcut active it still works, so that's not bad other than it popping up. I didn't know that shortcut existed until I read this thread last week. As far as scrolling? Yeah, scrolling zoom in Illustrator is junk with GPU disabled (especially with a Magic Mouse). And I have GPU disabled because the GPU rendering isn't as accurate as I'd like. I have a beastly enough computer. It's a hackintosh I built that's watercooled and overclocked and has a pretty decent GPU. It benched better than most of the newest Mac Pros. It's crap on my 2015 MBP too. I'm just not a fan of scrolling zoom. I just like to zoom in to specific increments, it fits my workflow better. It works faster for the way I work. Thanks. ... Those shortcuts have worked fine for me for over a decade. I don't leave my hand on one spot of the keyboard, and it's in my muscle-memory. "Horrible workflow" is pretty subjective. It's excellent to me, and nearly every program employs it at this point. I take it back, it was excellent to me until this stupid change. Now I have no alternatives. Scrolling with the mouse blows. I have GPU acceleration off because it can have horrible artifacts, so it's not smooth without it. And there's not adjustment for sensitivity. If I adjust it in my mouse prefs, scrolling everywhere else is too slow. So cmd +/- was great for me. ... View more

I use that combo all the time, and never remove my hand from the keyboard and mouse. You can use your left hand to move to the right side keys. It's not hard. But if it really bothers you, change it. Back on track: this change blows. There was no reason to change it, especially without a preference. There was a time that I thought this would make sense, but after dealing with it, I no longer find that to be the case. It's a pain when you're drawing a lot of shapes all over the place to have to remember to deselect before you zoom in/out. I'm not a fan of mouse scrolling with the magic mouse—adobe has never gotten the sensitivity correct in any of the apps. And I hate the zoom tool because I just have to reselect my tools. It'd be great if the preset system actually saved things in a usable fashion, or offered any insight into where things will show up when you actually save them in hidden away Library folder. Every Adobe program saves its presets in like 5 places and they're all different from each other. Here's a fun one, After Effects 2017 keeps trying to save animation presets in the 2015 directory, and it has tried that for two versions now.   I decided to start going around it. Yes, it's variable, no need to download anything to verify that. Here's the thing, it works fine in 2015.4 so at one point it actually was designed to do it. 2017 killed it. They've also apparently said they intend to fix it and everyone on the team I've talked to knows it's variable. So I don't know what to tell you but it doesn't seem like it's a use case they don't support. As for using something else, I rather hate all of the other options available. And QuickTime has the added bonus of being free. Every other package wants to ship with some crap editor and most don't even let you have easy access to the videos they record. Or they need to transcode as well so you end up with gigantic file sizes and longer waits. And the ones that do, also have issues in Premiere. I've tested quite a few of the screen capture softwares and they all have bigger drawbacks than using an old version of Premiere.
