InDesign 21.4 Bug: Unable to Move Multiple Selected Objects When Dragging Over Placed Images

In the latest update of InDesign when I have multiple shapes and frames on the page selected, if my cursor is above something like a rectangle with content/picture inside it, I only move the picture that is below it at the time.

Rather than the whole selection of objects as it used to. I tested before and after the update and it was something that only broke with 21.4. If I cursor over a solid shape object while still selecting the entire group (including the photo frame) that then moves the entire section but only if cursor above a placed fill object does it break.

What could possibly be happening?

Hi, we released InDesign version 21.4.1 today that includes a fix for this issues. Please check out: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/desktop/whats-new/release-notes.html

Please update InDesign and let us know how it goes.

If you do not see the update in the Creative Cloud Desktop App, check out: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/apps/manage-apps/creative-cloud-apps/update-creative-cloud-apps-manually.html

The issue was introduced in InDesign 21.4. Until it’s fixed, you can revert back to 21.3 as described earlier in this thread.

It’s great we’re getting features no one asked for while the fundamental stuff drops off the back of the truck. Money well spent.

Hi, thank you for your help. Yes I think so because I also encounter the same issue with blocks move.

This could be related to the bug discussed at

SInce last update 21.4 on mac, I can’t deselect an image object frame when using the shift click combination. I made a pref reset, closed indesign, but none of the previous actions solved this issue.

    Can you help ? thanks

    Mac os : 26.5.1
    Indesign : 21.4

    I’m having the same issue!

I had this issue since the latest update but I think the issue is mostly on the frame tool when filled with object (like image or used as clipping like in Adobe illustator)

But if you have empty frames, you can select them all and drag at once without using shift key.

If you’re dragging only frames (like images), the work around is to press the shift key.

If you’re selecting frame and text, try to put your cursor on top of text box and it will drag them all at once without using shift key.

As @StefanD2207 said, you can drag all object as long as you put your cursor on top of solid object (colour filled objects) or on top of text box.

For aligning issue, i just used solid object as my baseline

Seriously Adobe, you guys are really REALLY dropping the ball with these constant problems.
Forget about AI and get back to the basics. These kinds of bugs should NEVER happen.
