InDesign 21.4 Bug: Unable to Move Multiple Selected Objects When Dragging Over Placed Images

In the latest update of InDesign when I have multiple shapes and frames on the page selected, if my cursor is above something like a rectangle with content/picture inside it, I only move the picture that is below it at the time.

Rather than the whole selection of objects as it used to. I tested before and after the update and it was something that only broke with 21.4. If I cursor over a solid shape object while still selecting the entire group (including the photo frame) that then moves the entire section but only if cursor above a placed fill object does it break.

What could possibly be happening?

Hi, we released InDesign version 21.4.1 today that includes a fix for this issues. Please check out: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/desktop/whats-new/release-notes.html

Please update InDesign and let us know how it goes.

If you do not see the update in the Creative Cloud Desktop App, check out: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/apps/manage-apps/creative-cloud-apps/update-creative-cloud-apps-manually.html

    Thanks,

Another month, another update, another bug!!! another 3+ weeks without a fix.

Been using inDesign for 20 years, never had a problem, now there’s one every month; all because you’re trying to squeeze AI into everything. it’s terrible. why do i need generative image AI in inDesign!!! Am looking into alternatives and potentially cancelling my subscription.

I should also mention that it's not even possible to set the key object

Definitely super annoying. It works if i hold the shift key when starting to move them and release shift once they are moving together, but it disrupts workflow a lot.

Adobe please, give this a priority and fix it. InDesign with this bug is unusable for serious work!

Please fix this! This is unacceptable. Using the shift key while selecting doesn’t help either, so I have to manually click each element.

I don’t know if you read other replies here but you can revert to InDesign 21.3 until the problem is fixed: Creative Cloud app > InDesign > 3-dot menu > Other Versions

This is incredible annoying and makes the software almost unusable at usual speed. How are we still waiting on a fix 3 weeks later?! Creative Cloud is going downhill so rapidly.

We're experiencing the same issue. And it is also impossible to select a 'Key object’ (to align the selected objects to).

    Same here, it’s really annoying

Same for me + an additional bug I believe is related: if I select multiple image frames and say I have ‘align to page’ set in my alignment panel, usually I can single-click one of those images to make it a key object then use spacing or align the rest of the frames to that one - but now single-clicking one of the image frames deselects them all and just selects that single frame (and not even as a key object). I tested with a new file and it only happens to images or illustrator files placed within frames, normal solid colour boxes and text boxes are still working fine. And no i’m not accidentally clicking the image grabber in the middle. I’m also on InDesign 21.4 in MacOS 25.6.
