Question

Adobe Acrobat Reader could not open "file name" because either it is not a supported file type....."

After the Windows 10 update to v1903 (now 1909) the above error message occurrs whenever I try to use Microsoft Print to PDF to save Word, Excel or similar a file I've created as a PDF file.  Several clean installs of Adobe DC Reader haven't helped.

It may be a coincidence but Microsoft Print to PDF was working OK prior to the recent WIN10 update v1903.

I can still open PDF files that were created with Microsoft Print to PDF prior to WIN10 v1903.

I am currently getting around the problem by using Cute PDF which works fine. But I'd prefer to use Microsoft Print to PDF if possible. Linking to Adobe, Microsoft Print to PDF  gives a faster, more feature rich outcome. Basic solutions suggested by Microsoft Community Answers like "have you tried turing Microsoft Print to PDF off then on" haven't helped.

Any further tips on what I can try would be appreciated.

What can you see when you open the PDF file in Notepad?

Thank you Bernd Alhiit,

When I open the file using Notepad I get zilch, nothing but a blank Notepad screen. When I look in properties I see the file size shows as 0 kb.

A file with 0 bytes is not a PDF document.
