I use to have adobe 7.0 on my computer with no problems and then I loaded a new security-Norton 360 and now my adobe 7.0 does not work and it does not even let me uninstall, it either. I contacted norton and they looked into my computer via internet--but they did not find any problems with their progam. So they sugguested I contact adobe--but they don't contact me back.

So here is the error that comes up with when I try to uninstall the 7.0 or even trying installing 9.0 versions: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."
Under this it states: "Enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Adobe Reader 7.0 msi' in the box below."

    Please help--

    reply to #56.
Thank you for that suggestion, Gleb. Unfortunately, it didn't work; the install went to 98.98%, then the Epson Scanner page popped up, and the whole process stopped.

Tried it again an hour later, still didn't work.

I give up. I'm just gonna stick with Foxit.

You'd think that Adobe would be a little more helpful to its customers/users....

I had the exact same problem here, with the installer that downloaded via Adobe's standard processes. The installer simply disappeared after it got to 100% with no error or explanation.

I solved it with Paul Schuesler's suggestion, of using this file:

    ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.0/enu/AdbeRdr90_en_US_Std.exe

Just paste that address directly into your web browser, download and run. It was the AdbeRdr90_en_US.exe file in the same directory that seemed to be causing the problems.

Reply to Post #26. James, I have exactly the same problem. The install gets to 99.9%, then stops, my Epson Scanner window pops up, and the install fails. After a week of trying, I've about given up. A friend suggested that I try the reader available at foxitsoftware.com, so that is what I will do next. (I can't revert to an earlier version of Reader, as I have just reformatted my HD and lost the earlier version, thinking that I would just install an updated version when I got my computer back to work.)

Tried to install Version 9 a number of times from different page links or directly. It starts loading and then tells me it can't find drive "K" ..... I don't have a drive K, so why does it look for K? All other updates from MS or ZoneAlarm have no problems...

Disk Read Error....I updated to Adobe Reader 9 yesterday, the download and installation went well until the reboot. After the desk top shut down and started to boot I got the message of Disk Read Error occurred, press control alt delete........when I cntrl/alt/delete I get the HP screen offering F1 Setup or F10 Recovery, I chose recovery and it gives a choice to recover or restore, I chose to restore. The restore screen freezes and after 5 min or so the screen returns to Disk Read Error.....

I am new to computing and would appreciate any suggestion, comments, direction and solutions.........Thanks

    It sounds like either:

    a) your hard disk directory is damaged (less likely) or
    b) your hard disk is toast (more likely)

The installation of Reader is probably a red herring. Hopefully, you
have a backup of your data. I would try to use the disks that came with
your computer to erase the hard drive (zero it out if that is an option)
and re-install your operating system. If that doesn't work you will need
    a new drive.

In the case you do not have a backup, I'd recommend you look at the
various utilities that try to remove data from a bad hard drive. I don't
have enough experience with these utilities to make a recommendation.

I was having the same problem as many of you.
I would get to 99.99% and watch the installer close.

The following steps worked for me, YMMV.

Uninstall all previous versions of reader.
Open Regedit and search for "ADOBE".
Delete all keys that you find. I found at least three.

Grab the following file from Adobe's ftp site. AdbeRdr90_en_US_Std.exe This version is the standard, no AIR/ADOBE.COM installer. I don't know what the StdA or StdE versions are, nor do I particularly care. The Std one worked for me.

    ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.0/enu/AdbeRdr90_en_US_Std.exe

I would also suggest trying the above install without editing the registry incase the problem was the ADOBE AIR or ADOBE.COM install add-ons.

    Good luck!

DISCLAIMER! I make no warranty this will work for you! Follow these steps at your own peril and don't complain to me if your computer melts down or if you experience any of the following:
    chronic halitosis
    hair loss
    hair growth
    your dog runs away
    your significant other runs away
    IRS audits
    alien abduction
    meteor strikes to your barn
