I recently had success with downloading Adobe 9 by 1st eliminating all past versions of Adobe, with the Windows Cleanup Installer Utility. Some of the problems can be handled through Microsoft Support, rather than Adobe. This is in reference to Error 1714. Good luck!

thats a good question, isn't it? I'm having much frustration with trying to reinstall all my software to my new computer, which also runs on the fabulous windows vista, including my photoshop elements 3. I know this program would be considered old, but i would rather not spend a $100 when i could still use the version i own.. if anyone knows how to fix the windows vista-adobe problem, please help!

This is the sort of thing that happens: old software is not
necessarily compatible with new versions of Windows. This is
especially, but not only, true of drivers for things like scanners and
printers. Unfortunately, you can rarely get away with just upgrading
    one thing.

to all in Adobe user forum--
You all have my sympathy with Adobe file downloads.
Cant get ANY Adobe programs to download properly
to my PC (Reader, Flash, etc.). All Worked OK with Windows XP,
but now with the wonderful Vista, nothing from
Adobe downloads properly. In fact Reader infected my machine
so badly that I ad to call MicroSoft. After several toubleshooting
attempts, we just uninstalled Reader, which cleared up the infection.
Question: Are any Adobe products compatible with Vista?

I also cannot get the reader 9.0 to install, very simular to above. I tried to upgrade 8.1.2 to 9.0 When Secunia Software inspector told me that 8.1.2 was not secure. [I did see the post after the fact that Secunia is wrong.]

I first tried to do this upgrade from the "run" command from the Adobe download page. This did not work, after decompression, nothing happened.

    Next I downloaded the file "AdbeRdr90_en_US.exe" [34,302KB]
When running this file, it processes to 100%, and brings up a dialog box attempting to uninstall "APC Power Chute Personal edition" softrware, when I click cancel on this, nothing more happens with regard to upgrading Reader 8.1.2 to 9.0.

I also tried to install Reader 9.0 by uninstalling 8.1.2 first. No luck, the reader 9.0 install decompresses and dies, with nothing happening. To get a version of reader working again, I had to reinstall 8.1.2 and the security update.

I've run into some major problems trying to download Reader 9. First I went with the adobe Download manager, it kept killing IE7. I then went with Firefox, and downloaded the reader without the manager, ran and installed per the Nosso loader, 100%; then gave me a statement it placed on my desktop "cannot find or locate setup.exe" and the program ended. I thought maybe this was a glitch in firefox so I tried loading it via IE7 again without the manager, same thing happened, same message placed on my desktop. I've even tried the FTP loader, nothing; same statement.

    Here is what I get:

The system cannot find the file specified.

    File: setup.exe
    Info ID: 2.3175.10.2.20020
Please send the Info ID and file name to http://www.adobe.com/misc/bugreport.html

I've, sent it off to this address; don't know if I'll get a response or not.

I have the same problem as Ronald Schreiber and Yuvalp. Reader 9 download seemed to go fine. I uninstalled Reader 8.1.2. I turned off my Antivirus, clicked the downloaded .exe for Reader 9 and chose RUN. Things progressed to 99.90%, and the progress window just disappeared. No further installation action or error message.

I recently purchased adobe 8.1 and then cancelled the order as it didn't do what i thought it would. I then deleted it. Now I find some applications won't open. I tried to download Adobe 9 and i get an error message that parts of an older version of Adobe 9 cannot be removed. error 1714. I've tried the error message support and can't seem to find any solution. should I start from scratch, and delete all past versions?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks! Bam

    Hi all

I'm trying to install Adobe Reader 9 after downloading the file from Adobe.
I've uninstalled V8.1.2 completely, but when I try installing V9 I get a registry error stating unable to write to "ACROExch.FDFDoc\shell\Read\command"

    Anyone any ideas?

    Linda:

The 8.1.2 update cannot be uninstalled separately, but it will uninstall when you uninstall the basic 8.1.2 reader.

To the other posters: please do not "hijack" an existing thread with different problems; open a new thread instead.

Im trying to install Adobe Reader 9. I currently have Reader 8.1.2 installed.

I go to the Adobe site, click the Get Reader 9, and it downloads 34mb of stuff, then nothing happens...

I go to the site again, this time I save the AdbeRdr90_en_US.exe file on disk, and then execute it. Adobe Reader 9 Setup window comes up, which shows progress bar for Processing Adobe Reader 9.... Once it gets to 100%, it just disappears. Nothing happens. The actual install interface doesnt come up.

I have tried it a number of times always the same problem.

I then un-installed Reader 8.1.2. Then repeated the above. Same results.

Now I had to reinstall 8.1.2.

    Any idea whats going on?
