Question

iPad opening protected documents -shows Read-Only and can't be edited.

After having a look on this forum, I see many old (1+ years ago) posts suggesting there is a limitation of editing protected documents on the Acrobat Reader Mobile app, even with a pro license and the doucment being editable on the desktop app.

Is this still the case?

Thanks

Hi there,

Hope you're doing well, and thank you for reaching out.

The app is working as expected in this situation. If a PDF file has a permission password set by the owner, it means they have restricted editing. This restriction applies to both mobile devices and the desktop app. To edit the file, the user must obtain the permission password from the PDF owner. Without this password, editing is not possible.

Hope this information will help.

Thanks for your response.

Sorry about my wording, not only do I mean editing, but also 'Comment markup and annotate' - this is blocked on the mobile app, but not the desktop app.

Is this a limitation?

Hi there

We are sorry to hear that and for the late reply.

This shouldn't be the case, as the 'Comment markup and annotate' is possible via the Acrobat Reader Mobile app.

Is this an issue with a specific PDF file? If yes, please try with a different PDF file and check. If the issue still continues, please share a small video recording of the steps you are taking and the issue as it occurs for more clarity. Also, share the sample PDF file so we can check it our end.

Please try updating the Acrobat Reader mobile app to the latest version from the App/Play Store and rebooting the device once.
