Unable to fill in a PDF on the paid version of Adobe Acrobat Reader: Sign PDF

Unable to utilize the paid version of Adobe Acrobat Reader: Sign PDF to complete a USCIS form. This makes no sense why it is telling me “This form requires Adobe Acrobat Reader DC for Mac or Windows.”

So essentially my “$69.99” annual subscription is not enough, Adobe wanted me to pay another “$19.99/month” for a subscription on my computer as well.

This program is a rip off and shame on greedy Adobe. I just need to complete a form. So upset with corporate greed nowadays.

@CWGruver First of all, Acrobat Reader is free. You don’t need to pay for that at all! But, the free version of Reader does NOT allow you to sign a PDF. You need to pay for that which is either Standard, Pro (DC), or Studio

What exactly did you pay for $69.99 annually? For what? I don’t see a plan for that rate not that cheap.

Two, because you are posting this on Acrobat Reader Mobile forum, you essentially are buying Adobe through the App Store either Google, Apple or Microsoft. They have a different billings system than Adobe. Adobe would not have access to your billing accounts or accounts with them. They pay a certain percentage to Adobe.

Go to adobe.com, and log in (using th Adobe ID that you bought your $69.99 plan), see what exactly what plans you have. If I am not mistaken, if you purchase a subscription directly on a phone or tablet, it often defaults to the Acrobat Premium (Mobile) or Mobile-only plan. You may only get the mobile, web and tablet version and not the desktop. This is why it's always better to go to a desktop and get all 4 (Desktop, Mobile, Tablet, Web). Click on your avatar - manage account - Overview or plans and payment

If your plan says Acrobat Premium, you only have the mobile/web version

If your plan says Acrobat Pro, you have th desktop version, just download that your computer, and make sure you remove Reader from your mobile device too.

Yes, through the Apple Store they offer a premium IOS version of Adobe Acrobat, it is supposed to let you sign. They do not have a free version made by Adobe on the IOS, unless you can find that and provide a link.

So essentially you have to pay to even fill out a form on your iPhone. Yes you can download the desktop version, I’ve read it is free, but for Mac OS it kept telling me I needed the DC version for $19.99 a month.

@CWGruver That’s interesting because when I am looking at the iPad, I don’t see this actually Adobe Acrobat Premium app in the Apple App store. I can change the filter to be iPhone apps only, which I did, and the ones I see is only Adobe Acrobat Reader. On my iPad its the reader as I am using my work device. On my Google Pixel, same thing, I only see Adobe Acrobat Reader in the Google Play store, but, when I open the app, it does switches me over to Pro version (and that’s because I have CC subscription, and using my personal account).

So, if you bought the monthly or yearly plan, there are some consequences and nuances. Usually, you have the option to pay by the month or pay by the year. There is an Early Termination Fees especially if you cancel an annual plan early, which is typically a portion of the remaining contract balance.

Annual, billed monthly — looks great but it’s yearly plan
Annual, billed once — looks great but it’s yearly plan

    Purely a monthly plan

With your screenshot, it’s definitely a yearly plan as it says expires February 27, 2027.
Typically, it takes 10-14 business days, and if you cancelled it February 27, 2026,  that’s about 4 business days (depending on which time zone Adobe is using, likely PST).

The hiccup may be if you are a past user who have had a subscription and cancel it soon after. If they see you are doing this on a non-intentionally, but if they see a pattern, they may still charge you.

On iOS (iPhone or iPad): To cancel your subscription, follow the instructions outlined in the help article.
